Clinician Survey to Determine Knowledge of Dengue and Clinical Management Practices, Texas, 2014.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne viral disease, is increasingly being identified as a cause of outbreaks in the United States. During July-December 2013, a total of three south Texas counties reported 53 laboratory-confirmed dengue cases; 26 were locally acquired, constituting the largest outbreak in Texas since 2005. Because dengue outbreaks are expected to continue in south Texas and early case identification and timely treatment can reduce mortality, we sought to determine clinicians' knowledge of dengue and its clinical management. A survey was sent to 2,375 south Texas clinicians; 217 (9%) comple

Global cost-effectiveness of GDM screening and management: current knowledge and future needs.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is an increasing cause of morbidity in women and their offspring. Screening and intervention can reduce perinatal and most likely also long-term diabetes consequences. There have been many economic studies, but not recently systematically compared. We conducted a systematic search and abstraction of cost-effectiveness and cost-utility studies from 2002 to 2014. We standardized all findings to 2014 US dollars. We found that cost-effectiveness ratios varied widely. Most variation was found to be due to differences in geographic setting, diagnostic criteria and

Computer-assisted management of primary open-angle glaucoma. Knowledge acquisition and prototype testing.

Primary open-angle glaucoma is a common disease afflicting 1% to 2% of people older than 50 years of age. The care of patients with glaucoma is a subject of debate because the disease is incompletely understood. The diagnosis relies on a number of examinations, many of them performed by ophthalmic nurses, and the care of patients with glaucoma has become one of the main tasks for ophthalmic nurses in Sweden. This study describes a knowledge-based system for decision support in glaucoma management, which uses seven data elements about the patient to arrive at one of 25 different recommendations

A knowledge-enhanced domain-aware large language model agent for atrial fibrillation management.

Large language models (LLMs) show considerable potential for atrial fibrillation (AF) management, yet current clinical applications frequently remain suboptimal due to accuracy limitations. To address these limitations, this study developed PULSE (Potentiated User-friendly LLM-driven Search Engine), a novel knowledge-enhanced, domain-aware LLM agent specifically designed to improve AF patient self-management across the entire care continuum. The proposed framework integrates multimodal inputs, meticulously curated clinical knowledge bases, optimized prompt engineering, and retrieval-augmented

Knowledge and Attitudes of Critical Care Nurses Regarding Pain Management in Saudi Arabia.

BACKGROUND: Approximately five million patients on yearly basis are being admitted to the critical care unit around the world. Around (77%) of these patients suffer from pain during their stay in critical care units. Undertreated pain aggravates anxiety, sleep deprivation, agitation, delirium, and depression that often lead to a chronic condition. There are various barriers toward recognition and proper management of pain such as sedation, the presence of endotracheal tube, healthcare providers lack of knowledge etc. Therefore, it becomes essential for the nurses to have the required knowledge

Assessing pharmacists' knowledge, attitudes, and practices of opioid management within different patient populations.

BACKGROUND: Racial disparities in drug overdose exist, with black, indigenous, and Hispanic individuals experiencing higher rates of opioid overdose deaths. Opioid use disorder prevention services, such as opioid deprescribing and naloxone dispensing, have been identified as ways to prevent opioid overdose. Pharmacists can help use these strategies, but racial disparities in use exist. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate North Carolina (NC) pharmacist knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of opioid management practices, including opioid deprescribing and naloxone dispensing, across di

Building organisational cyber resilience: A strategic knowledge-based view of cyber security management.

The concept of cyber resilience has emerged in recent years in response to the recognition that cyber security is more than just risk management. Cyber resilience is the goal of organisations, institutions and governments across the world and yet the emerging literature is somewhat fragmented due to the lack of a common approach to the subject. This limits the possibility of effective collaboration across public, private and governmental actors in their efforts to build and maintain cyber resilience. In response to this limitation, and to calls for a more strategically focused approach, this p

Leveraging local knowledge for crisis management: a practice-based approach to managing uncertainty in healthcare during COVID-19.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Crises like the COVID-19 pandemic are inherently uncertain, dynamic and generate broader consequences on organisations, challenging traditional crisis management approaches. Conventional approaches often neglect the mechanisms and processes frontline practitioners enact in their local practices to adapt effectively. This study explores how healthcare professionals (HPs) at a university hospital centre developed and mobilised local knowledge to rapidly respond to the evolving conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: We conducted an interpretive single case study at a desig
