A study with a commercial vaccine against Lyme borreliosis in horses using two different vaccination schedules: Characterization of the humoral immune response.

A total of 143 horses were included in a study to test a commercial vaccine against Lyme borreliosis. The vaccine contained three different antigens (outer surface protein A, OspA) to prevent the infection with spirochetes - B.burgdorferi sensu stricto, B. afzelii and B. garinii. Horses in Group A (49 animals) received two vaccinations on days 0 and 14 and a booster on day 365, whereas 50 horses in Group B received an additional booster vaccination on day 180. Group C (44 animals) was not immunized. Total antibody levels and specific OspA antibody responses were assessed quantitatively and qua

Comparison of the reactogenicity of three different immunization schedules including diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, Haemophilus influenza b and polio vaccine in Turkey.

BACKGROUND: In Turkey, several changes have been made in the vaccination schedule. Vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and poliomyelitis were applied as DTwP and OPV until the end of 2006. Hib vaccine was added to the schedule and was administered as a separate injection in 2007 as DPT + OPV + Hib. DTaP-IPV/Hib combined vaccine replaced them in 2008. The aim of this study was to evaluate the alterations in the frequency of adverse reactions of these different schedules in the consecutive three years. METHODS: A total of 2401 infants who were vaccinated in Gazi University Well Chil

Safety and Non-Inferiority Evaluation of Two Immunization Schedules with an Inactivated SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine in Adults: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Several vaccines have been developed to control the COVID-19 pandemic. CoronaVac®, an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, has demonstrated safety and immunogenicity, preventing severe COVID-19 cases. We investigate the safety and non-inferiority of two immunization schedules of CoronaVac® in a non-inferiority trial in healthy adults. A total of 2302 healthy adults were enrolled at 8 centers in Chile and randomly assigned to two vaccination schedules, receiving two doses with either 14 or 28 days between each. The primary safety and efficacy endpoints were solicited adverse events (AEs) within 7 da

Effect of a booster dose of serogroup B meningococcal vaccine on antibody response to Neisseria meningitidis in mice vaccinated with different immunization schedules.

The generation and maintenance of memory antibody response by different primary immunization schedules with the Cuban-produced outer membrane protein based vaccine was investigated in a murine model. We analyzed the duration of the antibody response (IgG-ELISA and bactericidal titer) and the effect of a booster dose on the antibody response. The IgG avidity index was determined in an attempt to find a marker for memory development. This study also included an analysis of IgG subclasses induced by primary and booster immunization. The specificity of bactericidal antibodies was investigated usin

Schistosoma mansoni: influence of immunization and challenge schedules on the sites and mechanisms of resistance in CBA/Ca mice vaccinated with highly irradiated cercariae.

These studies address current controversies over the site(s) of challenge attrition in the murine irradiated vaccine model of immunity to Schistosoma mansoni. Two possibilities have been investigated. Firstly, that the site of death of the radiation-attenuated schistosomes used to vaccinate the mice may vary in different laboratories and secondly, that the skin sites selected for presentation of the immunizing and challenge parasites may influence the final site at which immunity is effected (i.e. ear/abdomen vs tail/tail). The migration of radiolabelled cercariae exposed to 0, 20 or 50 krad o

Assessing the mucosal intestinal and systemic humoral immunity of sequential schedules of inactivated poliovirus vaccine and bivalent oral poliovirus vaccine for essential immunization in Bangladesh: An open-label, randomized controlled trial.

In 2012, the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) recommended introduction of at least one inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) dose in essential immunization programs. We evaluated systemic humoral and intestinal mucosal immunity of a sequential IPV-bivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (bOPV) schedule compared with a co-administration IPV + bOPV schedule in an open-label, randomized, controlled, non-inferiority, inequality trial in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Healthy infants aged 6 weeks were randomized to either: (A) IPV and bOPV at 6 and bOPV at 10 and 14 weeks (IPV + bOPV-bOPV-bOP

Exploring the relationship between polio type 2 serum neutralizing antibodies and intestinal immunity using data from two randomized controlled trials of new bOPV-IPV immunization schedules.

