A prospective study of 80 patients referred for hysterosalpingography (HSG). In 74 patients HSG was performed as part of an infertility investigation. Samples taken from the cervix were cultured for N. gonorrhoeae, Chl. trachomatis and M. hominis. Serum specimens were examined for antibodies against Chl. trachomatis and M. hominis. Two of our patients (2,5%) developed clinical signs of pelvic inflammatory disease following the procedure. Both had negative cultures for pathogenic microbes. The value of pre-HSG microbial culturing seemed negligible. Most patients had antibodies against Chl. trac

BACKGROUND: Despite advancements in medical technology, hysterosalpingography (HSG) remains one of the most commonly used diagnostic tools in the evaluation of infertile women. Filling defects are a common abnormal finding in this technique and can be attributed to both pathological causes, such as polyps and submucosal fibroids, or nonpathological factors, such as air bubbles and mucus plaques. In this study, we used imaging techniques including HSG and saline-infused sonography.
CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we discuss a rare normal variation in HSG of a 35-yr-old woman with primary infertility,

This matched comparative study investigates whether unoperated ovarian endometriomas (OMAs) influence the prevalence of tubal pathology as detected by hysterosalpingography (HSG) in infertile women. A total of 266 infertile women with unilateral or bilateral OMAs ≥ 2 cm and 539 matched controls without endometriomas were included between January 2021 and October 2024. Diagnosis of OMAs was confirmed by transvaginal ultrasonography and, if necessary, MRI, and all participants underwent standardized HSG assessment. Tubal pathologies were classified into nine distinct categories. The OMA group sh

Background: Laparoscopy is considered to be the gold standard in the evaluation of causes leading to infertility. Hysterosalpingography (HSG) permits indirect visualization of the cervical canal, uterine cavity, and tube patency, which is helpful for evaluating the causes of infertility. Objective: This study aimed to detect tubal abnormalities in infertile women by HSG or laparoscopy and determine the value of HSG in diagnosing fallopian tube status. Methods: The study group consisted of 1,276 patients. HSG was performed as a preliminary test for the evaluation of fallopian tube status. Women

INTRODUCTION: Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is routinely performed in the mid-follicular phase of a woman's menstrual cycle for cavity and tubal patency assessment as a part of the infertility screening. A pre-procedural pregnancy test is not routinely required unless the patient reports abnormal menstrual bleeding or irregular menstrual pattern.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: We present the case of a 29 year-old sub fertile woman who had a HSG performed on day 12 of her menstrual cycle. She developed abdominal pain shortly after and was diagnosed with a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, resulting in a right

RATIONALE: Hysterosalpingography (HSG), a standard procedure for the evaluation of women with infertility and repetitive pregnancy loss, is associated with complications such as uterine perforation, infection, allergic reactions, syncope, hemorrhage and shock, and pulmonary or retinal embolus. However, hyperthyroidism has not been reported as one of its complications.
PATIENT CONCERNS AND DIAGNOSES: We report the case of a 33-year-old euthyroid woman who presented to our hospital with palpitation, hand tremor, fatigue, and excessive sweating after HSG. Thyroid function tests revealed a thyroi

BACKGROUND: Tubal occlusion is one of the most frequent causes of infertility in women. The evaluation of the fallopian tube is necessary to determine the management plan for infertility. The two most important diagnostic procedures which are used for the evaluation of tubal patency are hysterosalpingography (HSG) and laparoscopy.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to compare HSG and laparoscopic findings in the diagnosis of tubal patency.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: In a prospective study sixty two infertile cases were examined by HSG as part of their routine infertility evaluation, three mont

The aetiological assessment of an infertile couple includes several complementary biological and morphological examinations. Initial exploration of the female genital tract requires the performance of pelvic ultrasound and hysterosalpingography. The value of systematic laparoscopy in infertility assessment is still subject to debate. The aim of the present review is to evaluate arguments against the systematic use of laparoscopy and to define the place of the other tests as Chlamydia Trachomatis serology, hysterosalpingosonography and MR-IRM. In our opinion, laparoscopy is of course indicated

UNLABELLED: Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is a radiographic examination of endocervical canals, uterine cavity and Fallopian tube with the use of a radiographic contrast medium [1]. This method is an integral part of gynaecological examination and its value has not been underestimated in the modern gynaecological practice.
GOAL OF THE STUDY: The goal of the study was to evaluate the reliability of HSG in the diagnosis of Fallopian tube and to compare the obtained results with laparoscopic findings.
METHODS: The study included 140 infertile women. HSG was performed in the first half of the cycl

INTRODUCTION: Hysterosalpingo-contrastsonography (HyCoSy) is a new method for assessing tubal patency using transvaginal ultrasound. It is thought to have several advantages over conventional hysterosalpingography (HSG). We prospectively evaluated the performance of HyCoSy and HSG in the diagnosis of tubal pathology.
METHODS AND PATIENTS: One-hundred consecutive subfertile women underwent both HyCoSy and HSG in randomised order. Results of both tests were related to findings at laparoscopy with dye, which was used as the reference test. Each woman was asked to score the pain exsperienced at b

The diagnostic accuracy of hysterosalpingography and laparoscopy was compared. One hundred fourty three infertile women were prospectively investigated in two years duration. Laparoscopic chromopertubation using methylen blue dye performed on days 8-16. Hysterosalpingography performed on days 7-10 with water soluble contrast medium. There was agreement between the results of both methods in 66.4 per cent /95/ of the patients. In 15 of the 63 patients with a normal hysterosalpingography, however, peritubal or tubal disease was observed at the time of laparoscopy/false-negative results, 10.4%/Ei

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: The authors attempted to determine whether videotaping the fluoroscopic portion of hysterosalpingography would result in changed diagnoses or an increase in diagnostic confidence.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ninety-nine consecutive outpatients underwent routine hysterosalpingography. The fluoroscopic portion of the examination was captured on videotape. Two consecutive interpretations of each hysterosalpingogram were made by attending radiologists. First, spot radiographs were interpreted alone. Second, these images were viewed along with videofluoroscopy. Concordance of

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to assess further the significance and accuracy of hysterosalpingography (HSG) by comparing the radiologic findings on HSG to selective hydrotubation (SHT) using a hysterofiberscope in 106 women with tubal occlusion.
RESULTS: Patency was successfully observed by SHT in 72 of 134 tubes and 62 of 106 patients. Proximal obstruction was divided into three groups according to the shape of cornual obstruction (sharp, dull, defect) on HSG. The success rate for SHT in unilateral obstruction (64%) were significantly higher than those in bilateral obstruction (3
