An alternative approach for the surgical correction of unilateral crossbite.

This case report aims to describe a modified surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion technique to treat an asymmetrical posterior crossbite with no mandibular shift without causing an interincisal diastema. A clinical patient with an asymmetrical crossbite, large tooth-size-arch length, and Bolton discrepancy is used to illustrate the modified technique. Instead of traditional osteotomies, in this technique, the osteotomy is done between the maxillary right canine and lateral incisor (connecting the piriform aperture to the alveolar process) along with a unilateral LeFort I osteotomy. The

Consecutive use of mini-implants in the palate to treat skeletal maxillary constriction and Class II malocclusion in an adult case.

This report describes the successful use of two multifunctional mini-implants that were inserted into the palate in the treatment of an 18-year-old woman in whom the maxilla was skeletally narrowed and the molars have migrated mesially on both sides. Three different appliances were used in sequence in the course of treatment: first, an appliance supported by bone and teeth (hybrid hyrax) for surgically-assisted rapid maxillary expansion (SARME); second, a distalization device supported by mini-implants to achieve molar distalization; and third, a transpalatal arch (TPA) stabilized by mini-impl

Allergic contact dermatitis associated with the use of facemask on a patient with a history of atopy.

Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a skin inflammation caused by an allergic reaction after contact with small external substances capable of being absorbed by the skin. There are several studies describing allergic reactions to intraoral orthodontic appliances, especially those containing nickel. Allergic reactions due to extraoral appliances are not as frequent, and there are relatively few studies about them. Extraoral eactions are attributed to metallic, elastic, or textile parts of the extraoral appliances. This article's purpose was to report the appearance of an allergic contact derma

Risk assessment of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in the West Bank, Palestine: a case control study.

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a vector-borne parasitic disease endemic in Palestine, especially in Jericho and Jenin, and remains a major public health concern. This study aimed to identify risk and protective factors for CL infection in the West Bank. METHODS: We conducted a case-control study across multiple districts of the West Bank between February 2024 and February 2025. The study included 96 patients diagnosed with CL (cases) and 96 matched controls from the same localities, matched by age and sex. Case data were retrieved from Ministry of Health records, while controls c

Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Due to Leishmania aethiopica.

Leishmania aethiopica is the main causative species for cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) in Ethiopia. Despite its considerable burden, L. aethiopica has been one of the most neglected Leishmania species. In this review, published evidence on L. aethiopica history, geography, vector, reservoir, epidemiology, parasitology, and immunology is discussed and knowledge gaps are outlined. L. aethiopica endemic regions are limited to the highland areas, although nationwide studies on CL prevalence are lacking. Phlebotomus pedifer and P. longipes are the sandfly vectors and hyraxes are considered to be the

The occurrence, diversity and blood feeding patterns of potential vectors of dengue and yellow fever in Kacheliba, West Pokot County, Kenya.

INTRODUCTION: Yellow fever (YF) and dengue (DEN) viruses are important re-emerging mosquito-borne viruses sharing similar vectors and reservoirs. The last documented YF outbreak in Kenya occurred in 1992-95. However, YF virus is re-emerging in bordering countries including Uganda, Ethiopia and South Sudan with the potential for spread to the neighboring regions in Kenya. Dengue is endemic in Kenya with outbreaks being detected in various towns in the north and the coast. This study reports on the Aedes (Stegomyia) mosquito species occurrence, diversity, and blood feeding patterns, as means of

Leishmaniasis in South West Africa/Namibia to date.

A total of 34 patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) have been diagnosed in South West Africa/Namibia since 1970. Visceral leishmaniasis has not occurred. So far a sandfly Phlebotomus rossi has emerged as a possible vector of the disease in man. Several aspects of vector incrimination and bionomics still need clarification. Further carefully planned and directed field studies are required in an attempt to identify the reservoir host for human CL.

Leishmaniasis in Kenya: description of leishmaniasis of a domestic goat from Transmara, Narok District, Kenya.

Extensive research has been carried out in Eastern Africa for animal reservoirs of both visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis. The domestic dog has been the only domestic animal so far implicated as a possible reservoir for visceral leishmaniasis. For cutaneous leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania aethiopica, the hyrax and the giant rat are the proven reservoirs of the disease while several species of rodents have been demonstrated to harbor L. major. Recent studies conducted in domestic animals in West Pokot led to the first isolation of leishmanial parasites from a domestic goat, a close associ
