[Comparison of preparation techniques with reference to final spermatozoa concentration and survival and fertilization rate in vitro in normal and pathologic ejaculates].

Various methods are available in the preparation of normal and pathological ejaculates within the framework of available techniques of assisted reproduction. The authors examined the recovery rate, the long-term motility and the fertilization rate in vitro after both normal and pathological test results, of preparations, using one of the three most commonly used techniques. Centrifugation with its resulting swim up (Z) is a method still widely used because of the good sperm recovery rate it produces. However, in our tests, it achieved the lowest level capacity, compared with sperm separation b

In vitro macrophage activation: A technique for screening anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and anticancer activity of phytomolecules.

Macrophage activation plays a significant role in homeostasis of organisms. Various internal and external stress factors may affect their function, leading to adverse effects on the body. ‘In vitro macrophage activation techniques provide us with a window to understand the mechanisms of inflammation and response of macrophages to the modulating interventions. Apart from infectious diseases, inflammation is also the major culprit in pathogenesis of many noncommunicable diseases such as arthritis, obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease etc. In vitro macrophage acti

A new technique to assess dermal absorption of volatile chemicals in vitro by thermal gravimetric analysis.

Potential health hazards of dermal exposure, variability in reported dermal absorption rates and potential losses from the skin by evaporation indicate a need for a simple, inexpensive and standardized procedure to measure dermal absorption and desorption of chemical substances. The aim of this study was to explore the possibility to measure dermal absorption and desorption of volatile chemicals using a new gravimetric technique, namely thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and trypsinated stratum corneum from pig. Changes in skin weight were readily detected before, during and after exposure to

Filter paper equilibration as a novel technique for in vitro studies of the composition of airway surface fluid.

We describe techniques which we developed to study the composition and regulation of airway surface fluid (ASF). ASF from isolated equine tracheal mucosa was absorbed onto or equilibrated with small strips of ashless filter paper after timed incubations in a water-saturated, 37 degrees C environment. After expression of the fluid from the paper, constant-volume aliquots of the samples were pipetted with a microvolumetric pipette on a filmed grid, together with standards containing known concentrations for Na, Cl, K, Ca, S, and P. Analysis of the microdroplets by dispersive X-ray microanalysis

Spiking mortality of turkey poults: 2. Effect of six different in vitro disinfection techniques on organ homogenates capable of reproducing SMT.

Spiking mortality of turkeys (SMT) is an infectious disease of 5-to-25-day-old turkey poults characterized by acute enteritis and bursal and thymic atrophy. It is reproducible by exposure to organ homogenates or contaminated litter. We studied methods potentially useful for decontamination of turkey houses contaminated with SMT. Organ homogenates capable of producing SMT and containing turkey intestinal coronavirus were exposed in vitro for 5 hr to either 5.0% NaCl, pH 2.0, pH 12, 1.0% formaldehyde, 57 C, or lyophilization. Results were assessed by oral gavage of treated inocula into 1-day-old

Effect of a modified scanning technique on the accuracy of complete-arch implant scanning: an in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: This in vitro study aimed to investigate the accuracy of a modified scanning technique that incorporated a simple scan aid (SSA) and a novel scanning pattern (segmented scanning pattern, SSP) for complete-arch implant scan. METHODS: An edentulous maxillary stone cast with 4 parallel analogs was used as the master model. 10 scans were performed with an intraoral scanner (Trios3) using different scanning methods: a conventional scanning pattern (CSP) without SSA (Group I), CSP with SSA (Group II), SSP with SSA (Group III) and conventional splinted open-tray impression (Group IV). The Implications of the Meiotic Spindle Visualization Technique on In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Outcome in a Perimenopausal Patient.

An infertile couple visited an in vitro fertilization center situated in Maharashtra, India, seeking treatment for primary infertility. The 39-year-old premenopausal woman had a history of two intrauterine inseminations and intracytoplasmic sperm injections (ICSI), along with a history of tuberculosis from six years, and a normal hormonal range. The male was normozoospermic. The patient was given a gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist treatment and triggered before 36 hours of ovum pickup (OPU), but the cycle failed. Due to normal blood parameters, it was decided to use an optimal microsc

Prediction of utilizable true protein of mixed rations for sheep using an in vitro incubation technique.

The objective of the present experiment was to study the relationship between in vitro utilizable true protein (uTP) and in vivo-uTP of sheep rations by regression analysis. A further aim was to analyse if in vivo-uTP of mixed rations could be predicted by regression analysis between in vitro-uTP and in vivo-uTP, using N-retention of sheep as important evaluation criteria of protein value. Three adult male sheep (body weight [BW] 46 + 1.3 kg) fitted with rumen cannulas and simple T-type duodenal cannulas were fed with twelve typical rations with graded levels of crude protein and true protein

Jejunal angiodysplasia confirmed by intravascular injection technique in vitro. Report of a case and review of the literature.

Angiodysplasia of the small intestine is a rare but important cause of gastrointestinal bleeding. We present a 64-year-old man with repeated melena in whom the diagnosis of multiple angiodysplasia of the jejunum was suggested by angiography. The affected segment of the small intestine, in which reddish patches were detected by intraoperative endoscopy, was removed. The combined technique of injecting a dye and a water-soluble contrast medium into the resected specimen revealed areas of dilated vessels, which were diagnosed histologically as angiodysplasia. This case suggests that angiodysplasi

Use of an in vitro technique to detect mutations induced by antineoplastic drugs in mouse germ cells.

Male mice were given graded doses of procarbazine or mechlorethamine in the presence or absence of prednisolone. Eight to 24 days later, these mice were mated with untreated females and the resulting zygotes were cultured in vitro from the two-cell stage to an early implantation stage. The frequency of successful embryonic development in these embryos was less than the frequency in embryos sired by untreated control animals. The reduced frequency reflects the induction of mutagenic lesions in the germinal epithelium by the drugs and their transmission by the spermatozoa to the oocyte.

Biomechanical in vitro evaluation of three stable internal fixation techniques used in sagittal osteotomy of the mandibular ramus: a study in sheep mandibles.

UNLABELLED: Among the osteotomies performed in orthognathic surgery, the sagittal osteotomy of the mandibular ramus (SOMR) is the most common, allowing a great range of movements and stable internal fixation (SIF), therefore eliminating the need of maxillomandibular block in the postoperative period. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the biomechanical resistance of three national systems used for SIF in SOMR in sheep mandibles. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study was performed in 30 sheep hemi-mandibles randomly divided into 3 experimental groups, each containing 10 hemi-mand
