Heterointerface-Driven Combustion Catalysis for Concentrated Heat Release of Ammonium Perchlorate Over Cu-BDC-NH2@TpPa.

Combustion catalysts commonly improve the burning performance of composite solid propellants by lowering the thermal decomposition temperature of ammonium perchlorate (AP) and increasing AP heat release. However, heat release over a narrow temperature range is also critical for ignition response and regulation of the burning rate. To address this gap, we propose a concentrated heat release strategy for AP catalysis. This strategy is implemented using the Cu-BDC-NH2@TpPa heterostructure (Cu-BDC-NH2 = copper 2-aminoterephthalate; TpPa is formed by Tp, 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol, and Pa, p-phe

Biochar-Based Single-Atom Cobalt Catalyst for Efficient Thermal Decomposition of Ammonium Perchlorate: Preparation, Performance and Mechanism.

The thermal decomposition performance of ammonium perchlorate (AP) is a key factor in regulating the combustion of composite solid propellants, and its catalytic decomposition process is considered a typical multiphase catalytic process. The exposure of catalytic centers during multiphase catalysis is a key factor affecting catalytic performance. In response to the problem of low atomic utilization efficiency of traditional metal oxide catalysts, this study successfully prepared nitrogen-doped carbon-supported single-atom cobalt catalyst (SACo-PC-X) using the "zinc volatilization pore formatio

Hollow NiCo-LDH Nanocage Derived From ZIF-67 as an Efficient Catalyst for the Thermal Decomposition of Ammonium Perchlorate.

Heterogeneous catalysis achieves efficient thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) by creating abundant catalytically active sites and optimizing mass transfer and diffusion processes. Based on this, hollow nickel-cobalt-layered double hydroxide (H-NiCo-LDH) nanocages derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were successfully synthesized using an etching-deposition-growth strategy. The hollow structure and surface mesopores of H-NiCo-LDH not only expose more abundant catalytically active sites but also enhance the mass transfer and diffusion efficiency of gas-phase intermediate

Unveiling the Contamination of Thiocyanate, Perchlorate, and Chlorate in Edible Microalgae: Detection, Distribution, and Risk Assessment in Sustainable Food Sources.

With the growing interest in microalgae as a sustainable food source, concerns about potential chemical contaminants in these products have emerged. In this study, a sensitive and reliable LC-MS/MS method was developed for the simultaneous detection of thiocyanate, perchlorate, and chlorate in edible microalgae samples. The method was validated with excellent linearity (R2 > 0.998), low detection limits (LOD: 1-8 μg/kg), quantification limits (LOQ: 4-26 μg/kg), and high recovery rates (75-101.9%) across different sample types. We collected a total of 77 microalgae products based on the availab

Serum levels of perchlorate and chlorate in pregnant women from south China and the related health risk with thyroid function.

Perchlorate and chlorate are recognized as ubiquitously inorganic pollutants inenvrionment owing to their high solubility in water and resistance to degradation. Previous studies have confirmed the potential adverse effects of perchlorate and chlorate on human thyroid function, along with implications for fetal growth and development. The fetus grows and develops pregnant women's womb and absorbs nutrients from her body. However, there is still limited information on prenatal exposure to perchlorate and chlorate and the related health risks, especially in China. In this study, a total of 430 s

Radioactive iodide (131 I-) excretion profiles in response to potassium iodide (KI) and ammonium perchlorate (NH4ClO4) prophylaxis.

Radioactive iodide ((131)I-) protection studies have focused primarily on the thyroid gland and disturbances in the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis. The objective of the current study was to establish (131)I- urinary excretion profiles for saline, and the thyroid protectants, potassium iodide (KI) and ammonium perchlorate over a 75 hour time-course. Rats were administered (131)I- and 3 hours later dosed with either saline, 30 mg/kg of NH(4)ClO(4) or 30 mg/kg of KI. Urinalysis of the first 36 hours of the time-course revealed that NH(4)ClO(4) treated animals excreted significantly more (131

Effects of maternal exposure to ammonium perchlorate on thyroid function and the expression of thyroid-responsive genes in Japanese quail embryos.

