The Social Ecology of Psychotherapy: Community-Level Influences on Adolescent Mental Health Treatment.

OBJECTIVE: Effective treatment for depression and anxiety in adolescence is a public health concern. Although psychotherapies for depression and anxiety exist, youth psychotherapies are less effective when delivered in community settings compared to research settings. A social-ecological model, which considers individual-, interpersonal-, and community-level influences on wellbeing, posits that understanding multi-level factors can help us understand this drop in treatment effectiveness. This study employs a socioecological model to examine the influence of neighborhood factors on depression a

Neighborhoods at risk: estimating risk of higher Neisseria gonorrhoeae incidence among women at the census tract level.

BACKGROUND: The association between area-based social factors and sexually transmitted diseases has been demonstrated in numerous studies. Such associations have not previously been explored for their potential to quantify likelihood of higher transmission of gonorrhea in small geographic areas. METHODS: Aggregate census tract-level sociodemographic factors in 4 domains (demographics, educational attainment, household income, and housing characteristics) were merged with female gonorrhea incidence data from 113 counties in 10 US states. Multivariate models were constructed, and a tract-level

Within-partner concordance of hypertension and overweight/obesity among sexual minority couples.

PURPOSE: The role of partners on an individual's cardiometabolic risk status in same-sex relationships is underexplored to date, despite significant health disparities impacting sexual minority individuals. This study investigated cardiometabolic risk concordance in same-sex older adult couples in the United States. METHODS: We conducted a pooled analysis of seven study waves of the University of Michigan Health and Retirement Survey (2006-2019) and estimated concordance of hypertension and overweight/obesity among same-sex couples. RESULTS: Among 81 same-sex couples, we observed high concor

Hypertension risk assessment in the largest ethnic groups in Jordan.

Hypertension is the most common cardiovascular disease. No data exists on the health status of the largest ethnic groups in Jordan. Seven hundred ninety two Chechens and Circassians participated in this study. Two readings of systolic and diastolic blood pressure were taken from the left arm with the subject seated and the arm at heart level, after at least 5 min of rest, using standardized mercury sphygmomanometer. The mean of the two readings were taken as the individual's blood pressure. The overall prevalence rate of hypertension was 23.9%. Risk factors for hypertension were: family histor

Multi-domain identification of myocardial infarction incidence using explainable AI: the overlooked role of periodontal health.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is a major global health concern influenced by diverse risk factors. Despite growing evidence of oral-systemic connections, current MI models largely exclude oral health indicators, reflecting the longstanding separation between dental and medical paradigms. This study introduces a multidomain, interpretable machine learning framework that integrates detailed periodontal and oral hygiene variables, marking one of the first efforts to quantitatively incorporate these features into MI incidence identification. A population-based case-control dataset comprising 1,355 in

Embracing challenging complexity: exploring handwashing behavior from a combined socioecological and intersectional perspective in Sierra Leone.

BACKGROUND: Handwashing with soap is a cost-effective, efficient health behavior to prevent various diseases. Despite its immense health benefits, the lowest prevalence of handwashing is found in low-income countries. Here, its practice is not only determined by individual behavior, but also heavily shaped by deprivations in the social and structural ecology. Moreover, handwashing barriers are not equally experienced as overlapping social identities (e.g., age and gender) intersect and create inequities between members of different social groups. To embrace the complexities of handwashing beyo

Synthesis and application of quaternary amine-functionalized core-shell-shell magnetic polymers for determination of metabolites of benzene, toluene and xylene in human urine samples and study of exposure assessment.

As production processes have evolved, airborne concentrations of benzene, toluene and xylene in many workplaces are already well below the occupational exposure limits. However, studies have shown that low levels of exposure to benzene, toluene and xylene can still cause health effects in people exposed occupationally. However, there is no literature on health risk assessment of internal exposure. In view of this, an analytical method based on quaternary amine-functionalized core-shell-shell magnetic polymers (QA-CSS-MPs) was developed for the determination of seven metabolites in urine by MSP

Competing Priorities: Partner-Specific Relationship Characteristics and Motives for Condom Use Among At-Risk Young Adults.

Condoms protect against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unintended pregnancy and are essential to sexual health efforts targeting young adults, who are disproportionately affected by both outcomes. Understanding condom use motives is critical to increasing condom use. Research in this area is limited, particularly regarding the roles of partners and relationship factors. Using a longitudinal sample of 441 young adults and 684 reported partnerships we examined associations between relationship factors and condom use motives (pregnancy prevention, di

Clinical Efficacy of Extracellular Vesicle Therapy in Periodontitis: Reduced Inflammation and Enhanced Regeneration.

Periodontitis, a prevalent inflammatory condition, affects the supporting structures of teeth, leading to significant oral health challenges. Traditional treatments have primarily focused on mechanical debridement, antimicrobial therapy, and surgery, which often fail to restore lost periodontal structures. Emerging as a novel approach in regenerative medicine, extracellular vesicle (EV) therapy, including exosomes, leverages nano-sized vesicles known for facilitating intercellular communication and modulating physiological and pathological processes. This study is a proof-of-concept type that
