A 50-year-old man who was the victim of an accident during work was taken to the hospital. His chest radiograph and computed tomography (CT) scan showed pulmonary contusion, multiple rib fractures (left 5th to 1lth ribs), hemopneumothorax, and splenic rupture. UNLABELLED: Penetrating chest injuries are mainly caused by gunshot trauma and stab injuries. These lead to damage to the vital structures, which requires a multidisciplinary approach for management.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of an accidental gunshot injury (GSI) to the chest resulting in left-sided hemopneumothorax, left lung contusion, and D11 burst fracture with spinal cord injury. We report our experience in using pigtail tube drainage in the treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax compared with traditional chest tube thoracotomy. Tension pneumopericardium is a rare complication of gunshot wounds. A 28 year-old male patient with tension pneumopericardium after chest trauma by gunshot bullet injury was reported. On initial examination, hemopneumothorax and fracture of the clavicle were found on the right side. Blunt trauma patients are often evaluated with extended focused assessment with sonography for trauma (eFAST). eFAST is a noninvasive, rapid, ultrasound-guided assessment for hemoperitoneum, pericardial effusion, and hemopneumothorax. During a 3-year period (1986-1989), 8 patients were seen at St. Louis University Medical Center exhibiting the stigmata of traumatic asphyxia. Fewer than 200 cases of traumatic asphyxia have been reported and there is only a single report of a cardiac injury. These days we have fast paced traffic on our roads to help us keep up with our fast paced life. But every boon has a down side and our high velocity traffic is no exception. Here is a case report of a blunt abdominal injury following a road traffic accident. Externally the deceased had only a few grazed abrasions on the forehead and right forearm.