BACKGROUND: Inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) is now the only source of routine type 2 protection. The relationship, if any, between vaccine-induced type 2 humoral and intestinal immunity is poorly understood. METHODS: Two clinical trials in five Latin American countries of mixed or sequential bOPV-IPV schedules in 1640 infants provided data on serum neutralizing antibodies (NAb) and intestinal immunity, assessed as viral shedding following oral mOPV2 challenge. Analyses with generalized additive and quantile regression models examined the relationships between prechallenge NAb titers and propo

Humoral and mucosal immunity in infants induced by three sequential inactivated poliovirus vaccine-live attenuated oral poliovirus vaccine immunization schedules. Baltimore Area Polio Vaccine Study Group.

The relative immunity induced by sequential administration of inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) produced in human diploid cells and live attenuated oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) was evaluated by randomization of 510 infants to receive IPV and OPV sequentially according to one of three experimental schedules, IPV only, or OPV only. The antibody response to two IPV doses was lower than expected. However, for each of the IPV-OPV sequential schedules, the first OPV dose significantly enhanced seroconversion rates and geometric mean microneutralization antibody titers. Regular Humoral and Cellular Immune Responses in Individuals with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Who Received a Full Vaccination Schedule against COVID-19.

Individuals with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) constitute a unique group within individuals with oncohematological disease (OHD). They receive treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) that present immunomodulatory properties, and they may eventually be candidates for treatment discontinuation under certain conditions despite the chronic nature of the disease. In addition, these individuals present a lower risk of infection than other immunocompromised patients. For this study, we recruited a cohort of 29 individuals with CML in deep molecular response who were on treatment with TKIs (

Systematic literature review comparing rapid 3-dose administration of the GSK tick-borne encephalitis vaccine with other primary immunization schedules.

Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), which is endemic across large regions of Europe and Asia, is most effectively prevented through vaccination. Three-dose primary TBE vaccination schedules are either rapid (0,7,21-days) or conventional (0,28-84-days, 9-12-months). The second dose can also be administered at 14 days for faster priming and sero-protection). Areas covered: We used a three-step selection process to identify 21 publications comparing the immunogenicity and/or safety of different schedules. Expert commentary: Priming with two or three TBE vaccine doses was highly immunogenic. After conv

Irregular tick-borne encephalitis vaccination schedules: the effect of a single catch-up vaccination with FSME-IMMUN. A prospective non-interventional study.

BACKGROUND: Intervals longer than recommended are frequently encountered between doses of tick borne encephalitis virus (TBE) vaccines in both residents of and travelers to endemic regions. In clinical practice the management of individuals with lapsed TBE vaccination schedules varies widely and has in common that the underlying immunological evidence is scarce. STUDY PURPOSE AND METHODS: The aim of this study was to generate data reliable enough to derive practical recommendations on how to continue vaccination with FSME-IMMUN in subjects with an irregular TBE vaccination history. Inhalable viromimetic polymer nanoparticle vaccine (iVPNVax) in a subcutaneous-prime/inhalation-boost vaccination schedule for eliciting durable mucosal and systemic immune protection.

Injectable vaccines seldom establish durable mucosal immunity in airways, permitting recurrent outbreaks of respiratory viruses. Although inhalation targets the respiratory mucosa directly, effective inhalable vaccines remain limited due to a size mismatch: pulmonary deposition favors micron-scale aerosols (∼1-5 μm), while mucosal penetration and antigen-presenting cell uptake require nanoscale carriers (<100 nm). In this study, we presented an inhalable viromimetic polymeric nanoparticle vaccine (iVPNVax) based on biocompatible PEG-b-PLA. Building on our previously established VPNVax platform
