Multidrug-resistance (MDR) has been increasingly reported in Gram-negative bacteria from the intestinal microbiota, environment and food-producing animals. Resistance plasmids able to harbor different transposable elements are capable to mobilize antimicrobial resistance genes and transfer to other bacterial hosts. Plasmids carrying blaCMY are frequently associated with MDR. The present study assessed the presence of plasmid-encoded ampC genes (blacmy, blamox, blafox, blalat, blaact, blamir, bladha, blamor) in commensal E. coli isolated from apparently healthy broiler chickens. Furthermore, we

(-)-Sesamin is a lignan present in sesam oil and a number of medicinal plants. It exerts various pharmacological effects, such as prevention of hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and carcinogenesis. Moreover, (-)-sesamin has chemopreventive and anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo. Multidrug resistance (MDR) of tumors leads to fatal treatment outcome in many patients and novel drugs able to kill multidrug-resistant cells are urgently needed. P-glycoprotein (MDR1/ABCB1) is the best known ATP-binding cassette (ABC) drug transporter mediating MDR. ABCB5 is a close relative to ABCB1, which also med

Multidrug resistance (MDR) genes are abundant in Streptomyces genomes, and yet these bacteria are generally drug sensitive under routine laboratory conditions, indicating low or no expression of these genes. Drug-resistant mutations have been isolated that lie in regulatory genes adjacent to the MDR genes, suggesting that resistance arises by derepression. This study identified a divergently oriented pair consisting of a TetR-family regulator (ebrS) and a major facilitator-family MDR pump (ebrC) gene in Streptomyces lividans, which is widely conserved in Streptomyces species. BACKGROUND: Multidrug resistance (MDR) remains a significant challenge in cancer treatment, leading to poor clinical outcomes. Dysregulation of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters has been identified as a key contributor to MDR. Zinc finger proteins (ZNPs) are key regulators of transcription and have emerged as potential contributors to cancer drug resistance. Bridging the knowledge gap between ZNPs and MDR is essential to understand a source of heterogeneity in cancer treatment. This review sought to elucidate how different ZNPs modulate the transcriptional regulation of ABC genes, contri

Multidrug efflux (MDR) pumps remove a variety of compounds from the cell into the external environment. There are five different classes of MDR pumps in bacteria, and quite often a single bacterial species expresses multiple classes of pumps. Although under normal circumstances MDR pumps confer low-level intrinsic resistance to drugs, the presence of drugs and mutations in regulatory genes lead to high level expression of MDR pumps that can pose problems with therapeutic treatments. This review focuses on the resistance nodulation cell division (RND)-class of MDR pumps that assemble from three

BACKGROUND: Multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (MDR-KP) poses a significant global health threat, associated with high morbidity and mortality rates among hospitalized patients. The interaction between MDR-KP and its host is highly complex, and few studies have investigated these interactions from both the pathogen and host perspectives. Here, we explored these interactions in a mouse model of pneumonia using dual RNA-seq analysis.
METHODS: PCR identification and antimicrobial susceptibility test were employed to screen for MDR-KP strains. A mouse model of pneumonia was established thr
