How various design decisions on matching individuals in relationships affect the outcomes of microsimulations of sexually transmitted infection epidemics.

Microsimulations are increasingly used to estimate the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). These models consist of agents which represent a sexually active population. Matching agents into sexual relationships is computationally intensive and presents modellers with difficult design decisions: how to select which partnerships between agents break up, which agents enter a partnership market, and how to pair agents in the partnership market. The aim of this study was to analyse the effect of these design decisions on STI prevalence. We compared two strategies for selecting whic

The Views and Experiences of Families and Registered Nurses Regarding Hospital Care and Support of Children With Intellectual Disabilities: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Children with intellectual disabilities experience poorer health outcomes and persistent inequities in hospital care. No previous review has integrated perspectives of families, registered nurses (RNs), nursing students and nurse educators to examine how family partnerships, workforce preparation and clinical practice intersect. This review synthesises evidence on hospital care and support for children with intellectual disabilities. METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, four databases (CINAHL, MEDLINE, APA PsycINFO and Embase) were searched from inception to October 2025. Study q

Ensuring equitable engagement in global health education: Rwandan perspectives and observations about learner exchange with high-income countries.

INTRODUCTION: Global health originated from colonial and tropical medicine, which served the interests of colonial powers. Despite efforts to address this legacy, the field still faces challenges in unequal partnerships between high-income (HICs) and low-income and middle-income (LMICs) countries. Activists push for paradigm shifts emphasising health equity, decolonisation and partnerships based on solidarity and justice. The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth aligns with these movements, focusing its global health programmes on equity. METHODS: This study, employing ethnographic methods

Nurses' and parents' perceptions of participation and partnership in caring for a hospitalized child.

A descriptive study was undertaken to determine whether parents were able to participate in the care of their hospitalized child and work in partnership with the nurses. The study utilized method triangulation and was conducted in two phases. In phase one a postal survey of 65 nurses was undertaken in three children's wards within an NHS trust hospital, while in the second phase, 12 in-depth interviews were completed with parents in their own homes following their child's discharge from hospital. The quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics and the qualitative data were sub

Evaluating parent-led research: the power of partnership and arts-based knowledge mobilization.

BACKGROUND: Effective knowledge mobilization (KM) and meaningful partnerships can improve research relevance, quality, and impact. While guidance for effective KM tool development and successful research partnerships exists, practices are not consistently described or evaluated. To address this gap, we applied a mixed-methods approach to (i) describe and evaluate a set of tailored KM tools and (ii) assess parent-partnership, within a study on caregiver recruitment networks. METHODS: A custom survey, distributed to participants of the primary study, was used to evaluate KM tools. The Public an

Introducing a safeguarding culture in research institutions: a multi-national partnership.

BACKGROUND: Research projects have a responsibility to safeguard their staff and research participants by treating them with respect and dignity and protecting them from harm. This is especially important in international development partnerships where substantial imbalances in power relations, resources and research governance structures are common. Demands for evidence and sharing of good practice about how international research partnerships can enhance safeguarding cultures in partners' institutions are increasing. However, these partnerships are missing opportunities to amplify their proj

Perceptions of Proactive Palliative Care Integration Among Pediatric Hematopoietic Cell Transplant Providers: A Pilot Study.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) conveys significant risk of mortality, morbidity, impaired quality of life, and multifactorial distress. One potential strategy for improving experience and relieving suffering is proactive specialty palliative care (SPC) utilization. However, SPC is not routinely incorporated into pediatric HCT. One barrier to SPC integration is unknown pediatric HCT provider perceptions of SPC services, particularly among providers with lived experience working within a collaborative HCT-SPC partnership. OBJECTIVE: This single-institution pilot

Implications of a paediatrician-psychologist tandem for sickle cell disease care and impact on cognitive functioning.

UNLABELLED: Sickle cell disease (SCD), a life-threatening chronic disease, necessitates a paediatric treatment plan that considers the influence of psychological, family and intercultural factors. At the Louis-Mourier Hospital (APHP) in Colombes, France, we introduced an original paediatric-psychological partnership where a clinical psychologist accompanies the paediatrician at programmed consultations. We evaluated children and their parents treated in Colombes and in two other paediatric units using standardized culture-free tools and clinical interviews to evaluate the psychological repercu

A mixed-methods approach to understanding partnership experiences and outcomes of projects from an integrated knowledge translation funding model in rehabilitation.

BACKGROUND: Integrated knowledge translation (IKT) can optimize the uptake of research evidence into clinical practice by incorporating knowledge users as equal partners in the entire research process. Although several studies have investigated stakeholder involvement in research, the literature on partnerships between researchers and clinicians in rehabilitation and their impact on clinical practice is scarce. This study described the individual research projects, the outcomes of these projects on clinical practice and the partnership experiences of an initiative that funds IKT projects co-le

Designing for generalism, courage, and systems: a curriculum scholarship account of an integrated family medicine and primary care block.

BACKGROUND: Pre-clerkship Family Medicine teaching often covers content well but does too little with experiential immersion, structured reflection, and the open engagement with clinical uncertainty that defines generalist work in practice. We describe the partnership-based redesign of the COM353 Family Medicine and Primary Care block at Alfaisal University, Riyadh, with student-reported outcomes from the first delivered cohort. The paper is offered as a worked account of how academic-academic and academic-service partnerships can themselves become curriculum. PEDAGOGICAL FRAMEWORK: The redes

A survey of the management of gout in primary care.

There is no information available regarding current practice and standards in management of gout in Irish general practice. This study aims to assess current practice in the context of the 2006 EULAR evidence based recommendations for diagnosis and management of gout. A 20 point questionnaire was circulated to all 170 general practitioners in the North Dublin GP Partnership assessing frequency of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions undertaken. 91% of practitioners manage gout exclusively in primary care. 89% make a diagnosis on clinical grounds and 77% routinely measure serum urate. The safety and efficacy of mobility programs for the ventilated patient and the ability to improve outcomes related to immobility of the critically ill are well documented in the literature. Early mobility programs have been proven safe and effective in study. However, a lack of literature describing application of the therapy and integration at the bedside exists. This article describes the multidisciplinary change process and partnerships necessary to provide the innovation of early mobility to ventilated intensive care unit patients. Early mobility targets ventilated patients upon admission

The Detroit Community-Academic Urban Research Center: development, implementation, and evaluation.

There is increasing research evidence that stressors in the social and physical environment (e.g., poverty, inadequate housing, air pollution, and racism) are associated with poor health outcomes. Given the complex set of determinants of health status, the disproportionate burden of disease experienced within marginalized communities, and the limited effectiveness of traditional prevention research, particularly within communities of color, there have been growing calls for more comprehensive and participatory approaches to public health research and practice. The purpose of this article is to
