[Side effects of therapy with flashlamps and lasers].

Dermatologic flashlamp and laser therapy involves photochemical, thermal, photoablative, photoacoustic and phtoodisruptive effects, depending on the wave length, energy density and pulse duration. All of these effects when properly employed can lead to optimal dermatologic and cosmetic results. They also carry a high risk for side effects and damage when not properly used. The risk of side effects depends greatly on the training and experience of the treating physician. Both a solid dermatologic training in order to correctly diagnosis skin changes and knowledge of laser principles are require

Brain photobiomodulation therapy on neurological and psychological diseases.

Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy is an innovative treatment for neurological and psychological conditions. Complex IV of the mitochondrial respiratory chain can be stimulated by red light, which increases ATP synthesis. In addition, the ion channels' light absorption causes the release of Ca2+, which activates transcription factors and changes gene expression. Neuronal metabolism is improved by brain PBM therapy, which also promotes synaptogenesis and neurogenesis as well as anti-inflammatory. Its depression-treating potential is attracting attention for other conditions, including Parkinson's

Treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatitis by laser therapy: A systematic review of the literature.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is defined as multifactor immunologic inflammatory lesions in the oral cavity, characterized by painful, recurrent single/multiple, shallow, round or ovoid ulcerations of mucosal tissues. To date, a considerable number of RAS treatment protocols have been suggested, but since the etiology of RAS is idiopathic, these treatment options have symptomatic rather than curative or preventive effect. Recently, it has been suggested that laser therapy could be successfully used as an efficient treatment approach in therapy of RAS. Therefore, the aim o

Factors influencing the effect of photobiomodulation in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia: A systematic review and analyses of summary-level data.

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is used to treat androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The therapeutic effect of LLLT on AGA has been evaluated; however, there is a paucity of studies that investigated device- and usage-related factors that may influence the effect of LLLT on hair regrowth. The literature was systematically searched to identify eligible studies; PubMed, Scopus, EMBASE and clinicaltrials.gov databases were searched on 30 April 2020. Eligible studies were randomized trials that investigated the effect of LLLT on hair density in AGA. Robust linear regressions were used to make comparisons.

Safety Profile of Slit-Lamp-Delivered Retinal Laser Photobiomodulation.

PURPOSE: Photobiomodulation (PBM) refers to therapeutic irradiation of tissue with low-energy, 630- to 1000-nm wavelength light. An increasing body of evidence supports a beneficial effect of PBM in retinal disorders. To date, most studies have utilized light-emitting diode irradiation sources. Slit-lamp-mounted retinal lasers produce a coherent beam that can be delivered with precisely defined dosages and predetermined target area; however, the use of retinal lasers raises safety concerns that warrant investigation prior to clinical application. In this study, we determined safe dosages of la

Laser hair removal.

The presence of unwanted hair continues to plague many individuals for whom traditional methods of hair removal remain unsatisfactory. Laser and flashlamp technology now offers the potential for rapid, safe, and effective treatment of unwanted hair. An ever-increasing number of published studies have confirmed the long-term efficacy of laser and flashlamp treatment. For the most part, however, the benefits of this technology have been limited to individuals with dark hair and relatively fair skin. The remaining challenge is to develop the means to eliminate light-colored hair as well as the ca

From concept to practice: intra-articular photobiomodulation for knee osteoarthritis.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a prevalent degenerative joint disease worldwide. Current treatments primarily offer only symptomatic relief and lack disease-modifying efficacy. Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) has shown potential in modulating cellular metabolism and inflammation to alleviate KOA symptoms; however, its conventional transcutaneous delivery is significantly limited by inadequate tissue penetration and energy attenuation, leading to inconsistent clinical outcomes. To overcome these limitations, this review proposes an innovative therapeutic paradigm: intra-articular PBM. This appr

Photobiomodulation therapy as an additional method for the treatment of temporomandibular disorder patients- a narrative review.

The photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is promising additional therapy in the treatment of temporomandibular disorder (TMD). In this regard, the purpose of this narrative review is to give a wide-ranging, objective, and judicious view of the current knowledge on PBMT as an additional TMD treatment modality, with summarised updated information. Although the results of most research studies report improvement of pain in TMD patients, some state that sustainability of absence of pain after PBMT of TMD is of concern. There has been a recent surge in research around the application of lasers for the
