Assessment of health effects of potato crop phytopharmaceuticals and storage products in a murine model.

Potatoes are among the most widely consumed staple foods worldwide, but their cultivation and storage frequently involve multiple phytopharmaceutical products (PPPs), raising concerns about the health risks of dietary pesticide residues. The health effects of multi-residue PPPs used in potato cultivation were assessed in an in vivo murine model, involving 36 mice, and evaluated through omics analyses. Two field cultivation methods (conventional and organic) and two post-harvest storage conditions (using 1,4-dimethylnaphthalene and mint essential oil as sprout inhibitor treatments) were conside

Postprandial Effects of Salmon Fishmeal and Whey on Metabolic Markers in Serum and Gene Expression in Liver Cells.

Fish is considered an important part of a healthy diet, in part due to the content of long chain omega-3 fatty acids. However, both lean and fatty fish have beneficial health effects, suggesting that micronutrients and proteins may play a role. In a randomised, controlled, cross-over trial, five healthy male participants consumed 5.2 g of protein from either salmon fishmeal or whey. Blood samples were taken before and 30 and 60 min after intake. The concentration of glucose, lipids, hormones and metabolites, including 28 different amino acids and derivatives, were measured in serum or plasma.

Nutrigenetic Investigations in Preeclampsia.

Background: Preeclampsia is a leading cause of pregnancy-related maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Although its precise cause and prevention remain unclear, risk factors such as overweight and inadequate nutrient intake (e.g., calcium, folic acid, and vitamin D) are known to increase its incidence. Recent research has focused on the genetic predisposition to preeclampsia, identifying polymorphisms that may affect enzyme or receptor function. This study aims to review existing literature examining the relationship between genetic polymorphisms, BMI (body mass index), and nutrient leve

Modulating fatty acid profile of egg yolk: Mechanistic insights into the development of functional eggs.

Modification of egg yolk fatty acid composition has emerged as a major strategy for developing functional eggs with enhanced nutritional value and potential health benefits for consumers. Although extensive research has demonstrated that dietary interventions can substantially alter yolk lipid composition, current knowledge remains fragmented because nutritional, physiological, molecular, and technological factors are frequently investigated in isolation. This review proposes an integrated mechanistic framework describing egg yolk fatty acid remodeling as a coordinated biological process exten

Nutritional pathways from treatment to management of sarcopenia in patients with gastric cancer: a narrative review.

Sarcopenia, characterized by the progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength, represents a significant clinical concern among patients undergoing gastric cancer surgery. Postoperative individuals are particularly vulnerable due to gastrointestinal dysfunction, reduced nutrient intake, systemic inflammation, and treatment-induced metabolic stress. This condition is associated with higher complication rates, delayed recovery, chemotherapy intolerance, and decreased survival, underscoring the importance of early detection and effective nutritional management. This narrative review integ

Gut microbial signatures in poultry under low-protein diets and lysine restriction: implications for precision nutrition.

Three key signatures - microbial, nutritional, and epigenetic - are pivotal in nutrigenomics, mediating poultry responses to nutritional signals, such as low-protein diets (LPDs) and lysine restriction (LR). These multidimensional signatures - encompassing bacterial, archaeal, and fungal taxonomy, functional genes, and metabolomic profiles (short-chain fatty acids; SCFAs) - orchestrate host metabolism, immunity, and feed conversion ratio (FCR). This PRISMA-ScR scoping review synthesizes multi-omics evidence showing that LPDs shift cecal fermentation toward saccharolytic pathways, enriching but

The role of noninvasive cardiovascular testing, applied clinical nutrition and nutritional supplements in the prevention and treatment of coronary heart disease.

Numerous clinical trials suggest that we have reached a limit in our ability to decrease the incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) utilizing the traditional diagnostic evaluation, prevention and treatment strategies for the top five cardiovascular risk factors of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, obesity and smoking. About 80% of heart disease (heart attacks, angina, coronary heart disease and congestive heart failure) can be prevented by optimal nutrition, optimal exercise, optimal weight and body composition, mild alcohol intake and avoiding

Nutrigenetic and Epigenetic Mechanisms of Maternal Nutrition-Induced Glucolipid Metabolism Changes in the Offspring.

Maternal nutrition during pregnancy regulates the offspring's metabolic homeostasis, including insulin sensitivity and the metabolism of glucose and lipids. The fetus undergoes a crucial period of plasticity in the uterus; metabolic changes in the fetus during pregnancy caused by maternal nutrition not only influence fetal growth and development but also have a long-term or even life-long impact for the offspring. Epigenetic modifications, such as DNA methylation, histone modification, and non-coding RNAs, play important roles in intergenerational and transgenerational effects. In this context

Diabetic threesome (hyperglycaemia, renal function and nutrition) and advanced glycation end products: evidence for the multiple-hit agent?

Complex chemical processes termed non-enzymic glycation that operate in vivo and similar chemical interactions between sugars and proteins that occur during thermal processing of food (known as the Maillard reaction) are one of the interesting examples of a potentially-harmful interaction between nutrition and disease. Non-enzymic glycation comprises a series of reactions between sugars, alpha-oxoaldehydes and other sugar derivatives and amino groups of amino acids, peptides and proteins leading to the formation of heterogeneous moieties collectively termed advanced glycation end products (AGE

Molecular Mechanisms Associated with Metabolic Dysfunction: Contributions of Nutritional Genomics.

Nutritional genomics has expanded our understanding of how dietary exposures interact with genetic and epigenetic mechanisms involved in metabolic dysfunction. In this context, metabolic dysfunction associated with excessive visceral adiposity arises from a multifaceted interaction between systemic inflammation, insulin resistance, and inter-individual biological susceptibility. Obesity, particularly when driven by diets rich in saturated fatty acids, disrupts intestinal homeostasis, thereby triggering metabolic endotoxemia and contributing to low-grade systemic inflammation and adipose tissue

Cow's Milk: A Benefit for Human Health? Omics Tools and Precision Nutrition for Lactose Intolerance Management.

Cow's milk (CM) is a healthy food consumed worldwide by individuals of all ages. Unfortunately, "lactase-deficient" individuals cannot digest milk's main carbohydrate, lactose, depriving themselves of highly beneficial milk proteins like casein, lactoalbumin, and lactoglobulin due to lactose intolerance (LI), while other individuals develop allergies specifically against these proteins (CMPA). The management of these conditions differs, and an inappropriate diagnosis or treatment may have significant implications for the patients, especially if they are infants or very young children, resultin

Nutritional interventions to prevent and treat osteoarthritis. Part II: focus on micronutrients and supportive nutraceuticals.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common cause of musculoskeletal disability in the elderly, and it places an enormous economic burden on society, which will remain a major health care challenge with an aging population. Management of OA is primarily focused on palliative relief using agents such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) and analgesics. However, such an approach is limited by a narrow therapeutic focus that fails to address the progressive and multimodal nature of OA. Given the favorable safety profile of most nutritional interventions, identifying disease-modifying pharma
