Despite legal provisions allowing for abortion in cases of rape and incest, survivors in West and Central Africa still face many access barriers. Male and transgender sex workers in Thailand experience high rates of violence, social stigma, economic marginalization, as well as limited access to legal protections and support services. Recent efforts to develop legal mechanisms to detect prenatal substance abuse and force pregnant women into drug-free conditions have precipitated ethical struggles for social workers. This article reviews relevant social work values and ethical issues, particularly the need to balance obligations to promote client self-determination, privacy, and access to chosen services with professional values that support coercive intervention to aid vulnerable people and to protect life. The constitutional principles that most affect coercive interventions--due process and equal protection--are reviewed.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate emergency care for testicular torsion (TT) in medical professional liability (MPL) claims.
METHODS: Claims related to TT from 2000 to 2018 were located. The assistance provided and the association with MPL were analyzed.
RESULTS: Eighty complaints were identified, testicular pain was reported in 83.75% of first consultations, with a mean evolution time of 15.5 h. The mean time to diagnosis was 7.98 days. Little is known about the civil legal needs (CLNs) of those experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV). In this convergent mixed-methods, cross-sectional study, we used quantitative and qualitative data from a national online survey linked to Veteran Affairs health records to describe and compare the CLNs of patients who have screened IPV-positive versus IPV-negative.