Perchlorate, a known thyroid disruptor, is deposited in eggs of exposed female birds, raising concerns that the embryos from these eggs may become hypothyroid, which may in turn affect the development and function of thyroid-dependent organs. We hypothesized that exposure to ammonium perchlorate (AP) would decrease hen and embryonic thyroid function and affect the expression of thyroid-responsive genes in embryonic brain and liver. Laying Japanese quail hens were treated with 2000 mg/l or 4000 mg/l AP in drinking water. Thyroid status and expression of thyroid-responsive genes were examined in

Diffusion coefficients of C60 and C60- in benzonitrile and dichloromethane solutions containing tetrabutylammonium perchlorate, measured by potential-step chronoamperometry.

The diffusion coefficients of C(60) in dichloromethane and benzonitrile solutions containing 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium perchlorate were determined by single potential-step chronoamperometry at small disk electrodes. The diffusion coefficients of C(60) were obtained by curve fitting of the chronoamperograms to a theoretical equation by Shoup and Szabo. The values were (1.4 +/- 0.3) x 10(-9) and (4.1 +/- 0.3) x 10(-10) m(2) s(-1), respectively (the errors are 95% confidence limits). The diffusion coefficients of C(60)(-) in these solutions were measured by double potential-step chronoamperometry.

The iodide perchlorate discharge test in women with previous post-partum thyroiditis: relationship to sonographic appearance and thyroid function.

BACKGROUND: Post-partum thyroid disease occurs in 50% of anti-thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibody positive women (detected at 16 weeks' gestation) and is characterized by a transient episode of hyper, hypo or hyper-hypothyroidism. In approximately 20% of these women the hypothyroidism is permanent. However, the extent of long-term thyroid dysfunction, possibly mediated by immune attack, in those anti-TPO Ab + ve women who have had only transient or no thyroid dysfunction during the postpartum period is not clear. OBJECTIVE: We have therefore studied the frequency of iodide organification defect

Towards activity-level interpretation in forensic explosives investigations: Studying perchlorate trace transfer from flash powder.

Flash powder, typically a 70:30 w/w mixture of potassium perchlorate and aluminium powder, is currently the most frequently encountered explosive material in the Netherlands, accounting for hundreds of attacks per year. Perchlorate is a characteristic analytical marker that, even when present at low concentrations, can indicate an individual's handling of flash powder. To enable explosives experts to move beyond mere identification towards activity-level evaluations, the Netherlands Forensic Institute has initiated research on the transfer, persistence, prevalence, and recovery (TPPR) of perch

Investigating the Photochemical Properties of Cytosine and Thymine Under Mars-Like Conditions: Effect of UV Radiation and Calcium Perchlorate.

Mars missions actively search for organic matter as potential biosignatures. Yet harsh conditions at the surface, including unfiltered ultraviolet (UV) light above 190 nm and oxidizing agents such as perchlorates, challenge the preservation of compounds relevant to astrobiology, such as nucleobases. Since current instruments primarily analyze samples from the uppermost surface layer, understanding the stability of organic matter under Mars-like surface conditions is essential. Nucleobases have interesting photochemical properties, as they can dimerize under UV light. Previous work showed that

Graphene/Fe3O4/CuO Nanocomposite as an Evaluation of Enhanced Thermal Decomposition of Ammonium Perchlorate via the Ultrasonic-Assisted Method.

Graphene/Fe3O4/CuO nanocomposites were successfully synthesized using an ultrasonic-assisted method, with Fe3O4 and CuO nanoparticles (10 to 20 nm in size) uniformly distributed on graphene sheets. The synthesis process was optimized through X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and the nanocomposites were further characterized for morphology, elemental distribution, specific surface area, and bonding dynamics. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) revealed that adding 2 and 5 wt % of the composite reduced the thermal decomposition temperatures of ammonium perchlorate (AP) by 86.8 and 91.2 °C, d

Associations of Urinary Perchlorate, Nitrate, and Thiocyanate with Female Infertility and Mediation of Obesity: Insights from NHANES 2013-2018.

