IntroductionSince the late 2000s, several major measles epidemics have occurred in Europe, including France. In 2017, the French Health Ministry extended from three to 11 the number of mandatory childhood vaccines required for preschool and primary school admission; these included the vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR).AimOur aim was to assess if this measure helped to improve MMR vaccine timeliness (VT) or reduce socioeconomic inequalities in MMR vaccine coverage.MethodsA nationwide study of three birth cohorts (2015, 2017, 2019) followed up 2.1 million children for 48 months to

BACKGROUND: The annual Hajj and Umrah are one of the largest recurring religious mass gatherings across the globe drawing pilgrims from more than 185 countries. The living circumstances and activities of the pilgrims may create an environment for the occurrence and spread of communicable diseases. Each year, the Health authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in coordination with international health authorities, updates health requirements for pilgrims. The Hajj for 2017 took place from August 24 to September 5, 2017. Here, we review the expected obligations for immunizations for the 2018 Ha

BACKGROUND: In Italy, national-level immunization polices are included in the National Immunization Prevention Plan (PNPV), whose latest edition - 2017-2019 PNPV - was finally approved in February 2017. Coverage rates are a key measure of immunization system performance; it can inform and support national and regional polices' implementation monitoring, as well as measure the impact of interventions aimed at increasing vaccine uptake.
METHODS: We collected, analysed and critically interpreted 2000-2016 Italian national infant immunization coverage trends, by different vaccine, target populati

INTRODUCTION: Asthma is the most common chronic disease in children. Its exacerbation results from allergic and infectious diseases.
AIM: To assess the influence of a clinical form of asthma on preschoolers' vaccine immunity following 3 years after the completion of the mandatory vaccination programme.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study encompassed 172 preschool children with asthma being newly diagnosed, including 140 patients with mild asthma and 32 with moderate asthma, whose vaccine immunity (level of IgG-specific antibodies) was assessed after the mandatory early vaccines had been administ

This article takes a critical look at the pros and cons of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines. There is enough evidence to suggest that the prophylactic vaccines are efficacious in preventing various benign and malignant conditions (including cervical cancers) caused by HPV. Even though the vaccine is costly, hypothetical analysis has shown that HPV vaccination will be cost effective in the long run. Therapeutic HPV vaccines used to treat established disease are still undergoing evaluation in clinical studies, and results seem to be encouraging. Although several countries have started mandato

BACKGROUND: Recent global outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases, both before and since the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, have led to the introduction or strengthening of vaccine mandate policies to target vaccine refusal. Globally, there is wide variation in how governments and jurisdictions implement and enforce mandatory vaccination as well as the financial and educational consequences to those who fail to comply. We explored the impact of mandate vaccination policies on Australian Immunization Specialists who work in Specialist Immunization Clinics (SIC) for approving vaccine exemp

Mumps is an acute viral infectious disease characterized by fever and swelling and tenderness of one or more salivary glands, usually the parotid gland. Since 1976, the German Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) has recommended a mumps vaccination as part of the routine immunization schedule in former West Germany. In East Germany, the vaccination was only introduced in 1991 after reunification. In the preceding decades, no comprehensive surveillance system existed in Germany. However, for East Germany and the successional federal states of former East Germany, data on mumps incidence ar

The study evaluates knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour of mothers regarding the immunization of 841 infants who attended public kindergarten in Cassino and Crotone, Italy. Overall, 57.8% of mothers were aware about all four mandatory vaccinations for infants (poliomyelitis, tetanus, diphtheria, hepatitis B). The results of a multiple logistic regression analysis showed that this knowledge was significantly greater among mothers with a higher education level and among those who were older at the time of the child's birth. Respondents' attitudes towards the utility of vaccinations for preventin

The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the importance of vaccinations in protecting both healthcare workers (HCWs) and their patients. With the retreat of the pandemic, attention must now shift to reinforcing routine immunizations among HCWs, including measles, varicella, rubella, and other vaccine-preventable diseases. This letter highlights the need for mandatory vaccinations for HCWs to minimize nosocomial infections and ensure patient safety, drawing insights from recent studies on vaccine coverage and attitudes in the healthcare sector.

INTRODUCTION: Pediatric health care settings are high-risk environments for spreading communicable and vaccine-preventable diseases from health care workers to susceptible patients.
METHOD: All managers of pediatric clinics operating in the state of Utah were included. Participants were invited to complete a two-page questionnaire regarding their clinic vaccination policies.
RESULTS: Half (n = 23) of Utah pediatric outpatient clinic managers recommend employee vaccinations, although employee refusal was allowed without consequence. Of all adult vaccines, influenza was most often included by

UNLABELLED: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic affected the entire world and contributed to severe health and economic consequences. A safe and effective vaccine is a tool allowing the pandemic to be controlled. Hence, we aimed to conduct a survey on vaccinations against seasonal influenza and COVID-19 in Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine. We also evaluated societal attitudes towards influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted the study between December 2020 and May 2021. At the time, the countries subject to the research were between the second and third waves of the COVID-19

BACKGROUND: The detection of wild poliovirus in Israeli sewage in May 2013 led the health authorities to decide that children who had been vaccinated with IPV would also be vaccinated with OPV. The decision sought to protect vulnerable Israeli individuals who were either not vaccinated with IPV or who suffered from an immune deficiency, to preserve Israel's status as a polio-free country, to prevent the virus' "exportation" into vulnerable polio-free countries, and to participate in the global efforts toward the eradication of polio. After a massive public persuasion campaign, 79% of the child

Preparations for healthcare workers to respond to a smallpox attack pose an array of daunting challenges, both financial and logistical, that must be addressed in a few weeks. By the end of the month, a massive corps of doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers will voluntarily receive the smallpox vaccine as part of the first phase of a national strategy announced last month by President Bush.

The description of every possible adverse effect or event related to vaccines is mandatory during the ongoing worldwide COVID-19 vaccination program. Although cases of cutaneous varicella zoster virus (VZV) reactivation after COVID-19 vaccination have been increasingly reported in literature and database sets, a description of VZV-induced neurological disease (VZV-ND) is still lacking. In the present study, we retrospectively evaluated patients admitted to our clinic and diagnosed with VZV-ND during the COVID-19 vaccination campaign (January-April 2021) and in the same months in the previous t
