Hybridomas were generated by fusing SP2/0 mouse myeloma cells with spleen cells from mice that had been immunized with cultured human melanoma cells. One of the hybridomas secreted a monoclonal IgG1 antibody, 48.7, which binds to a cell surface antigen of cells from human melanomas and compound nevi. BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) wear and damage from retrieved total elbow arthroplasty components and compare in vivo wear with wear produced in vitro.
METHODS: Explanted total elbow components were collected at revision surgery. UHMWPE damage was characterized visually, whereas penetration and wear were quantified using micro-computed tomography and gas pycnometry. Volumetric wear rates were compared with historical hip data, and wear data were compared with reported in vitro wear test data.

Although venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a well-known cause of death in patients with cancer, both its treatment and prevention remain a challenge in daily practice. Direct oral anticoagulants have emerged as safe and efficacious alternatives to vitamin K antagonists in the general population, and recent clinical trials also support their use in select patients with cancer-associated VTE. Despite this, low-molecular-weight heparins (LMWHs), a comparatively ancient class of antithrombotic drugs, remain the anticoagulants of choice in many indications relevant to modern haematology and oncology.

Low-molecular weight heparin (LMWH) is used clinically to treat clotting disorders. As an animal-sourced product, LMWH is a highly heterogeneous mixture, and its anticoagulant activity is not fully reversible by protamine. Furthermore, the reliability of the LMWH supply chain is a concern for regulatory agencies. We demonstrate the synthesis of heparin dodecasaccharides (12-mers) at the gram scale. Low-molecular-weight heparin and acetyl salicylic acid have become an established treatment for unstable angina. A retrospective study on our database of one year was carried out to see what impact preoperative low-molecular-weight heparin versus none had on the postoperative course of 473 patients having coronary surgery exclusively. Apart from the fact that the low-molecular-weight heparin patients had a higher New York Heart Association classification and marginally more grafts, longer bypass and cross-clamp time, the preoperative characteristics and surgery of the two groups were similar.

BACKGROUND: Low-molecular-weight dextran sulfate was tested on an experimental model of urolithiasis induced in rats.
METHODS: Male Wistar rats weighing 250 g had a 15-mg calcium oxalate stone surgically placed into the bladder. A group was sham operated, another group was treated by daily intraperitoneal injection of low-molecular-weight dextran sulfate and the other by daily intraperitoneal saline injection.
