By means of electrophoresis quantitative estimation of serum protein components were made at various intervals before and after treatment with oxamniquine. During infection of mice with S. mansoni serum protein fractions showed marked alterations. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the in vitro activity of nitroxoline against a molecularly characterized collection of clinical Candida auris isolates.
METHODS: Thirty-five clinical isolates of C. auris from diverse sources representing all five different C. auris clades were included in the study. Nitroxoline activity was assessed using broth microdilution. Additionally, susceptibility testing by disc diffusion was assessed on RPMI-1640 and Müller-Hinton agar plates. Minimal inhibitory concentrations of the antifungals fluconazole, voriconazole, amphotericin B and anidulafungin were determined.

Bacterial biofilms are surface-attached communities of slow-growing or non-replicating bacteria tolerant to conventional antibiotic therapies. This study was done on 45 patients with bilharzial hepatosplenomegaly and active bilharzial infection classified into 3 groups. The first group was given oral oxamniquine 2nd group was given oral praziquantel, the third group was left as control. It was proved that praziquantel gave a remarkable decrease in portal vein diameter and regression of the size of enlarged liver and spleen but oxaminiquine had no significant effect on the portal vein diameter and liver profile.

Visual observation of the motor activity of Schistosoma mansoni kept in vitro showed an increase of activity in the presence of hycanthone (HC). In addition, HC caused a delay in the paralytic effects of carbachol. Similar results were observed in the presence of oxamniquine (OXA). The same pattern of motor activity, however, was shown by HC-resistant worms, by Schistosoma japonicum, and by worms exposed to drug precursors (lucanthone and UK-3883), which are not schistosomicidal in vitro. BACKGROUND: Nitroxoline is an old antibiotic currently approved for the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections. Its mode of action is based on the chelation of bivalent cations, such as zinc.
OBJECTIVES: As zinc plays a central role in the metabolism of Aspergillus spp., we performed antifungal susceptibility testing against Nitroxoline using broth microdilution.
