Emergency departments across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand provide care to nearly 11 million patients annually, yet only a small proportion of care is supported by high-quality evidence. Identifying unanswered research questions that matter most to patients, consumers, whanau, carers and clinicians is essential to reducing research waste and duplication and improving emergency care. The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, through its Clinical Trials Network, is undertaking a Priority Setting Partnership with the James Lind Alliance and supported by the College of Emergency Nursin

National oral health research strategies (NOHRSs) are increasingly recognized as critical mechanisms for aligning oral health research with public health needs, strengthening health systems, and advancing the World Health Organization's (WHO's) vision of "oral health for all." They are also pivotal for accelerating global progress toward Strategic Objective 6 of the WHO Global Oral Health Action Plan 2023-2030, which calls for the development of public health-oriented national research agendas. While global momentum for NOHRS development is growing, countries remain at markedly different stage

Burnout is, besides a global, complex phenomenon, a public health issue with negative consequences on personal, organizational, social, and economic levels. This paper outlines the co-design of a novel Nature-based Burnout Coaching intervention, called NABUCO. Due to the complexity of burnout, we propose a One Health approach in healthcare, educational and governmental pilot organizations, to deliver guidelines and protocols for prevention and recovery of burnout. We advocate the inclusion of the salutogenic and mutual healing capacity of nature connectedness, facilitating a positive impact on

Young people face a growing mental health crisis complicated by limited access to care. Youth-led participatory action research has the potential to improve youth mental health outcomes by engaging young people in developing sustainable solutions. Current youth-led participatory action research frameworks require ongoing youth engagement that can exclude marginalized young people. To address this gap, Born This Way Foundation and Hopelab implemented a multiphase, cluster-based approach to youth-engaged research offering varied opportunities for engagement of marginalized youth across three pha

Mentoring experiences and programmes are becoming increasingly recognised as important by those engaged in capacity strengthening in global health research. Using a primarily qualitative study design, we studied three experiences of mentorship and eight mentorship programmes for early career global health researchers based in high-income and low- and middle-income countries. For the latter, we drew upon programme materials, existing unpublished data and more formal mixed-method evaluations, supplemented by individual email questionnaire responses. Research team members wrote stories, and the t

INTRODUCTION: In France, care pathways in child mental health remain complex and difficult to navigate for families, despite political efforts to strengthen outpatient support. Often mobilized as “resources,” families are still rarely recognized as full partners in the care process.
OBJECTIVES AND METHOD: This collaborative action research, conducted in a CMPP (centre médico-psycho-pédagogique; center for medical, psychological, and educational care) located in a rural area, aimed to better understand the obstacles experienced by families and to co-constr

PROBLEM: The Rural Health Academic Network aims to build research capacity through partnering with rural health services. However, describing its work and achievements is difficult. This paper presents the development of an illustrative conceptual model (the model) to promote the Network within rural healthcare.
SETTING: The Network was introduced by a university department of rural health in 2006. Currently, research coordinators are embedded in four rural health services in northern Victoria, Australia.
MEASURES FOR IMPROVEMENT: The model development was informed by an established checklis

This report discusses the experience of a two-year family planning and maternal/child health project in Nepal. Although the project was planned as an experimental field research endeavor, a series of unanticipated events repeatedly compromised the internal validity of the project and forced design changes. While unexpected events are common in the history of most field projects, they present the research evaluator with the fundamental dilemma of trying to maintain a high degree of internal validity without sacrificing external validity. Rigid research designs with tight control over the introd

We describe the experience of the occupational health centre at the Sarnia Division of Dow Chemical Canada prior to, during and after a work stoppage of seven months duration. A descriptive analysis was performed of the occupational health case load during the work stoppage compared to the same period one year earlier. Total visits as well as those for dermatologic, upper respiratory, musculoskeletal and those associated with a non-occupationally related situation (e.g., sunburn) exceeded normal frequencies during the first ten weeks of the work stoppage. In particular, there was a peak number

