The atomic force microscope can detect the mechanical fingerprints of normal and diseased cells at the single-cell level under physiological conditions. Tenomodulin (Tnmd) is a type II transmembrane protein characteristically expressed in dense connective tissues such as tendons and ligaments. The zinc-dependent potentiating effect of ethanol (EtOH) on insulin-stimulated DNA synthesis was studied with a focus on the possible site of EtOH action and the ability of other alcohols to elicit similar promitogenic effects.
