Influence of information sources on hepatitis B screening behavior and relevant psychosocial factors among Asian immigrants.

This study examines how different information sources relate to Health Belief Model constructs, hepatitis B virus (HBV) knowledge, and HBV screening. The Maryland Asian American Liver Cancer Education Program administered a survey of 877 Asian immigrants. The most common sources of information identified by the multiple-answer questions were newspapers (39.8 %), physicians (39.3 %), friends (33.8 %), TV (31.7 %), and the Internet (29.5 %). Path analyses-controlling for age, sex, educational level, English proficiency, proportion of life in U.S., health insurance coverage, and family history of

Short video platforms as sources of information on simple renal cysts: a cross-sectional content analysis.

BACKGROUND: Simple renal cysts are common and usually asymptomatic. Nowadays, short videos on social media have become a major means for obtaining health information. However, there is still insufficient information to evaluate their quality. METHODS: In this study, 376 short videos on this topic (ie. simple renal cysts) were selected for a cross-sectional analysis using internationally recognized evaluation tools. The assessment covered content quality, reliability, understandability, and trustworthiness, combined with an analysis of user engagement metrics. The present study was conducted b

Exploring Knowledge and Sources of Information on Augmentative and Alternative Communication Among Board-Certified Behavior Analysts.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is often recommended to help autistic individuals develop needed skills, and as such, Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) should be prepared to assist minimally verbal individuals to learn how to communicate. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) can be a helpful tool to assist communication for these individuals. An explanatory sequential mixed-methods study, including a survey with Likert-type and open-answer questions and a semi-structured interview, was conducted to learn if BCBAs are receiving training on AAC systems and where they are obta

Examining the Effectiveness of Japanese Local and National Government Information Sources on COVID-19 Vaccine Uptake.

BACKGROUND: The effectiveness of different levels of government in generating compliance with public health initiatives during pandemics is not currently known. As public health is administered at both local and national levels, this study aimed to determine which government level is most effective in motivating the public so that resources can be efficiently allocated. METHODS: The usage rates and subsequent vaccine uptake of the Japanese national government's main COVID-19 vaccination website, "Vaccine Navi," were compared to Japanese local governments' websites and mailed paper flyers. Vaccines Attitudes, Concerns, and Information Sources Reported by Parents of Young Children among North Palestinian Parents.

Parental acceptance of routine childhood immunization is critical to protecting children's health, as high vaccination-coverage rates lead to decreased rates of vaccine-preventable diseases. However, to communicate effectively with parents about vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases, it is necessary to assess their vaccine-related attitudes and concerns continually. Recently the Palestine Ministry of Health has recorded epidemics of measles and mumps. Poor compliance with vaccination has been attributed to multiple factors including physician inadequacy advocating for vaccination and publi

Use of Information Sources on Vaccine-Preventable Diseases in Pregnant Women: An Experience in Ferrara, Italy.

The "vaccine hesitancy" and the consequent lowering of vaccination coverage have, on one hand, pushed the Italian government to reintroduce some new compulsory vaccinations for access to schools and, on the other, have imposed a greater effort on health operators to understand the causes and, consequently, to intervene with tools for promotion and health education. In Ferrara, we administered 201 non-self-filling questionnaires to 201 pregnant women within a cross-sectional multicenter study, consisting of 63 items divided into 7 sections. In particular, we wanted to investigate the correlatio

Sources of Information and Support for Breastfeeding: Alignment with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Strategies.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Research consistently supports health benefits of breastfeeding; however, rates in the United States remain below Healthy People 2020 goals. To increase breastfeeding, information and support are needed from multiple sources. Given differences in breastfeeding rates by demographic characteristics, sources of information and support may also differ. In addition, recent research suggests potential differences in health outcomes related to feeding method (direct breastfeeding only, feeding expressed human milk, combination-feeding with formula). This study examined (1)

Novel data sources for women's health research: mapping breast screening online information seeking through Google trends.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: Millions of people use online search engines everyday to find health-related information and voluntarily share their personal health status and behaviors in various Web sites. Thus, data from tracking of online information seeker's behavior offer potential opportunities for use in public health surveillance and research. Google Trends is a feature of Google which allows Internet users to graph the frequency of searches for a single term or phrase over time or by geographic region. We used Google Trends to describe patterns of information-seeking behavior in the subjec

Sexual behavior, knowledge and information sources of very young adolescents in four sub-Saharan African countries.

Adolescents are a key target group for HIV and pregnancy prevention efforts, yet very little is known about the youngest adolescents: those under age 15. New survey data from 12-14 year olds in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Malawi and Uganda are used to describe their sexual activity, knowledge about HIV, STIs and pregnancy prevention, and sources of sexual and reproductive health information, including sex education in schools. Results show that very young adolescents are already beginning to be sexually active and many believe their close friends are sexually active. They have high levels of awarenes

Preferences for sources of information about abnormal Pap tests and HPV in women tested for HPV.

BACKGROUND: Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is important because of its association with cervical cancer. There has been a recent upsurge of coverage in the media concerning HPV, but little research exists on women's preferences and opinions regarding sources of information and education on HPV and abnormal Pap tests. The purpose of this paper is to describe women's preferences and opinions about various sources/channels of information on abnormal Pap test results and HPV. METHODS: Forty-four in-depth, in-person interviews were conducted with low-income, high-risk HPV positive wo

Perceptions of AI-generated informational texts and effects of the source: An online experiment.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly common for health information seeking, yet many people are still skeptical of its performance. This between-subjects online experiment tested whether informing readers that a text was produced by AI influenced their ratings in 774 participants. They were randomly assigned to read one of six brief texts and rated trustworthiness, interest, and perceived understanding, as well as intention to act upon the received information and willingness to share the information with others. Source information did not influence ratings, but only 41.5% of

Cervico-vaginal mucus (CVM) - an accessible source of immunologically informative biomolecules.

Cervico-vaginal mucus (CVM), the product of epithelial cells lining the uterus, cervix and vagina, is secreted to facilitate uterine lubrication and microbial clearance. Predominantly composed of water and mucins, CVM also contains high levels of immuno-active proteins such as immunoglobulin A (IgA), lactoferrin and lysozyme which protect against infection by blocking adhesion and mediating microbial killing. The repertoire of cytokines, chemokines and antimicrobial peptides is predominantly generated by the secretions of endometrial epithelial cells into the uterine lumen and concentrated in

How Does ChatGPT Use Source Information Compared With Google? A Text Network Analysis of Online Health Information.

BACKGROUND: The lay public is increasingly using ChatGPT (a large language model) as a source of medical information. Traditional search engines such as Google provide several distinct responses to each search query and indicate the source for each response, but ChatGPT provides responses in paragraph form in prose without providing the sources used, which makes it difficult or impossible to ascertain whether those sources are reliable. One practical method to infer the sources used by ChatGPT is text network analysis. By understanding how ChatGPT uses source information in relation to traditi
