Bioremediation of hexamine and formaldehyde using a radio-tolerant bacterial consortium for efficient pollutant and COD removal.

INTRODUCTION: Hexamine and its by-products (formaldehyde and ammonia) are classified as organic pollutants. Formaldehyde has antibacterial properties, while increased ammonia levels contribute to eutrophication, both of which disrupts microbial communities in aquatic ecosystems. Hexamine is considered a common pollutant released from various industries. METHODS: Culture based analysis in enriched medium resulted in development of bacterial consortium using environmental isolates. RESULTS: A consortium, containing six pure bacterial isolates {SRCHD03 & SRCHD04 (Brevundimonas diminuta), SRCHD0

Hydroamination of Dehydroalanine With Deuterium Incorporation to Access Unnatural 2- and 4-Pyridonyl α-Amino Acids: Evaluation of Their Antibacterial, Antifungal, and Immunomodulatory Activities.

A novel and facile method for the synthesis of unnatural β-pyridonyl α-amino acid derivatives via hydroamination of dehydroalanine (Dha) with 2- and 4-hydroxypyridine was described. The reaction of N,N-diprotected Dha with 2- and 4-hydroxypyrdine proceeded smoothly at room temperature to afford a variety of 2- and 4-pyridonyl amino acids, whereas the reaction of mono N-protected Dha with 2- and 4-hydroxypyridine reacted at 80 °C heating to give corresponding pyridonyl amino acid derivatives. Further, a new family of deuterated β-pyridonyl α-amino acid derivatives has been synthesized using D2O

Molecular Cloning and Functional Identification of the Antimicrobial Peptide Gene Ctri9594 from the Venom of the Scorpion Chaerilus tricostatus.

Scorpion venom is a mixture of bioactive peptides, among which neurotoxins and antimicrobial peptides serve especially vital functions. Scorpion venom peptides in Buthidae species have been well described, but toxic peptides from non-Buthidae species have been under-investigated. Here, an antimicrobial peptide gene, Ctri9594, was cloned and functionally identified from the venom of the scorpion Chaerilus tricostatus. The precursor nucleotide sequence of Ctri9594 is 199 nt in length, including a 43 nt 5' UTR, 115 nt 3' UTR and 210 nt ORF. The ORF encodes 69 amino acid residues, containing a 21

Dietary muramidase degrades bacterial peptidoglycan to NOD-activating muramyl dipeptides and reduces duodenal inflammation in broiler chickens.

Muramidases constitute a superfamily of enzymes that hydrolyse peptidoglycan (PGN) from bacterial cell walls. Recently, a fungal muramidase derived from Acremonium alcalophilum has been shown to increase broiler performance when added as a feed additive. However, the underlying mechanisms of action are not yet identified. Here, we investigated the hypothesis that this muramidase can cleave PGN to muramyl dipeptide (MDP), activating nucleotide-binding oligomerisation domain-containing protein 2 (NOD2) receptors in eukaryotic cells, potentially inducing anti-inflammatory host responses. Using Mi

Functional complementarity in a heavy oil-degrading consortium through cross-feeding, detoxification, pH stability, and transcriptional relief.

Heavy oil bioremediation is challenged by hydrocarbon recalcitrance and toxicity, requiring synergistic microbial consortia. This study formulated a tripartite biodegradation microbial consortium (BMC) comprising Micrococcus luteus BD1, Acinetobacter baumannii subsp. oleum ficedula BD54, and Ochrobactrum oleinvorans BD61, guided by genomic screening and Flux Balance Analysis (FBA). In microcosms, the BMC achieved 77% degradation of heavy oil (16° API) in 15 days, significantly outperforming monocultures. Initially, all strains attack aliphatic fractions, with BD1 operating via monooxygenases a
