[Aspect of brain MRI in mitochondrial respiratory chain deficiency. A diagnostic algorithm of the most common mitochondrial genetic mutations].

Mitochondrial diseases are due to deficiency of the respiratory chain and are characterized by a broad clinical and genetic heterogeneity that makes diagnosis difficult. Some clinical presentations are highly suggestive of given gene mutations, allowing rapid genetic diagnosis. However, owing to the wide pattern of symptoms in mitochondrial disorders and the constantly growing number of disease genes, their genetic diagnosis is frequently difficult and genotype/phenotype correlations remain elusive. For this reason, brain MRI appears as a useful tool for genotype/phenotype correlations. Here,

Optimizing Global Network Alignment With a Genetic Algorithm: Leveraging Pre-Trained Embeddings for Protein Sequences and Gene Ontology Terms.

Multiple objectives have emerged in tuning protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks, such as identifying cross-species network similarities and predicting protein complexes and functions. Despite the proliferation of tuning methodologies, challenges remain in balancing accuracy and efficiency. In this paper, we introduce GA2Vec, a novel approach for globally aligning multiple PPI networks using genetic algorithms in a many-to-many fashion. GA2Vec leverages vector embeddings of protein sequences from ProtBERT, ESM-2, and ProtT5-XL-UniRef50 to reconstruct weighted PPI networks, incorporating f

Multi-Adaptive Strategies-Based Higher-Order Quantum Genetic Algorithm for Agile Remote Sensing Satellite Scheduling Problem.

The agile remote sensing satellite scheduling problem (ARSSSP) for large-scale tasks needs to simultaneously address the difficulties of complex constraints and a huge solution space. Taking inspiration from the quantum genetic algorithm (QGA), a multi-adaptive strategies-based higher-order quantum genetic algorithm (MAS-HOQGA) is proposed for solving the agile remote sensing satellites scheduling problem in this paper. In order to adapt to the requirements of engineering applications, this study combines the total task number and the total task priority as the optimization goal of the schedul

Genetic subtype classification using a simplified algorithm and mutational characteristics of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in a Japanese cohort.

Recent large-scale genetic studies have proposed a new genetic classification of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), which is clinically and biologically heterogeneous. However, the classification methods were complicated to be introduced into clinical practice. Here we retrospectively evaluated the mutational status and copy number changes of 144 genes in 177 Japanese patients with DLBCL, using targeted DNA sequencing. We developed a simplified algorithm for classifying four genetic subtypes-MYD88, NOTCH2, BCL2, and SGK1-by assessing alterations in 18 representative genes and BCL2 and BCL6

Multiobjective optimization design of spinal pedicle screws using neural networks and genetic algorithm: mathematical models and mechanical validation.

Short-segment instrumentation for spine fractures is threatened by relatively high failure rates. Failure of the spinal pedicle screws including breakage and loosening may jeopardize the fixation integrity and lead to treatment failure. Two important design objectives, bending strength and pullout strength, may conflict with each other and warrant a multiobjective optimization study. In the present study using the three-dimensional finite element (FE) analytical results based on an L25 orthogonal array, bending and pullout objective functions were developed by an artificial neural network (ANN

Automatic detection of the breast border and nipple position on digital mammograms using genetic algorithm for asymmetry approach to detection of microcalcifications.

The presence of microcalcifications in breast tissue is one of the most incident signs considered by radiologist for an early diagnosis of breast cancer, which is one of the most common forms of cancer among women. In this paper, the Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed for automatic look at commonly prone area the breast border and nipple position to discover the suspicious regions on digital mammograms based on asymmetries between left and right breast image. The basic idea of the asymmetry approach is to scan left and right images are subtracted to extract the suspicious region. The proposed

A genetic and clinical risk factor algorithm to aid in identifying new cases of chronic kidney disease from the general population.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to develop a genetic test to aid in diagnosing chronic kidney disease (CKD). One challenge in treating CKD is that 80%-90% of people with it are undiagnosed and thus do not access healthcare promptly. The problem arises because early-stage CKD has no overt symptoms, and the current policy is to perform diagnostic tests only when accompanied by risk factors such as old age, hypertension, and diabetes. METHODS: This study describes the development of the RICK (RIsk for Chronic Kidney disease) algorithm that employs a polygenic risk score for CKD plus clinic

Tissue-Specific Toxicokinetics of 6PPD Quinone Associated with Tyre Wear Particles Using a Genetic Algorithm-Calibrated PBTK Framework.

