Case Report: Staged multidisciplinary nursing management of grade 4 oral mucositis after pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Severe oral mucositis (OM) after pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) becomes especially challenging when complicated by pancytopenia, platelet transfusion refractoriness, bleeding, and high nutritional risk, which also make oral care hard to deliver. We report a 13-year-old girl with transfusion-dependent α-thalassemia who developed OM on day +6 after unrelated-donor HSCT and progressed to World Health Organization grade 4 on day +17, with severe ulceration, pseudomembrane, trismus, inability to eat, bleeding, and anxiety. The case focuses on how a staged, multidisciplinar

Nurses' experiences and perceived needs in managing chemotherapy-induced mucositis in pediatric oncology: A qualitative exploratory study toward developing an empowerment-based nursing model.

BACKGROUND: Chemotherapy-induced mucositis remains one of the most distressing complications in pediatric oncology, causing severe pain, malnutrition, and interruptions in treatment. Nurses play a pivotal role not only in clinical management but also in supporting and empowering parents, particularly mothers, as primary caregivers. However, little is known about nurses' lived experiences and their perceived needs in empowering parents to manage mucositis effectively. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore pediatric oncology nurses' experiences and perceived needs in managing mucositis and eng

Nurse-Led Implementation of Evidence-Based Peripheral Intravenous Catheter Care in Pediatrics: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) complications persist in pediatric settings, creating an urgent need for systematic nurse-led practice change. OBJECTIVE: This study explored how nurses facilitated the implementation of an updated evidence-based PIVC insertion protocol through the lens of the integrated Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Services (i-PARIHS) framework. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive design was used. Written reflective narratives from 9 nurses were analyzed using hybrid thematic analysis, deductively mapped to i-PARIHS constructs. RESU

Assessment and Management of Pain and Fever in Pediatric Patients in the Emergency Setting: A Proposed Flowchart for the Triage Nurse.

Background: The nurse-initiated administration of medications, such as paracetamol and ibuprofen, at the time of triage may provide the opportunity to treat pediatric patients more quickly. We aimed to create practical flowcharts that can be used by all EDs with a specific focus on the nurse-initiated administration of medications to optimize the assessment and management of pain and fever in pediatric patients. Methods: Three regional expert meetings were held with a restricted working group composed of three chairmen and a wider working group composed of Directors of Pediatric EDs and Direct

Point-of-Care Ultrasound for Pediatric Endotracheal Tube Placement Confirmation by Advanced Practice Transport Nurses.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify which point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) techniques and sonographic signs were reliably acquired and interpreted by transport nurses for the confirmation of endotracheal tube placement in children. METHODS: We developed and assessed a multimodal POCUS training curriculum for transport nurses that evaluated 5 sonographic signs using 3 scanning techniques. RESULTS: Twenty-one transport nurses were enrolled in the curriculum. The mean scores (95% confidence interval [CI]) of the knowledge test were 82% (95% CI, 63%-93%), 88% (95% CI, 68%-95%), and 74% (95%

Experiences and challenges of pediatric intensive care unit nurses in Iran: a qualitative content analysis study.

PURPOSE: Pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) are demanding places to work. Nurses there provide complex, continuous care to critically ill children and support distressed families, often with too few staff and limited resources. In Iran, little is known about how PICU nurses experience these pressures. This study explored their experiences and considered how these challenges may affect nurses' well-being and the quality and safety of care. PROCEDURES: We used conventional content analysis, following Graneheim and Lundman. Fifteen nurses were recruited by purposive maximum variation samplin
