Knowledge of the health personnel involved in the fluoride varnish therapy programs of primary schools in Tehran, Iran.

INTRODUCTION: The World Health Organization (WHO) places great importance on oral health promotion programs in schools, given that approximately one billion people worldwide are students. This demographic not only includes the students themselves, but also extends to school staff, their families, and the broader community, all of whom are interconnected. The objectives of this study were firstly to assess the knowledge of health personnel conducting fluoride varnish treatment (FVT) in schools, and secondly to solicit their views on the effectiveness of their training methods. METHODS: Data wa

'Hidden' anger as a risk factor for operational health: An exploratory approach among French military personnel.

Military personnel are repeatedly exposed to multiple stressors, and are sometimes characterized by high levels of anger. Evidence suggests that this anger can become dysfunctional, and impact the health status of populations chronically exposed to stress. In particular, rumination (understood as perseverative thoughts about a past event), provides a theoretical framework for investigating how anger may impact stress regulation abilities in military personnel declared fit for deployment. This exploratory study aimed therefore to examine the impact of the anger profile on psychological sufferin

Prevalence of Tinnitus and Association with Self-Rated Health among Military Personnel Injured on Combat Deployment.

INTRODUCTION: Tinnitus is an auditory problem frequently reported by military personnel and is currently responsible for 1 billion dollars annually in disability compensation. Recent military conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan saw high levels of combat exposure coupled with a surge in blast weaponry, both of which can adversely affect hearing. The present study explored the prevalence of tinnitus and the association with self-rated health among military personnel injured during combat deployment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 1,026 U.S. military personnel who sustained an injury during ope

Clinical and economic impact of various strategies for varicella immunity screening and vaccination of health care personnel.

BACKGROUND: Exposure to patients with varicella or herpes zoster causes considerable disruption to a health care facility's operations and has a significant health and economic impact. However, practices related to screening for immunity and immunization of health care personnel (HCP) for varicella vary widely. METHODS: A decision tree model was built to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of 8 different strategies of screening and vaccinating HCP for varicella. The outcomes are presented as probability of acquiring varicella, economic impact of varicella per employee per year, and cost to preven

Percutaneous exposure incidents of the health care personnel in a newly founded tertiary hospital: a prospective study.

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous exposure incidents (PEIs) and blood splashes on the skin of health care workers are a major concern, since they expose susceptible employees to the risk of infectious diseases. We undertook this study in order to estimate the overall incidence of such injuries in a newly founded tertiary hospital, and to evaluate possible changes in their incidence over time. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: We prospectively studied the PEIs and blood splashes on the skin of employees in a newly founded (October 2000) tertiary hospital in Athens, Greece, while a vaccination program aga

Prevalence of occupational asthma and immunologic sensitization to psyllium among health personnel in chronic care hospitals.

Psyllium is a high molecular weight laxative that can cause occupational asthma among health care workers who prepare this product for chronically ill patients. The prevalence of immunologic sensitization and occupational asthma to psyllium is unknown. We investigated the personnel of four chronic care hospitals, including two where four cases of occupational asthma had been confirmed the year preceding the trial. A questionnaire and skin prick tests with psyllium and various inhalants were administered to 193 of 248 (78%) of the workers who agreed to participate. Seventy-five subjects (39%) h

Investigating Digital Health Information Literacy Effects on Public Hospitals' Nursing Personnel Combating the COVID-19 Pandemic.

This study investigated the relationship between health information-seeking behavior (HISB), digital health literacy, and fear of COVID-19 among Greek nursing staff during the pandemic. Utilizing a cross-sectional design grounded in Wilson's Model of Information-Seeking Behavior, a structured questionnaire was administered to 120 licensed professionals at a regional general hospital. The primary objective was to examine how informational needs and literacy levels correlated with psychological responses, specifically the fear of the virus. Results indicated that nursing staff were highly motiva

Relationship satisfaction change among UK service personnel: Associations with socio-demographics, military factors, and mental health.

The unique demands of military life can adversely impact romantic relationships; however, research has mainly focused on these adverse outcomes at one-time point, overlooking changes over time or potential positive outcomes. Using a subsample of 3,845 male and female military personnel and veterans from a large UK dataset, this study examined positive and negative changes in relationship satisfaction between two-time points (2007-2009; 2014-2016). Most participants reported no change in their relationship satisfaction, suggesting stability - 8% reported a positive change and 10% a negative cha

Despite mandated primary series, health care personnel still hesitant about COVID-19 vaccine and immunizing children.

IMPORTANCE: Healthcare personnel (HCP) are important messengers for promoting vaccines, for both adults and children. Our investigation describes perceptions of fully vaccinated HCP about COVID-19 vaccine for themselves and primary series for their children. OBJECTIVE: To determine associations between sociodemographic, employment characteristics and perceptions of COVID-19 vaccines among HCP overall and the subset of HCP with children, who were all mandated to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, in a large US metropolitan region. DESIGN: Cross-sectional survey of fully vaccinated HCP from a large i

Mental health profiles of military personnel in mainland China 2000-2024: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Mental health serves as the cornerstone of sustaining military combat effectiveness and the invisible armor securing victory on the battlefield. However, the prevalence of mental health problems of military personnel in mainland China is still unclear, which hinders our understanding of the current situation and impedes the timely formulation and implementation of effective intervention policies. Thus, this study aimed to clarify the pooled prevalence of mental health problems of military personnel in mainland China from 2000 to 2024, as well as the influencing factors. A meta-analysis was emp

An evaluation of the relationships between financial hardship, mental health, and service use among US military personnel.

Financial hardship has been shown to adversely affect the mental health of military personnel. Previous non-military studies have found that the relationship between financial hardship and mental health may be bidirectional, but this has not been established among military personnel. Further, we are unaware of any military studies that have examined potential moderators of these relationships. Using two waves of data collected 12 months apart (n = 2655 US soldiers), we examined the bidirectional relationship between financial hardship and mental health (depression and suicide risk) using cross