We evaluated multi-objective genetic algorithm (GA) calibration of a zebrafish physiologically based toxicokinetic model for 6PPD quinone (6PPDQ). Gill, liver and brain data from a 96-h study at 100µg/L nominal exposure informed calibration (1, 6 and 24h) and retrospective same-study temporal evaluation (48, 72 and 96h). Four parameter-bound cases revealed tissue-specific trade-offs. Compared with an uncalibrated quantitative structure-activity relationship reference, the Case 3 compromise reduced mean tissue natural-log mean squared error from 6.088 to 0.257 during calibration and from 6.568

Integrating Single-Sample Networks and Genetic Algorithm to Estimate Radiation Dose in Multiple Tissues of Mice under Space Environment.

Exposure to space radiation poses various health risks, so accurately estimating radiation dose in space is crucial. Herein, we integrated 301 transcriptomic profiles from 30 spaceflight datasets and developed radiation-dose estimation models for the space environment using a genetic algorithm. Two models were constructed in this work: one using gene expression fold changes as input (fold change model) and the other using gene degrees as input (degree model). Of note, we initially constructed a single sample network (SSN) for each spaceflight sample, respectively, and the degrees that represen

Genetic algorithm-based optimization of columella shape with FEM surrogate modeling: convergence analysis and application to ossicular chain reconstruction.

Ossicular chain reconstruction is a vital surgical approach for restoring hearing in patients with ossicular chain disruption. Despite advancements in prosthetic design, selecting optimal material and geometric configurations remains a challenge due to the complex, nonlinear dynamics of middle ear biomechanics. This study presents a hybrid optimization framework that integrates genetic algorithms (GA) with machine learning-trained finite element (FE) surrogate models to design middle ear columella prostheses with enhanced acoustic performance. Four tympanoplasty models (IIIc, IIIi-M, IVc, IVi-

Accelerating Prediction of Antiviral Peptides Using Genetic Algorithm-Based Weighted Multiperspective Descriptors with Self-Normalized Deep Networks.

The accurate prediction of antiviral peptides (AVPs) plays a crucial role in accelerating the development of peptide-based therapeutics. Despite extensive production of antiviral medications, viral diseases remain a major human health concern. AVPs have emerged as potential candidates for the development of novel antiviral drugs. However, the available traditional methods are labor-intensive, expensive, and cannot provide a deeper structural and contextual understanding of the peptide sequences. To address these problems, we propose a novel deep computational model, TargetAVP-DeepCaps, for the

Optimal sizing and placement of STATCOM, TCSC and UPFC using a novel hybrid genetic algorithm-improved particle swarm optimization.

The increase in global power demand has caused most of today's power networks to become overloaded especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. The increased load demand can be met through expansion of existing generation and transmission system. However, construction of new power infrastructure is limited by financing and technical constraints. Thus, power networks have been left to operate at overload conditions with high power losses and many power quality (PQ) problems. Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices can improve the power transfer capability of the existing transmission networks with

Evaluation of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system-genetic algorithm in the prediction and optimization of NOx emission in cement precalcining kiln.

The increasing demand for cement due to urbanization growth in Africa countries may result in an upsurge of pollutants associated with its production. One major air pollutant in cement production is nitrogen oxides (NOx) and reported to cause serious damage to human health and the ecosystem. The operation of a cement rotary kiln NOx emission was studied with plant data using the ASPEN Plus software. It is essential to understand the effects of calciner temperature, tertiary air pressure, fuel gas, raw feed material, and fan damper on NOx emissions from a precalcining kiln. In addition, the per

Identification of Novel Biomarkers for Response to Preoperative Chemoradiation in Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer with Genetic Algorithm-Based Gene Selection.

BACKGROUND: The conventional treatment for patients with locally advanced colorectal tumors is preoperative chemo-radiotherapy (PCRT) preceding surgery. This treatment strategy has some long-term side effects, and some patients do not respond to it. Therefore, an evaluation of biomarkers that may help predict patients' response to PCRT is essential. METHODS: We took advantage of genetic algorithm to search the space of possible combinations of features to choose subsets of genes that would yield convenient performance in differentiating PCRT responders from non-responders using a logistic reg

Highly sensitive Fourier-transform coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering spectroscopy via genetic algorithm pulse shaping.

We report highly sensitive Fourier-transform coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering spectroscopy enabled by genetic algorithm (GA) pulse shaping for adaptive dispersion compensation. We show that the non-resonant four-wave mixing signal from water can be used as a fitness indicator for successful GA training. This method allows GA adaptation to sample measurement conditions and offers significantly improved performance compared to training using second-harmonic generation from a nonlinear crystal in place of the sample. Results include a 3× improvement to peak signal-to-noise ratio for 2-propan
