Currently in the United States, there are fragmented services available for the aftercare of these patients to ensure continuum of care, promote healing, and avoid re-entry into the acute care system. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of a nurse practitioner in geriatrics, working in the emergency department of a tertiary referral hospital, to assess high-risk elderly patients comprehensively. Review of recent evidence with translation to practice for the advanced practice nurse (APN) role is presented using a case study module for "Clinically Significant Differences in Acute Pain Measured on Self-Report Pain Scales in Children." The current awareness service, Hot Topics, continues to promote and enhance library resources and services, support evidence-based practice, and librarian participation in research projects and studies. Participant feedback from across three hospitals reflects that the service, in part, positively impacts education, personal/professional development, and evidence-based practice projects. The strategic expansion of the service to a fourth hospital is a continuation of the librarians' support of both the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet and Joint Commission reaccreditation efforts.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of different ways of referring patients to an osteoporosis assessment service at an orthopaedic fracture clinic of a hospital in the UK.
