Aging knowledge, geriatric care attitudes, and career choice motivation among nursing students: A latent profile analysis and mediation analysis.

BACKGROUND: The global aging population has intensified the demand for geriatric care, yet a critical shortage of professionals persists, partly due to nursing students' low motivation to pursue careers in this field. Knowledge of aging and attitudes towards geriatric care are key antecedents to career choice motivation, but their complex interrelationships and the heterogeneity in attitudes remain underexplored. AIM: To identify latent profiles of geriatric care attitudes, examine differences in knowledge of aging and career choice motivation across profiles, and investigate knowledge of agi

Associations between obsessive-compulsive symptoms, impulsivity, and suicidality among Chinese college students: a latent profile analysis and mediation analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Previous research has established a strong association between obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and elevated suicidality; however, the impact of the severity of obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCSs) on suicidality and the mechanisms underlying this influence remain insufficiently understood. Impulsivity is a strongly predictive factor for suicidality and positively correlated with OCD. Based on self-control depletion theory and dual-regulation models, OCSs might increase suicidality via impulsivity. Therefore, the present study aims to explore their relationship and the potential

From Resilience to Performance: A Serial Mediation Analysis of Stress and Loneliness Among Marine Engineers.

Previous research examining the relationship between psychological resilience and job performance has provided important insights; however, the psychosocial pathways underlying this relationship remain insufficiently understood in maritime settings. This study aimed to examine the relationship between psychological resilience and job performance, as well as the indirect pathways linking these variables through the serial mediation of perceived stress and loneliness among marine engineers. A sample of 400 marine engineers employed on Turkish-flagged commercial vessels participated in the study.

Anthropometric traits, metabolic biomarkers, and pancreatic cancer risk: a causal mediation analysis in UK Biobank.

BACKGROUND: Obesity is a risk factor for pancreatic cancer, but mechanisms remain unclear. We investigated how anthropometric traits, individually and combined, relate to pancreatic cancer risk and whether associations are mediated by metabolic biomarkers. METHODS: We analysed 462,300 adults (40-69 years) in the UK Biobank. Principal component analysis derived three body shape phenotypes combining body mass index (BMI), height, weight, waist and hip circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR). Mediation was assessed using four-way decomposition. RESULTS: Over a median follow-up of 10.9 years

Trauma symptoms, memory accuracy, and eyewitness suggestibility: a mediation analysis in a non-clinical sample.

BACKGROUND: Eyewitness testimony is a key component of legal decision-making, yet it is highly vulnerable to cognitive and psychological influences. While trauma has been associated with alterations in memory processes, its role in eyewitness suggestibility remains unclear. In particular, it is not well understood whether trauma influences suggestibility directly or through related mechanisms such as dissociation or memory accuracy. The present study aimed to examine the relationship between trauma level and eyewitness memory performance, with a specific focus on memory accuracy and susceptibi

Tobacco retail landscapes, structural disadvantage, and adult smoking in Tennessee: A spatially adjusted mediation analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Tennessee remains a high-smoking state with a permissive retail policy environment. We used spatially adjusted Bayesian mediation models to quantify how census-tract socioeconomic disadvantage and tobacco retailer density jointly shape adult smoking prevalence. METHODS: Using a Bayesian joint path model with spatial adjustment, we estimated direct and indirect associations of poverty, education, racial/ethnic composition, rurality, Appalachian status, and historical redlining through Home Owners' Loan Corporation (HOLC) maps. RESULTS: Greater density was associated with higher

Alcohol consumption and mortality among stroke survivors: A NHANES observational cohort study with mediation analysis.

The long-term effects of alcohol consumption among stroke survivors are unclear. This study investigated the association between alcohol intake and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, and whether inflammatory markers mediate this relationship. A total of 793 stroke survivors from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2005 to 2016 were classified by alcohol intake frequency. Mortality data were obtained from the National Death Index. Cox models estimated hazard ratios for mortality. Mediation analysis examined inflammatory biomarkers (neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-

Behavioral pain interventions improve sleep via reduced pain interference and catastrophizing: Secondary longitudinal mediation analysis.

Sleep and pain problems commonly co-occur yet few treatments address both. Behavioral pain interventions can improve sleep even when sleep is not explicitly targeted, but how these effects occur remains unclear. We conducted a secondary analysis of a 3-arm randomized trial (N = 223) of 8-session cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT; n = 76), 1-session Empowered Relief (ER; n = 78), 1-session health education (HE; n = 69) in chronic low back pain. We tested whether changes in pain intensity, interference, catastrophizing, and self-efficacy explain sleep improvement using self-report measures from

Metabolic signatures of sleep health and stroke risk: A prospective cohort study with mediation analysis.

OBJECTIVES: Healthy sleep is associated with lower stroke risk, but the underlying metabolic mechanisms remain poorly understood. We investigated whether a nuclear magnetic resonance-derived metabolic signature mediates this association. METHODS: This prospective cohort study included 200,729 UK Biobank participants (mean age 56.48±8.10 years, 53.80% female) free of stroke at baseline. A healthy sleep score (0-6) was derived from 6 behaviors as follows: chronotype, sleep duration, insomnia, snoring, daytime dozing, and ease of getting up. Sleep-related metabolites among 249 plasma nuclear mag

Mediation analysis of the molecular phenotypes in a severe MASH-like liver injury mouse model.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a severe form of fatty liver disease, is a leading cause of cirrhosis and lacks effective therapies. Understanding the molecular mediators of disease progression remains a critical gap. This study aimed to investigate the roles of molecular phenotypes as mediators of MASH disease features in a diet-induced mouse model. Data used for these analyses were from a previous study where male and female CC042 mice were fed either a control or high-fat, high-sucrose (HF/HS) diet for 20, 40, or 60 weeks. Associations and mediated relationships bet
