Prevalence of Hepatitis B Among Migrants Living in High-Income Countries With Low/Intermediate HBV Prevalence-A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

The World Health Organisation targeted the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) for elimination as a public health threat by 2030. To achieve this goal, equitable access to HBV testing and treatment services is critical. Migrants usually experience multiple barriers to accessing HBV services. Understanding HBV prevalence among this population can support planning for HBV elimination. This systematic review aimed to estimate HBV prevalence among migrants in high-income countries with low/intermediate HBV prevalence. PubMed, Scopus, PsycINFO and Cochrane Library were searched for peer-reviewed studies publis

Complication development trajectories for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: evidence from a five-million retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a growing health burden in China. High complication rates contribute to increased morbidity, mortality, and costs. However, evidence is limited regarding how these complications develop and cluster over time in real-world settings, which this study examined. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study used big data from the Cheeloo Lifespan Electronic Health Research Data Library, comprising data from over 5 million individuals in Shandong Province, China, to investigate the trajectories, onset timing and key risk factors of T2DM-related complicatio

Personal Recovery Among People at Risk for Developing Serious Mental Health Problems: A Qualitative Systematic Review.

OBJECTIVE: Personal recovery refers to a person's pursuit of a full, meaningful life despite the potentially debilitating impact of a mental illness. An evidence base describing personal recovery among people at risk for developing a mental illness is lacking, limiting the potential for mental health services to support personal recovery. To address this gap, the authors synthesized the extant research describing personal recovery among people at risk for developing a mental illness. METHODS: A systematic search of several literature databases (MEDLINE, Embase, APA PsycInfo, Web of Science Co

The use of supplementary immunisation activities to improve uptake of current and future vaccines in low-income and middle-income countries: a systematic review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Immunisation coverage data in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) suggest that more strategies need to be implemented to achieve and sustain optimal vaccine uptake. Among possible strategies to improve immunisation coverage are supplementary immunisation activities (SIAs). We are therefore interested in conducting a systematic review to assess whether SIAs complement routine immunisation programmes to improve vaccination coverage and prevent disease outbreaks. METHODS: Our systematic review will focus on studies conducted in LMICs. With the help of an information spec

Quality improvement initiatives for hospitalised small and sick newborns in low- and middle-income countries: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: An estimated 2.6 million newborns died in 2016; over 98.5% of deaths occurred in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Neonates born preterm and small for gestational age are particularly at risk given the high incidence of infectious complications, cardiopulmonary, and neurodevelopmental disorders in this group. Quality improvement (QI) initiatives can reduce the burden of mortality and morbidity for hospitalised newborns in these settings. We undertook a systematic review to synthesise evidence from LMICs on QI approaches used, outcome measures employed to estimate effects, a

Migration is a growing phenomenon around the world, including within the African continent. Many migrants, especially African children, face challenges related to health and social inclusion and can face increased health risks. A systematic scoping review of available literature on the health of African migrant children across the globe was conducted to offer insight into these health risks. The review was conducted over a 15-month period from January 2019 to April 2020, yielding 6602 articles once duplicates were removed. This search included electronic databases, reference lists of articles

Systematic review and modelling of the cost-effectiveness of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging compared with current existing testing pathways in ischaemic cardiomyopathy.

BACKGROUND: Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) is increasingly used to assess patients for myocardial viability prior to revascularisation. This is important to ensure that only those likely to benefit are subjected to the risk of revascularisation. OBJECTIVES: To assess current evidence on the accuracy and cost-effectiveness of CMR to test patients prior to revascularisation in ischaemic cardiomyopathy; to develop an economic model to assess cost-effectiveness for different imaging strategies; and to identify areas for further primary research. DATA SOURCES: Databases searched were: M

paraORA: GPU-Accelerated Exact Over-Representation Analysis for Repeated Queries of Large Gene-Set Libraries.

Over-representation analysis (ORA) is widely used to interpret selected-gene lists, including differentially expressed genes and cell-type marker genes. Unlike ranked-list gene-set enrichment analysis (GSEA), ORA tests whether selected genes are over-represented in predefined gene sets under an explicit background. Repeated analysis of large gene-set libraries, however, can be computationally costly. GPU-accelerated methods such as rapidGSEA mainly target ranked-list GSEA and do not address repeated exact-ORA processing. We developed paraORA to accelerate repeated ORA by preparing a gene-set l

Vocational rehabilitation for mental health service users with chronic mental illness in low-income to upper-middle-income countries: a scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Work is integral to the occupations of human beings and accounts for up to a third of time spent in an average adult life. Occupational therapists play a role in vocational rehabilitation of mental health service users (MHSUs) with the aim of optimising their work participation. It is advisable that occupational therapists providing vocational rehabilitation to MHSUs with chronic mental illness in mental healthcare settings are guided by a practice framework developed for that particular context. This scoping review aims to summarise existing evidence on vocational rehabilitation
