The structure of novel phosphorus-containing N-vinylazoles prepared by action of phosphorus pentachloride has been studied by multinuclear (1)H, (13)C, (15)N, (31)P and two-dimensional (2D) NMR spectroscopy. N-vinyl-substituted 1,2-diazoles and 1,2,3-triazoles have undergone phosphorylation, exclusively, on double bond. N-vinylazoles-based hexa-coordinated phosphorus compounds have been synthesized for the first time. (31)P NMR spectroscopy provides the most convenient and unambiguous method for the investigation of E-Z-isomeric structures of phosphorylated enamines.

The RNA of the blue-green alga Anacystis nidulans contains three ribosomal RNA species with molecular weights of 0.56x10(6), 0.9x10(6), and 1.1x10(6) if the RNA is extracted in the absence of Mg(2+). The 0.9x10(6)mol.wt. rRNA is extremely slowly labelled in (32)P-incorporation experiments. This rRNA may be a cleavage product of the 1.1x10(6)mol.wt. rRNA from the ribosomes of cells in certain physiological states (e.g. light-deficiency during growth). Ionic nutrition is essential for plant development. Many techniques have been developed to image and (or) measure ionic movement in plants. Nevertheless, most of them are destructive and limit the analysis. Here, we present the development of radioisotope imaging techniques that overcome such restrictions and allow for real-time imaging of ionic movement. We describe here experiments which demonstrate the selective phospho-transfer from a plausibly prebiotic condensed phosphorus (P) salt, pyrophosphite [H2P2O52-; PPi(III)], to the phosphate group of 5'-adenosine mono phosphate (5'-AMP). We show further that this P-transfer process is accelerated both by divalent metal ions (M2+) and by organic co-factors such as acetate (AcO-).
