Long-Term Remission of Recurrent Anaplastic Oligodendroglioma With WT-1-Specific CD8+ T-Cell Therapy: A Case Report.

We report a case of complete remission in anaplastic oligodendroglioma following adoptive cell therapy (ACT) with autologous Wilms tumor 1 (WT-1)-specific CD8+ T cells. A 40-year-old woman referred to our hospital for adjuvant chemotherapy after recurrent anaplastic oligodendroglioma initially presented with a left frontal tumor, diagnosed through seizure onset, and subtotal resection confirmed oligodendroglioma (WHO grade 2). Radiation therapy treated the residual tumor, achieving partial remission until recurrence 2.5 years later when malignant transformation to anaplastic oligodendroglioma

Response rate and prognostic factors of recurrent oligodendroglioma treated with procarbazine, CCNU, and vincristine chemotherapy. Dutch Neuro-oncology Group.

OBJECTIVES: To determine the response rate and factors correlated with response of oligodendroglial tumors to procarbazine, lomustine (CCNU), and vincristine (PCV) chemotherapy. DESIGN: Retrospective, observational multicenter study. METHODS: Patients treated with PCV or intensified PCV chemotherapy for a recurrent oligodendroglial tumor after surgery and radiation therapy with measurable disease were retrospectively evaluated for response. A 50% reduction in cross-sectional enhancing tumor area was considered a partial response. Stabilized or responding patients received six cycles of PCV u

Case report: Complete clinical remission of feline progressive histiocytosis after multimodal treatment including electrochemotherapy.

Feline histiocytic diseases are uncommon and rarely reported. Feline progressive histiocytosis (FPH) is the most common histiocytic disease in cats, predominantly affecting middle-aged animals. The most common presentation is the cutaneous form with solitary or multiple cutaneous nodules. A female, mixed-breed 6-year-old cat was presented with a 9-month history of a nodule in the nasal planum and was diagnosed by histopathology with histiocytic proliferation. At the time of diagnosis, new nodules were discovered on the lower lip, digit, and two lesions in the tail region, with the largest meas

Impact of the preservation media on ex vivo bone samples for full field mechanical testing.

INTRODUCTION: The most formidable primary tumor in the central nervous system is glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), distinguished by a median survival duration of just 12 months and recurrence likelihoods above 90% in less than 6 months following therapy. In spite of the implementation of multimodal treatment strategies, recurrent GBM (r-GBM) presents substantial therapeutic dilemmas, with the absence of a universally recognized standard of care. CASE PRESENTATION: In this discourse, we delineate the case of a 42-year-old male patient diagnosed with IDH-wild-type, MGMT-unmethylated, TERT promoter

Life-threatening dermatologic adverse events in oncology.

The incidences of life-threatening toxicities such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are inconsistently reported. The potential association of anticancer agents with SJS or TEN has not been systematically investigated. We searched the literature (Ovid: 1950 to June 2013 and PubMed: 1948 to June 2013) using terms for SJS/TEN and anticancer therapies. Primary case reports, case series, and clinical trials were included. In addition, MedWatch, the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS), was searched (1968 to August 2012) for SJS/TE

[Effectiveness of DNA repair and expression of MLH1, MSH2 and FASR in lymphocytes of patients with chemotherapy-responsive, disseminated cutaneous melanoma].

Patients with advanced malignant melanoma have poor prognosis as conventional chemotherapy induces complete response in a very small fraction (not more than 20%). One of research strategies aimed at raising its efficiency is the search for markers predicting individual response to chemotherapy. Our study was concerned with evaluation of the potential of DNA damage, repair (BER, MMR), expression of proteins MLH1, MSH2 and FasR as prognosticators of chemotherapy. These parameters were assessed in lymphocytes sampled from the blood of patients with metastatic cutaneous melanoma before and after o

The early- and intermediate-term toxicity to primitive hematopoietic progenitor cells of three chemotherapy regimens for advanced hodgkin lymphoma.

BACKGROUND: The early stem cell reservoir can be impaired by a few cycles of chemotherapy, and this impairment might persist after normalization of peripheral cytopenias. We directly evaluated the damage caused to marrow progenitor cells by 3 currently used chemotherapy regimens for advanced Hodgkin lymphoma. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Bone marrow samples from 37 patients randomly treated according to either the ABVD (doxorubicin/bleomycin/vinblastine/dacarbazine), COPPEBVCAD (cyclophosphamide/vincristine/procarbazine/prednisone/epirubicin/bleomycin/vinblastine/lomustine/melphalan/ vindesine), or

Postoperative radiotherapy and radiotherapy combined with CCNU chemotherapy for treatment of brain gliomas.