Classified as endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), perchlorate, nitrate, and thiocyanate have been implicated with obesity and reproductive disorders. This study used three cycles of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES 2013-2018); 813 women of reproductive age were finally included. We used multivariable logistic regression to analyze the associations between the three anions and obesity and infertility. Subsequently, we performed mediation analysis to explore the potential mediating effect of obesity on infertility in association with anion exposure. Increased conce

Effects of sodium perchlorate and 6-propylthiouracil on metamorphosis and thyroid gland histopathology in the European common frog (Rana temporaria).

Several chemicals have been identified as thyroid hormone axis disrupting chemicals (THADCs) able to interfere with the thyroid hormone system during fetal life and early life stages, thereby impairing neurodevelopment in mammals and inducing development and growth disorders in fish and amphibians. However, identification of THADCs is particularly challenging, and thyroid modalities are currently only assessed in vivo by mammalian and amphibian tests. The aquatic African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis/tropicalis) is the model species of the amphibian test guidelines developed by the OECD and the

Perchlorate transport and inhibition of the sodium iodide symporter measured with the yellow fluorescent protein variant YFP-H148Q/I152L.

Perchlorate is an environmental contaminant that impairs thyroid function by interacting with the sodium iodide symporter (NIS), the transporter responsible for iodide uptake in the thyroid gland. Perchlorate is well known as a competitive inhibitor of iodide transport by NIS, and recent evidence demonstrates that NIS can also transport perchlorate. In this study, we evaluated the yellow fluorescent protein (YFP) variant YFP-H148Q/I152L, as a genetically encodable biosensor of intracellular perchlorate concentration monitored by real-time fluorescence microscopy. Acute and chronic activity of perchlorate and hexavalent chromium contamination on the survival and development of Culex quinquefasciatus Say (Diptera: Culicidae).

Effects of water contamination with perchlorate and hexavalent chromium [Cr (VI)] on the mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus were assessed. The chronic (10-day) LC50s values for perchlorate and chromium were 74+/-8.0 mg/L and 0.41+/-0.15 mg/L, respectively. Relative Growth Index, a measure of growth and mortality rates in a population, was significantly reduced within 5 days for levels of perchlorate as low as 25 mg/L and for levels of chromium as low as 0.16 mg/L. Neither compound altered wing length of surviving adults. In combination, contaminants were synergistic, causing 14% more mortality th

Long-term environmental exposure to perchlorate through drinking water and thyroid function during pregnancy and the neonatal period.

We have conducted a longitudinal epidemiologic study among pregnant women from three cities in northern Chile: Taltal with 114 microg/L, Chañaral with 6 microg/L, and Antofagasta with 0.5 microg/L perchlorate in the public drinking water. We tested the hypothesis that long-term exposure to perchlorate at these levels may cause a situation analogous to iodine deficiency, thus causing increases in thyrotropin (TSH) and thyroglobulin (Tg) levels and decreased levels of free thyroxine (FT4), in either the mother during the early stages of gestation or the neonate at birth, or in the fetus cause gr

Pattern recognition analysis of 1H NMR spectra from perchloric acid extracts of human brain tumor biopsies.

Pattern recognition techniques (factor analysis and neural networks) were used to investigate and classify human brain tumors based on the 1H NMR spectra of chemically extracted biopsies (n = 118). After removing information from lactate (because of variable ischemia times), unsupervised learning suggested that the spectra separated naturally into two groups: meningiomas and other tumors. Principal component analysis reduced the dimensionality of the data. A back-propagation neural network using the first 30 principal components gave 85% correct classification of meningiomas and nonmeningiomas
