Psychiatric nurses' attitudes to antipsychotic depots in Hong Kong and comparison with London.

Psychiatric nurses' attitudes to depots have only been explored in the UK. We conducted a cross-sectional attitudinal study for Hong Kong psychiatric nurses and also conducted international comparisons for nurses' views about depots. A pre-existing UK questionnaire on clinicians' attitudes and knowledge regarding depots was updated for the present study. Participants were 98 psychiatric nurses who attended an academic meeting. The majority of respondents had positive views regarding their role in depot administration; most reported that they had sufficient training (84%). However, many did not

Global Voyeurism or Sustainable Ethical Practice?

This is a conceptual article exploring global voyeurism and service, overlaying ethical considerations in service within the profession of forensic nursing. Key elements considered include examining and reflecting on personal motivations, benefits, and consequences of service when viewed through an ethical perspective. Through this article we seek to examine the relationships between poverty tourism and service, while better supporting individual forensic nurses in their quest to align their actions with the ethical and practice comportment standards within the profession of nursing service gl

Reforming licensure pathways for internationally educated nurses in Canada: A comparative analysis of four provinces.

BACKGROUND: Amid longstanding nursing shortages, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, federal, provincial, and territorial governments across Canada prioritized the recruitment of internationally educated nurses (IENs). As a result, nursing regulators were strongly encouraged to implement a range of policy shifts to reduce licensure barriers. The nature and scope of these reforms have varied across jurisdictions. OBJECTIVE: To identify and compare the policy processes, drivers, and outcomes of IEN licensure reforms in the Canadian jurisdictions of British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Nova

Self-perceived competence of nurses working in digestive endoscopy units: a nationwide cross-sectional survey.

BACKGROUND: Gastrointestinal endoscopy is an increasingly complex clinical environment in which nurses play a pivotal role throughout the patient pathway. Although international guidelines and curricula clearly define the expected competencies of endoscopy nurses, their competence profile has not been consistently described across healthcare settings, particularly from the nurses' own perspective and across both technical and non-technical items. The aim of this study is to describe the self-perceived competence of nurses working in digestive endoscopy units and to explore its association with

A narrative review of nursing in Saudi Arabia: prospects for improving social determinants of health for the female workforce.

INTRODUCTION: Nurses represent the backbone of global healthcare systems where women typically deliver care and men lead. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) highly relies on foreign female nurses despite Saudisation policies designed to localize its workforce. Yet, in the context of an ambitious 2016-30 national health transformation program to modernize public health in a high-income and rapidly developing country, intersectional inequalities persist for migrant and local nurses in KSA. There are challenges in the specialisms of palliative and end-of-life care where there is a weak public and

The Paradox of Workforce Self-Sufficiency: Policy Narratives, Professional Identity and Internationally Educated Nurses in the United Kingdom.

The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan positions international recruitment as essential for present stability while projecting a future of reduced structural dependence on internationally educated nurses. This tension, conceptualised as the paradox of self-sufficiency, forms the focus of this study. Drawing on a critical qualitative evidence synthesis, eight UK policy documents were analysed using Bacchi's 'What's the Problem Represented to Be?' (WPR) framework alongside thematic synthesis of 17 qualitative studies, sensitised by Social Identity Theory and Ontological Security. Policy analysis revea

Early Adaptation of Newly Recruited Filipino Nurses in Singapore: A Qualitative Inquiry.

INTRODUCTION: Nurse migration is well-established, yet most research focuses on Asian nurses migrating to Western countries. Singapore's multicultural context, with its large international nursing workforce from the Philippines, offers an intra-Asian perspective. This study examined the early adaptation of newly recruited Filipino nurses in Singapore. METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted in a medical institution. Thirteen nurses were interviewed. Data were thematically analysed. RESULTS: The nurses navigated Singapore's multicultural society to overcome the sociolinguistic challenges.

[Burnout symptoms in Austrian student nurses in their third year of training].

Burnout is considered a major negative outcome of work related distress in social and health care services, especially in nursing. In the present study 179 student nurses in their third year of training and 47 registered nurses, all working in the Austrian province of Salzburg, were examined with the Maslach Burnout Inventory and the Satisfaction With Life Scale. Compared on a regional and national level, burnout scores of student nurses were equal to those of registered nurses and workers in social and nursing professions. The specific stressors of education and training lead to strain compar

The evolving landscape of doctor and nurse mobility in the OECD since 2000 with a focus on Canada.

BACKGROUND: OECD health systems face rising demand for health workers, increasingly relying on international recruitment of doctors and nurses. Growing dependence raises "brain drain" concerns, particularly when recruits originate from WHO Health Workforce Support and Safeguards List countries. OBJECTIVE: This study examines how mobility to OECD countries has evolved over two decades, focusing on Canada, and considers implications for destination and origin countries. METHODS: Using harmonised data on foreign-born and foreign-trained doctors and nurses, we analyse stocks and annual inflows a

World views on shortage in nursing resource: Challenges and opportunities.

BACKGROUND: Shortage in nursing resource results from the combination of a lack of nurses, an increased patient volume and workload, and other factors. This seems to be a worldwide phenomenon, leading to multiple health care related challenges and a decreased quality of care, but is different in extent in high- vs. low-income countries. An international perspective can alleviate challenges to keep our patients safe through increasing our health workers' safety. PURPOSE & METHOD: To exchange experiences with the shortage in nursing resource globally, an international online conference event wa
