Social support and mobility limitation as modifiable predictors of improvement in depressive symptoms in the elderly: results of a national longitudinal study.

Few national longitudinal studies have investigated the predictors of a better depression outcome in geriatric depression. This study examined the predictors of improvement in case-level depressive symptoms in the elderly. In this prospective cohort and population-based study in Taiwan, 206 non-demented and case-level depressed subjects aged 65 and older were interviewed at baseline in 2003 and follow-up in 2007. The independent variables included demographics, chronic medical diseases, and health-related behaviors assessed at baseline. The dependent variable was depressive symptoms, assessed

Powered mobility interventions for very young children with mobility limitations to aid participation and positive development: the EMPoWER evidence synthesis.

BACKGROUND: One-fifth of all disabled children have mobility limitations. Early provision of powered mobility for very young children (aged < 5 years) is hypothesised to trigger positive developmental changes. However, the optimum age at which to introduce powered mobility is unknown. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this project was to synthesise existing evidence regarding the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of powered mobility for very young children, compared with the more common practice of powered mobility provision from the age of 5 years. REVIEW METHODS: The study was planned as a mixed-me

A Metabolite Score of Unintentional Weight Loss Explained a Substantial Proportion of Associated Mortality and Mobility Limitation Risk in a Biracial Older Cohort.

Unintentional weight loss (UWL) is related to mortality and mobility limitation. Here, we aimed to develop a metabolite-based score for UWL and evaluate its prediction performance and explanation value for UWL-related health outcomes. Participants from the Health, Aging and Body Composition (Health ABC) study with available metabolomics and valid follow-ups were included (N = 2286). First, in the derivation group (N = 1200), 27 of the 77 metabolites associated with incident UWL (> 3% annual UWL vs. weight stable) were selected by LASSO-logistic regression. The UWL metabolite score was calculat

Superior Phonon-Limited Exciton Mobility in Lead-Free Two-Dimensional Perovskites.

Tin-based two-dimensional (2D) perovskites are emerging as lead-free alternatives in halide perovskite materials, yet their exciton dynamics and transport remain less understood due to defect scattering. Addressing this, we employed temperature-dependent transient photoluminescence (PL) microscopy to investigate intrinsic exciton transport in three structurally analogous Sn- and Pb-based 2D perovskites. Employing conjugated ligands, we synthesized high-quality crystals with enhanced phase stability at various temperatures. Our results revealed phonon-limited exciton transport in Sn perovskites

Limited Mobility to the Bed Reduces the Chances of Discharge and Increases the Chances of Death in the ICU.

BACKGROUND: Progressive mobility in the ICU has been recommended; however, the definitions of low, moderate, and high mobility in the ICU still diverge between studies. Therefore, our objective was to classify the mobility of the sample from verticalization and active withdrawal from the bed, and from that, to analyze the chances of discharge, death, and readmission to the ICU. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is an observational and retrospective study that consults the medical records of individuals admitted to the ICU of the University Hospital of Sergipe (HU/SE) between August 2017 and August
