Interviewing patients and practitioners working together in teams. A multi-layered puzzle: putting the pieces together.

This paper presents and evaluates a methodological approach aiming at analysing some of the complex interaction between patients and different health care practitioners working together in teams. Qualitative health care research describes the values, perceptions and conceptions of patients and practitioners. In modern clinical work patients and professional practitioners often work together on complex cases involving different kinds of knowledge and values, each of them representing different perspectives. We need studies designed to capture this complexity. The methodological approach present

Management of abdominal aortic prosthetic graft and endograft infections. A multidisciplinary update.

Abdominal aortic graft infections (AGIs) occur in 1-5% of aortic prosthetic placements. It can result in limb amputation, pseudo-aneurysm formation, septic emboli, aorto-enteric fistulae, septic shock and death. The most frequently involved pathogens are methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative staphylococci, followed by Enterobacteriaceae and uncommon bacteria. In case of gut involvement the presence of fungi has to be considered. Computed tomography angiography is actually the gold standard diagnostic imaging but magnet

Safety of antithrombotic therapy in subjects with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia: prospective data from a multidisciplinary working group.

Subjects with the rare autosomal dominant disease Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) may develop medical conditions that require antithrombotic therapy (AT). However, safety of AT is uncertain in these patients and the only data currently available derive from retrospective analyses of registries and/or databases. At the HHT Centre of the 'Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS' (Rome, Italy), a prospective study is currently ongoing to evaluate the safety of AT in subjects affected by HHT. The study is enrolling subjects with a definite diagnosis of HHT who receive an

A multidisciplinary approach to urinary system iatrogenic injuries.

INTRODUCTION: Urinary system iatrogenic injuries appear because of urological, obstetric-gynecological, and surgical manipulations in the retroperitoneal space, pelvis, or perineum. The purpose of this research was to analyze and obtain knowledge about the issue of iatrogenic injuries, to apply injury prevention algorithms, and to assess multidisciplinary perspectives in modern surgery. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The research was interdisciplinary and consisted of several modules: a prospective, single-centre study of urinary system iatrogenic injuries (476 patients) along with four interregional

Becoming a Member of the Prevention Club: Development of Interdisciplinary Prevention Terminology.

INTRODUCTION: Prevention science is interdisciplinary, drawing upon multiple fields of research and practice to develop integrated knowledge. A challenge facing the field is the proliferation of different terms with the same meaning, and of terms with different meanings. This can create confusion in communication, affect evaluation standards, and ultimately also affect the implementation of preventive interventions. Contributing to the development of evidence standards for preventive interventions, this article describes the process and results of interdisciplinary prevention terminology devel

Fostering social innovation and building adaptive capacity for dengue control in Cambodia: a case study.

BACKGROUND: The social-ecological systems theory, with its unique conception of resilience (social-ecological systems & resilience, SESR), provides an operational framework that currently best meets the need for integration and adaptive governance as encouraged by the Sustainable Development Goals. SESR accounts for the complex dynamics of social-ecological systems and operationalizes transdisciplinarity by focusing on community engagement, value co-creation, decentralized leadership and social innovation. Targeting Social Innovation (SI) in the context of implementation research for vector-bo

Training for complexity: Fostering interdisciplinary thinking in One Health graduate education.

Graduate training in One Health must equip students to think across disciplines and address complex health challenges through integrative approaches. While case-based and project-based learning are increasingly used to support these goals, there is limited research on how graduate students engage in interdisciplinary exchange, particularly through peer feedback. This study examined structured peer interactions in a graduate-level One Health seminar at North Carolina State University. Six doctoral students from diverse disciplines - ranging from engineering to ecology to technical communication

Barriers to Voice Behavior in Online and Hybrid Multidisciplinary Team Meetings: A Qualitative Study.

RATIONALE: Guidelines for the treatment of a variety of diseases and medical conditions increasingly call for decision-making by a multidisciplinary team, which typically takes place during multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTMs). However, studies examining in-person MDTMs show that the decision-making processes during such meetings often fall short of optimal performance due to participants refraining from exercising voice behavior-denoting the communicative act of sharing one's perspectives, suggestions, and concerns related to the patient's diagnosis and treatment options with fellow partic

INTRODUCTION: Localized provoked vulvodynia (LPV) is a chronic condition characterized by pain in the vulvar vestibule, which can be provoked by pressure or touch and which is not tied to a clear underlying cause. Research into the etiology of and most appropriate treatment strategy for LPV is still limited. METHODS: Using Arksey and O'Malley's model for scoping reviews, we evaluated the research question: what is the current evidence regarding the efficacy/effectiveness of multimodal or interdisciplinary interventions for the treatment of LPV? We collated and analyzed articles from 2010 to 2

Integrated interdisciplinary training in the radiological sciences.

The radiation sciences are increasingly interdisciplinary, both from the research and the clinical perspectives. Beyond clinical and research issues, there are very real issues of communication between scientists from different disciplines. It follows that there is an increasing need for interdisciplinary training courses in the radiological sciences. Training courses are common in biomedical academic and clinical environments, but are typically targeted to scientists in specific technical fields. In the era of multidisciplinary biomedical science, there is a need for highly integrated multidi

PLANETARY GRAND CHALLENGES: A CALL FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY PARTNERSHIPS.

Universities have traditionally been places where individual scholars work on individual topics, in individual disciplines, with individual funding. Even though large research institutions include all the major disciplines, faculty and students remain in their schools or colleges, rarely crossing the campus to interact. Matters do not improve once knowledge is generated. Each discipline has its own journals, its own conferences, and its own professional organizations. The academy was designed to support unparalleled expertise in specialized knowledge. However, universities are beginning to rea
