Accuracy of two electronic apex locators in mandibular mesial canals and the influence of root canal anatomy: a micro-CT-based study.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to compare working length measurements obtained using two different electronic apex locators (EALs), Propex Pixi and Woodpecker, at two distinct measurement points, and to evaluate how anatomical complexities affect their accuracy. The working length data from these EAL measurements were compared with gold-standard values determined by micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). METHODS: Mesial roots of 46 mandibular molars were included. Actual canal lengths (RCL) were determined under an operating microscope. The real working length (RWL) was calculated by subtracting

Prognostic and staging implications of mandibular canal invasion in lower gingival squamous cell carcinoma.

A multi-institutional study was undertaken to determine whether mandibular canal (MC) invasion and mandibular medullary bone invasion are independent factors in lower gingival squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). A total of 345 patients with lower gingival SCC were retrospectively reviewed. Mandibular bone invasion was categorized into three types; no bone invasion; invasion through cortical bone (medullary); and MC invasion. The overall survival rate and factors affecting local, regional, and distant failures were assessed by Cox proportional hazards regression analysis and Kaplan-Meier estimates.

Bayesian Hierarchical Modelling of Root Canal Morphology in Mandibular First Premolars Across 21 Countries.

BACKGROUND: Understanding root canal morphology is crucial for successful endodontic treatment; however, the anatomy of mandibular first premolars (M1Ps) remains one of the most variable and challenging aspects. The Vertucci classification provides a standardised framework for describing canal configurations; however, population-level data integrating multiple countries are scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the global distribution and determinants of Vertucci canal morphology in M1Ps using a Bayesian hierarchical model. METHODS: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) data of M1Ps from 21 cou

Utilization of Cone Beam Computed Tomography in Analyzing the Relationship Between the Mandibular Fourth Premolar Tooth Roots, the Mandibular Canal, and Ventral Mandibular Cortex in 81 Small Breed Dogs.

The mandibular fourth premolar teeth (308, 408) and surrounding mandibular bone are subject to pathologies such as periodontal disease, periapical pathology, and mandibular fracture. As such, the locations of these teeth roots in relation to the mandibular canal and the ventral mandibular cortex are important considerations when developing a surgical treatment plan. This study analyzed the 308 and 408 teeth with cone beam computed tomography scans in 81 small breed dogs. There was no statistically significant variance found in distance to the mandibular canal or the mandibular ventral cortex b

Evaluation of Minimally Invasive Preparation of Curved Mesial Canals of Mandibular Molars - An In Vitro Study.

INTRODUCTION: Curved mesial roots can be challenging for different stages of endodontic treatment. Preparation aims to enlarge, clean, and shape the root canal system, and hundreds of systems are available to carry it out. Aiming to maintain pericervical dentin, minimally invasive preparation was proposed, and with it, instruments with lower tapers emerged. This study aimed to evaluate the increase in canal volume, the centering ability of the instruments, and root canal transportation of two different rotary systems with lower tapers. METHODS: Eighteen curved mesial roots of extracted mandib

Endodontic Management of a Mandibular Second Premolar with Three Root Canals and Taurodontism: A Case Report.

A complete understanding of canal morphology is essential to achieve successful endodontic treatment. Although mandibular second premolars are reported to have usually only one root canal at the apex, in this case we reported a mandibular second premolar with three root canals and taurodont morphology. A patient was referred to the endodontic department at Mashhad Faculty of Dentistry with a chief complaint of pain in her mandibular right second premolar tooth. The diagnosis of pulpal necrosis and chronic apical periodontitis was established. The initial radiograph showed a taurodont premolar
