Intrathyroidal and circulating lymphocyte subsets in different stages of autoimmune postpartum thyroiditis.

Postpartum thyroiditis (PPT) is a reversible form of lymphocytic thyroiditis which has been attributed to an aggravation of preexisting subclinical autoimmune thyroiditis. In this study no differences in circulating lymphocyte subsets were found between 9 thyrotoxic and 18 hypothyroid PPT patients and normal subjects. We obtained sufficient numbers of thyroid-infiltrating lymphocytes for surface marker characterization in 3 women in the thyrotoxic phase and in 10 women in the hypothyroid phase of PPT. Cells were identified by conventional T and B cell markers as well as by monoclonal antibodie

Flow microfluorometry analysis of alterations in T-lymphocyte subsets during murine listeriosis.

C57BL/6 mice were infected intravenously with 6 X 10(3) Listeria monocytogenes organisms. As early as day 3 of infection, there was a marked reduction in the number of lymphocytes recovered from the peripheral blood, bone marrow, and thymuses of infected animals. Concomitantly, there was an increase in the number of splenic lymphocytes. By day 14, both the total and differential cell counts were similar in both infected and normal animals. Flow microfluorometric studies comparing the Thy-1.2, Lyt-1, Lyt-2, and surface immunoglobulin (SIg) phenotypes of lymphocytes from normal and infected mice

Changes in T-lymphocyte subsets during childhood Epstein-Barr virus infectious mononucleosis.

Lymphocyte subsets were measured using monoclonal antibodies in 11 children with Epstein-Barr virus-induced infectious mononucleosis and compared with those of 10 normal children. In acute infectious mononucleosis the percentage of T8+ lymphocytes was greater while the percentage of T4+ lymphocytes and the T4+ to T8+ ratio were less than those measured in normal children. The percentage and absolute number of T lymphocytes, as enumerated by E rosetting, did not differ from the values for normal children. The children with acute infectious mononucleosis had a somewhat lower T8+ response than th

Distribution of T-lymphocyte subsets in Hodgkin's disease characterized by monoclonal antibodies.

Mononuclear-cell suspensions of lymph nodes, spleen and blood from 24 patients with active Hodgkin's disease (HD) were studied for possible imbalance of T and B lymphocytes, and T-lymphocyte subsets, using monospecific anti-T antibodies and other reagents. A profile showing T-cell predominance was demonstrated in lymph nodes and blood, with total T-cells ranging from 50-70% of the cell count. As defined by monoclonal antibodies, 70-85 of the latter comprised the "inducer" subclass, the remainder being "suppressor" cells. There were no essential differences between histologically involved and u

Lymphocyte subsets contribute to the degree of lobulitis and ductitis in sclerosing lymphocytic lobulitis of the breast.

AIMS: Sclerosing lymphocytic lobulitis (SLL) of the breast is characterised by lymphocytic lobulitis, ductitis, vasculitis and dense keloidal fibrosis with epithelioid fibroblasts. However, the subsets of the infiltrating lymphocytes and their contribution to disease progression have not been fully explored. METHODS: CD20, CD3, CD4, CD8 and regulatory T (Treg) lymphocytes were evaluated in the epithelial and vascular areas in SLL. The relationship between the lymphocyte subset in different regions and the degree of inflammation was analysed. RESULTS: Lymphocytic infiltration was mainly locat

Clonal associations between lymphocyte subsets and functional states in rheumatoid arthritis synovium.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease involving antigen-specific T and B cells. Here, we perform single-cell RNA and repertoire sequencing on paired synovial tissue and blood samples from 12 seropositive RA patients. We identify clonally expanded CD4 + T cells, including CCL5+ cells and T peripheral helper (Tph) cells, which show a prominent transcriptomic signature of recent activation and effector function. CD8 + T cells show higher oligoclonality than CD4 + T cells, with the largest synovial clones enriched in GZMK+ cells. CD8 + T cells with possibly virus-reactive TCRs are dis

Analysis of T-lymphocyte subsets and risk factors in children with tuberculosis.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) is not only related to infection but also involves immune factors. This study explores the changes in T-lymphocyte subsets in children with TB who are human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative and examines their relationship using chest computed tomography (CT) scans. Additionally, the study identifies risk factors for severe TB (STB) in children and establishes relevant risk prediction models. METHODS: We recruited 235 participants between 2018 and 2022, comprising 176 paediatric patients with TB who were HIV-negative and 59 age-matched children with bacterial

Abnormalities of Peripheral Lymphocyte Subsets in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients Complicated with Osteoporosis.

INTRODUCTION: Osteoporosis (OP) is one of the major comorbidities of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Recent studies have shown that immune cells modulate bone health and regulate bone remodeling. However, the alterations of lymphocyte subsets in RA patients with OP are unclear. Here, we assessed the absolute numbers and proportions of the subsets in RA sufferers with OP and investigated the clinical significance. METHODS: A total of 777 RA patients and 117 gender- and age-matched healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled in this study. Patients were divided into RA-non-OP and RA-OP group according to t

Abnormal distribution of distinct lymphocyte subsets in children with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome.

Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) is a severe and rare primary immunodeficiency. Several studies show that WAS protein (WASp) plays a key role in the function of certain lymphocyte subsets. So far, no study has described distinct immunophenotypic abnormalities associated with WAS; thus the prognostic significance of any such abnormalities is unclear. This study examined many differences in the percentage/absolute numbers of distinct lymphocyte subsets in 20 WAS patients and 20 age/sex-matched healthy controls, and analyzed the association between these abnormalities and clinical disease scores. Reference values of lymphocyte subsets in healthy, HIV-negative children in Cameroon.

Lymphocyte subset reference values used to monitor infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, or other immunological disorders in healthy children in Cameroon, are lacking. Values for Caucasian cohorts are already being utilized for clinical decisions but could be inappropriate for African populations. We report here the immunological profile for children aged from birth through 6 years in Cameroon and also compare our values to data from other African and Caucasian populations. In a cohort of 352 healthy children, aged 0 to 6 years, the relative and absolute numbers of T-

Peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets in children with frequent upper respiratory tract infections.

It is a common and well-known fact that infants and preschool children undergo frequent episodes of upper respiratory tract infections. The majority of these children do not have a recognized immunodeficiency. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of frequent upper respiratory tract infections on cellular immunity, using peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets and activation markers as defining parameters. The study group consisted of 16 children (aged 2-6 years) with frequent upper respiratory tract infections; 30 age-matched healthy children served as controls. Peripheral bloo

Imbalance of CD4+ lymphocyte subsets in patients with mixed connective tissue disease.

CD4+ (helper/inducer) T lymphocyte subsets were studied in the peripheral blood from patients with mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) by double-labelling immunofluorescence. The proportion of CD4+CD45RA+ cells was higher (P less than 0.01) when compared with controls, whereas CD4+CD29+ cells were markedly diminished (P less than 0.001). CD4+CD29+ cells were lower than in patients with progressive systemic sclerosis who were studied in parallel. Upon stimulation with phytohaemagglutinin, CD4+ cells from MCTD patients showed a strong reactivity to acquire the CD29+ phenotype. Expression of h
