Peripheral developing odontoma in newborn. Report of two cases and literature review.

Inflammation plays an important role in the development of many obesity-related diseases. This study aimed to investigate the effect of ezetimibe on inflammation and myocardial remodeling in obese rats. A rat model of obesity was established, and myocardial damage was examined by transmission electron microscopy and Masson staining. Twenty obese rats were divided into two groups (n=10): obese group and ezetimibe group. Ten SD rats were used as controls. Western blot was performed to monitor the expression of P-p38MAPK and interleukin (IL)-6. Immunohistochemical staining was used to monitor the

A compound composite odontoma associated with unerupted permanent incisor--a case report.

Odontomas are the most common type of odontogenic tumors and generally they are asymptomatic. Frequently it may interfere with the eruption of the teeth. This is a case report of a compound composite odontoma in a 9 year old girl, which results in failure of eruption of the permanent upper right central incisor while the contralateral tooth had erupted. A calcified mass was seen in the radiograph and was provisionally diagnosed as odontoma following which the odontoma was enucleated. Routine follow up was done for more than a year and no recurrence was seen. This case report indicates that ear

Calcifying Odontogenic Cyst Associated with Complex Odontoma: Report of a Rare Case.

Calcifying odontogenic cyst, also known as Gorlin cyst is a rare benign cystic lesion primarily found in the jawbones, accounting less than 1% of odontogenic cysts. It can be associated with odontogenic tumors such as odontomas. We report a rare case of COC associated with complex odontoma in a young patient and discuss its clinical features, diagnosis, and treatment options. An 18-year-old female patient presented with a painless radiopaque lesion of the right mandibular bone at Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery department. Radiographs revealed irregular tooth-like structures in the canine-premo

Surgical management of compound odontoma associated with unerupted tooth: a case report.

Compound odontoma has been reported to be the most common of all odontogenic neoplasms and tumor- like lesions. It is a slow-growing, asymptomatic neoplasms found incidentally during a routine radiography examination. In general, the clinical indicators of odontoma may include eruption disturbance (non-eruption of permanent teeth, retention of deciduous teeth), expansion of the cortical bone, teeth malposition and pain. In this case, the presence of odontoma prevented the physiological eruption of permanent mandible incisor. We describe the surgical procedure to remove a compound odontoma of 2

An impacted malformed primary maxillary central incisor diagnosed as a compound odontoma.

An odontoma is usually found in the surrounding area of the unerupted permanent tooth bud and rarely adjacent to the primary central incisor This report presents a case of an unerupted malformed primary central incisor, histologically diagnosed as a compound odontoma. A 5.5 year-old healthy boy presented with an unerupted maxillary left primary central incisor and mild gingival buccal swelling. No history of traumatic injury was recorded. Radiological examination revealed a tooth-like mass with a partially developed root and a malformed crown in the area of the left primary central incisor Del

Odontoma of the middle ear: case report with 25-year follow-up.

We report the 25-year follow-up on the first reported case of odontoma in the middle ear. Diagnosis of odontoma had been made on the basis of radiography films that showed a middle ear mass with multiple toothlike areas of radiopacity. No clinical intervention was recommended. At 25-year follow-up, audiometry showed progressive mixed hearing loss on the affected side and mild ipsilateral sensorineural hearing loss. Computed tomography better characterized the discrete mass, which was shaped similar to a dental crown. To avoid jeopardizing cochlear and facial nerve function, no surgical interve

Calcifying odontogenic cyst associated with compound odontoma: a study on undemineralized material.

In a minority of cases of calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) it is possible to observe the formation of dental hard tissues in the cyst wall. The use of undemineralized sections has allowed an evaluation of the mineralized tissues normally lost with the use of demineralizing agents. All the dental hard tissues presented a high degree of morpho- and histodifferentiation. The histochemical staining for calcium salts (von Kossa) showed the presence of areas of low mineralization in the portion of the lesion, where the tissue maturation was not complete. In conclusion the appearance of the dental h

Diminutive compound odontoma in a child: a case report with emphasis on early detection.

The odontoma is regarded as a hamartomatous process of the jaws. Most are discovered as an incidental radiographic finding, averaging 15 mm in size. This report describes a case of a diminutive odontoma that was surgically removed before the onset of eruptive and pathologic consequences. A compilation of documented complications and syndromes associated with odontomas is also presented.

A rare case report of an adenomatoid odontogenic tumor associated with odontoma in the maxilla.

INTRODUCTION: The adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) associated with odontoma has been described as a new entity with overlapping features of adenomatoid-like structures and odontoma. Presentation of the case: We report the second case of AOT associated with odontoma in the posterior maxillary region. A 22-year-old patient presented expansion of the vestibular and palatine cortical wall of maxilla. Radiographic examination and computed tomography confirmed erosion of maxillary walls, root resorption, displacement of a neighboring tooth and radiopacities within the lesion. Histopathological an

Postoperative prognosis of unerupted teeth after removal of supernumerary teeth or odontomas.

INTRODUCTION: Impacted teeth do not always erupt spontaneously after removal of supernumerary teeth or odontomas. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of several variables on eruption of impacted teeth in children with supernumeraries or odontomas. METHODS: The sample consisted of 53 patients with 69 impacted teeth; the supernumeraries or odontomas were removed without other interventions. The patients were identified retrospectively and followed until the impacted teeth erupted to their correct positions or until orthodontic traction was started. RESULTS: Loss of space, a sec

[Giant complex odontoma with infection of mandible: a case report and literature review].

Giant complex odontoma of the mandible is a relatively rare odontogenic tumor. This article reported the clinical diagnosis and treatment process of a 42-year-old male patient with a giant complex odontoma in the left mandible accompanied by infection, along with a discussion based on relevant literature. Complex odontomas typically were asymptomatic and grew slowly, but giant odontomas (diameter >3 cm) may cause tooth displacement, mandibular swelling, or even infection. The uniqueness of this case lies in the odontoma penetrating the oral mucosa, leading to localized infection, which increas

Unveiling the Enigma of Multiple Odontomas in Pediatric Dentistry: A Rare Clinical Presentation.

Odontomas are the most common tooth-like hamartomatous odontogenic tumours, which are usually asymptomatic and found on routine radiographs. Odontomas are commonly classified into two types: complex and compound odontomas. The most common consequences of odontoma are tooth impaction and/or delayed tooth eruption. The present report describes a unique case of multiple complex odontoma in the anterior maxillary region in a 12-year-old young patient, which is a rare occurrence. The uniqueness of this case report is in the location, number, and complexity of the complex tumours. Early diagnosis, p

Timing of Surgical Removal of Odontoma in a Growing Orthodontic Patient: A Case Report.

In patients with skeletal malocclusion and odontoma, the prioritization of treatment is ofgreat importance. Ifsurgical removal of odontoma is postponed, the probability of adjacent teeth impaction increases. In this case, skeletal treatment was performed before odontoma rgery due to concerns about facial appearance and the patient's fear of surgery, and therefore adjacent tooth failed to erupt.
