The seroprevalence of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in 515 patients consecutively admitted to a state psychiatric hospital in New York City was 8.9%. There were 365 patients whose results were individually traceable; the remaining 150 patients were tested anonymously. Risk factors including parenteral drug abuse, male homosexual behaviors, and other sexual behaviors were studied in the traceable patients. Sexual abuse within the Catholic Church is a distressing concern. As part of the investigation conducted by the French Independent Commission on Sexual Abuse in the Church, we analysed available files of convicted sexual abusers between 1950 and 2020. We analysed the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of French clergymen sex offenders. Thirty-five clergymen were included. The aim of this study was to determine which human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) subtypes were circulating in Australia and to correlate the subtypes with risk factors associated with the acquisition of HIV-1 infection. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and HIV-1 env genes were amplified and subtyped using heteroduplex mobility analysis, with selected samples sequenced and phylogenetic analysis performed. The HIV-1 env subtypes were determined for 141 samples, of which 40 were from female patients and 101 were from male patients; 13 samples were from children.

The authors report six cases of acute urethritis and three cases of acute cervicitis caused in all instances by Neisseria meningitidis group B. The patients, five heterosexual men, one homosexual man, and three female prostitutes were seen at a venereal clinic in Mexico City. All of them were initially diagnosed as having gonorrhea. Treatment with procaine-penicillin G cured all cases, both clinically and bacteriologically. These experiences reinforce the need to distinguish N. meningitidis from N. gonorrhoeae in the setting of sexually transmitted diseases.

Gonococcal pharyngitis has been correlated with fellatio in both heterosexual females and homosexual males. This report describes another complication of fellatio, group A beta-eaemolytic streptococcal pyroderma on the penis after exposure to a male who probably had pharyngitis. the erythematous, purulent lesions should be cultured. After the organism has been identified, adequate treatment with either a long-acting parenteral penicillin or a 10-day course of oral penicillin is important in order to prevent the possible life-threatening complication of post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis.

As there is insufficient data available on the spread of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection by sexual transmission, the prevalence of anti-HCV was determined in several sexually promiscuous groups (78 female prostitutes, 55 clients of prostitutes and 146 homosexual men) who denied intravenous drug abuse. UNLABELLED: A characteristic rectocolonic endoscopic finding is the presence of ulcers, which may correspond to different diagnosis. Between January, 1989 and May, 1993, we performed 28 colonoscopies and 12 rectoscopies in patients with HIV (+).