BACKGROUND: Setting regional disease-specific health research priorities is essential for guiding the development of the local health system and even the society through research. However, existing priority-setting approaches either rely heavily on opinions and lack transparent and reproducible procedures or demand intensive technical resources and are time-consuming. This study aimed to develop a structured, disease-specific, regionally adaptable methodological framework to address these gaps.
METHODS: A multidisciplinary working group with expertise in public health and clinical research me

To return to farming following the onset of a disabling injury or health condition is predicated on a supportive environment for the farm owner-operator. The purpose of this study was to examine barriers and facilitators of returning to work after an injury or acquired disability, and to identify community supports (formal and informal) needed and available to farmers. This was a qualitative study using a participatory action research approach that involved a research team, an advisory group of seven stakeholder participants and semistructured interviews with farmers, their spouses, and servic

We examined the impact of legislation in Texas that dramatically cut and restricted participation in the state's family planning program in 2011 using surveys and interviews with leaders at organizations that received family planning funding. Overall, 25% of family planning clinics in Texas closed. In 2011, 71% of organizations widely offered long-acting reversible contraception; in 2012-2013, only 46% did so. Organizations served 54% fewer clients than they had in the previous period. Specialized family planning providers, which were the targets of the legislation, experienced the largest red

BACKGROUND: Limited health literacy in (expectant) parents is associated with adverse health outcomes. Maternity care providers often experience difficulties assessing (expectant) parents' level of health literacy. The aim was to develop, evaluate, and iteratively adapt a conversational tool that supports maternity care providers in estimating (expectant) parents' health literacy.
METHODS: In this participatory action research study, we developed a conversational tool for estimating the health literacy of (expectant) parents based on the Conversational Health Literacy Assessment Tool for gene

BACKGROUND: People experiencing homelessness often face obstacles accessing health and social care support. Challenges are further exacerbated when support provision for multiple unmet needs are not integrated or coordinated. To overcome these challenges, there has been growing attention on integrating and co-locating health and wellbeing services for people experiencing homelessness. In an urban area of North East England, a long-standing Hub or 'drop-in centre' offers a range of health and wellbeing support by bringing together the different health and care system agencies in one space. BACKGROUND: Aboriginal leaders in Western Australia's Kimberley region have voiced concern that research conducted on their lands is not being adequately used to inform meaningful change.
OBJECTIVE: This scoping review, grounded in an Aboriginal-academic partnership, identifies the child and adolescent health-related research conducted in the region and summarises the authors' recommendations for knowledge translation.
METHODS: Drawing on PRISMA-ScR guidelines, we conducted a comprehensive search of multiple databases for publications between January 1967 and June 2025, focusing on children

BACKGROUND: Achieving access to quality healthcare services to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages is one of the United Nation's Sustainable Developments Goals. In view of this goal, sustainable community healthcare services in Norway need to be urgently restructured in light of demographic changes, including an increase in the percentage of older adults in the country. National healthcare policies recommend finding new ways to organise and perform services using new technology, new methods and new solutions. The goal is to ensure greater continuity in the provision

BACKGROUND: There is consensus that services supporting people with complex emotional needs are part of a mental health care system in which change is needed. To date, service users' views and co-production initiatives have had little impact on the development of interventions and care. This needs to change, and our paper evidences the experiences and perspectives of a diverse range of people on how community services can best address the needs of people with complex emotional needs.
METHODS: A co-produced qualitative research study. Lived experience researchers led data collection and analys

OBJECTIVE: To review the evidence for a relationship between organisational culture and health care performance.
METHODS: Qualitative comprehensive review: all empirical studies exploring a relationship between organisational culture (broadly defined) and health care performance (broadly defined) were identified by a comprehensive search of the literature. Study methods and results were analysed qualitatively to provide a narrative review with integrative discussion.
RESULTS: Ten studies met the inclusion criteria. There was considerable variation in the design, study setting, quality of rep

Sensitive healthcare workforce research relies on credible assurances of confidentiality for participating staff and organizations. Yet, National Health Service (NHS) research governance processes can compromise these assurances even before recruitment begins, particularly through processes such as site documentation, local principal investigator (PI) requirements, research passports, and portfolio reporting. These risks are especially important for studies examining organizationally sensitive topics such as bullying, speaking up, or patient safety issues, where perceived employer awareness ma