A prospective, randomized trial evaluates the effects of two postoperative treatment regimens on survival in 198 adult patients with supratentorial gliomas. All patients were irradiated with 6,000 rads after possibly radical removal of tumors. CCNU administration in the doses of 100 mg/sq m of body surface every 6-8 weeks following surgery proved to have no significant effect on the survival of patients. The median survival time in patients receiving radiation therapy alone was 61 +/- 7 weeks, while in those receiving additional chemotherapy was 56 +/- 4 weeks. Tumor histological malignancy an

Bilateral cranial polyneuropathy associated with an intracranial mass in a cat with concurrent tonsillar lymphoma.

A 14-year-old spayed female Siamese cat was presented with signs consistent with a rapidly progressive cranial polyneuropathy. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain revealed an extra-axial mass at the calvarial floor, extending caudally to involve bilateral trigeminal nerves and rostrally to involve the pituitary gland and optic chiasm. Additional findings included contrast-enhancing content within the bilateral tympanic bullae, mild mandibular and medial retropharyngeal lymphadenopathy, and a left tonsillar mass. Cytologic and histopathologic findings confirmed tonsillar lymphoma. The concu

Preclinical evaluation of several polymeric micelles identifies Soluplus®-docetaxel as the most effective candidate in multiple glioblastoma models.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is one of the most lethal cancers, with limited treatment options due to the blood-brain barrier (BBB), systemic toxicity, and treatment resistance. Nanomedicine offers potential solutions to these challenges. This study explores Pluronic® F127 and Soluplus®-based micelles as carriers for Lomustine, Gefitinib, and Docetaxel to determine the optimal system for GBM therapy. Micelles were physicochemically characterized and biologically validated using U87-MG and U251-MG GBM cell lines in 2D and 3D models, assessing internalization, safety, and therapeutic efficacy.

Treatment-induced remission of medulloblastoma using a chemotherapeutic regimen devoid of vincristine in a child with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth (cmt) disease is the most common form of inherited neuropathy. Core features include peripheral neuropathy and secondary axonal degeneration, with a noted distal predominance of limb-muscle wasting, weakness, and sensory loss. Given the significant prevalence of cmt, superimposed neoplastic disease can be encountered within this patient population. Malignancies that are treated with vincristine (a microtubule-targeting agent), even at low doses as part of standard treatment, pose a significant challenge for patients with cmt. Here, we present the case of a child with cmt wh

Assessment of hypoxia-targeting therapy for gastrointestinal lymphoma in dogs: Preclinical test using murine models.

The transcription factor hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) is expressed in several cancers under intratumoral hypoxic stress that arises during pathogenic processes, resulting in malignant progression. We previously reported that hypoxic stimulation enhances the growth potential of canine lymphoma cells by activating the HIF-1α signaling pathway. In contrast, evofosfamide (Evo) releases a DNA-alkylating moiety within hypoxic tumor regions, suggesting that Evo could serve as a hypoxia-targeting drug in canine lymphoma. This study aimed to use Evo to evaluate hypoxia-targeted therapy in dogs

Clinical outcomes in dogs with localized splenic histiocytic sarcoma treated with splenectomy with or without adjuvant chemotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Localized splenic histiocytic sarcoma (HS) in dogs is a poorly understood disease, and could have longer survival times than disseminated or hemophagocytic HS. Understanding the clinical behavior of localized splenic HS can refine treatment recommendations. OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical characteristics and outcomes of dogs with localized splenic HS. ANIMALS: Fourteen client-owned dogs with histologically confirmed splenic HS that received splenectomy. METHODS: Multi-institutional retrospective case series-medical records of dogs with splenic HS were reviewed. Dog signalmen

Serum VEGF-C is associated with metastatic site in patients with malignant melanoma.

Vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) is involved in lymphatic metastatic spread. Metastatic site is a prognostic factor in melanoma. We assessed whether serum levels of VEGF-C are associated with metastatic sites or prognosis in patients treated for stage IV melanoma. The study included 64 patients, who received dacarbazine or four-drug chemotherapy (dacarbazine, vincristine, bleomycin and lomustine; BOLD) both combined with interferon-alfa. Serum samples for VEGF-C were analyzed by ELISA. The patients (n =22) with only skin and subcutaneous metastases had significantly lower mean VEG

Postoperative Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis Following Resection of an Insular Astrocytoma: A Case Report.

Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate (anti-NMDA) receptor encephalitis is the most common subtype of autoimmune encephalitis, typically associated with ovarian teratomas, but also reported in men and children. We describe an exceptionally rare case of anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis following glioma resection. A 34-year-old man with no prior medical history presented with severe headache and generalized tonic-clonic seizure. Brain MRI suggested a tumor in the right insular region, and surgical resection confirmed a diffuse astrocytoma, WHO grade II. Postoperatively, the patient developed fever, seizures,
