Long-acting reversible contraceptive methods are the most effective reversible contraceptives and have an excellent safety record. Although uncommon, possible long-acting reversible contraceptive complications should be included in the informed consent process. Obstetrician-gynecologists and other gynecologic care providers should understand the diagnosis and management of common clinical challenges. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends the algorithms included in this document for management of the most common clinical challenges.

INTRODUCTION: Immediate postpartum long-acting reversible contraception (IPP-LARC) after delivery may decrease rapid repeat pregnancy (RRP). RRP is associated with preterm birth, small for gestational age, low birth weight, and infant/maternal mortality. In April 2017, the Ohio legislature passed SB 332, mandating immediate postpartum LARC coverage. Later that year, our hospital made the IPP-LARC Nexplanon (and not intrauterine devices [IUDs]) available to all delivering patients. This study aimed to see if SB 332 is associated with decreased RRP.
METHODS: Using electronic health record and s

There is a long history of regarding marginalised groups as unfit to parent and of eugenic policies targeting those with 'undesirable' bodily conditions or behaviours. This is part of a broader pattern of stratified reproduction - structural conditions that enable or discourage certain groups from reproducing - that often brings about and exacerbates injustices. This paper critically assesses the US and UK social and medical literature on applying pressure to marginalised groups, or those who have behaved 'irresponsibly', to use long-acting reversible contraception (LARC). Targeting young peop

PURPOSE: Long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC), such as intrauterine devices (IUD) and implants, are highly effective. However, the uptake of LARC in Australia has been slow and the oral contraceptive pill (OC) remains the best known and most widely used contraceptive. Our aim was to investigate women's preferences for the features of LARC.
METHODS: We used a discrete choice experiment (DCE) in which each respondent completed 12 choice tasks. We recruited a general population sample of 621 women in Australia aged 18-49 using an online survey panel. A mixed logit model was used to analy

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine whether condom use varied between adolescents and young women using long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) vs non-LARC hormonal methods and assess if the initiation of LARC was associated with lower condom use.
STUDY DESIGN: This study used data from a large longitudinal study of sexually active females aged 13-25 years. Questionnaires assessed contraception, condom use, sexual history, and partner characteristics at the baseline visit and every 6 months. Log-binomial regression analyses examined associations between hormonal contraceptive method

In 2016, the NeighborhoodHELP mobile health centers (MHCs) started to provide free long acting reversible contraception (LARC) for uninsured patients who lacked access due to cost. All female patients with appointments from May 1st, 2016 through April 30th, 2017 were identified. LARC uptake rate, as well as demographics for patients aged 15-44 who underwent LARC insertion versus those who did not, were determined. Of the 520 female patients seen on the MHCs during the study period, 170 were of reproductive age. Seventeen (10%) patients opted for LARC; 100 % of these patients spoke Spanish or E

BACKGROUND: Many women with opioid use disorder (OUD) do not use highly effective postpartum contraception such as long-acting reversible contraception (LARC). We evaluated factors associated with prenatal intent and postpartum receipt of LARC among women receiving medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for OUD.
STUDY DESIGN: This was a retrospective cohort study of 791 pregnant women with OUD on MAT who delivered at an academic institution without immediate postpartum LARC services between 2009 and 2012. LARC intent was defined as a documented plan for postpartum LARC during pregnancy and LARC

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), a major pay-for-performance programme in the United Kingdom, on prescribing of long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC) in primary care.
METHODS: Negative binomial interrupted time series analysis using practice level prescribing data from April 2007 to March 2012. The main outcome measure was the prescribing rate of long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC), including hormonal and non hormonal intrauterine devices and systems (IUDs and IUSs), injectable contraceptives and hormonal imp

OBJECTIVE: To investigate if abortion clinics follow Swedish national guidelines regarding early insertion of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) after medical abortions up to 9 weeks of gestation and, if not, the reasons for not doing so.
STUDY DESIGN: We attempted to survey representatives of all 60 known Swedish abortion clinics by telephone in November 2019, including public hospitals and private clinics. We asked questions about clinic characteristics, clinic routines concerning early insertion of IUDs and implants, adherence to guidelines and, when applicable, perceived reasons

INTRODUCTION: The use of long-acting reversible contraceptives is low among adolescents owing to the high up-front cost. In this study, a 5-year cost-effectiveness model and budget impact analysis were used to compare the use of long-acting reversible contraceptives with the use of combined oral contraceptives among Brazilian adolescents.
METHODS: A Markov model was developed to mirror the clinical and economic effects of long-acting reversible contraceptives among sexually active Brazilian adolescents in the public health system for a 5-year duration, starting from 2018. The costs were expre
