The attraction to the Euphorbia genus, with its remarkable diversity in species, is due to its variety of chemical compositions. Euphorbia turcomanica is one of the species of the spurge family growing wildly in Iran. This research aims to investigate the presence of secondary metabolites, specially terpenoid compounds, in terms of structural determination. Samples of E. tucomanica were finely powdered and macerated with acetone/dichloromethane 2:1. Repeated column chromatography using silica gel, MPLC, and HPLC methods followed by the analysis of data obtained from spectroscopic means was car

Conradina canescens (Lamiaceae) is an endemic evergreen shrub native to Florida, Mississippi and Alabama, with no phytochemical or biological studies registered in the literature. Thus, a phytochemical study and a toxicity analysis of the chloroform extract obtained from the leaves of C. canescens were performed for the first time. In our preliminary screening, the crude extract and its fractions were subjected to cytotoxicity, antimicrobial and antileishmanial bioassays. The crude extract showed substantial cytotoxic, antimicrobial and antileishmanial activities. A total of six compounds, nam

Avian coccidiosis is a major parasitic disorder in chickens resulting from the intracellular apicomplexan protozoa Eimeria that target the intestinal tract leading to a devastating disease. Eimeria life cycle is complex and consists of intra- and extracellular stages inducing a potent inflammatory response that results in tissue damage associated with oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation, diarrheal hemorrhage, poor growth, increased susceptibility to other disease agents, and in severe cases, mortality. Various anticoccidial drugs and vaccines have been used to prevent and control this diso

In the course of our pharmacological screening of Polygonaceae species occurring in the Carpathian Basin the extracts prepared from the roots of Rumex thyrsiflorus showed promising antiproliferative, xanthine oxidase inhibitory and antibacterial activities. The present work deals with the isolation of compounds from the root of the plant. After multistep separation process, four compounds were obtained from the n-hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate soluble fractions of the methanol extract of the root. The structures of the isolated compounds were determined as 1-palmitoylglycerol, β-sitoster

Primary brain tumors are life-threatening diseases. Glioblastoma is the most aggressive type with a poor prognosis. Medulloblastoma is the most common pediatric brain tumor. While surgical treatments often result in recurrences owing to the complex nature of the tumor microenvironment, conventional treatments lower the quality of life of patients by causing serious side effects. Therefore, cutting-edge therapies are required to alleviate patients' burden. Phytochemicals such as curcumin, quercetin, berberine, and resveratrol have been shown as potential therapeutic agents by demonstrating anti…

Natural secondary metabolites, especially Essential oils (EOs), are compounds made by aromatic plants. These oils contain a variety of bioactive molecules with distinct effects on the body and are known for their strong, low toxicity and wide-ranging biological activities. These herbal concentrates have antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative, and anticancer effects, mainly due to their terpene and phenolic compounds. Research shows that volatile oils can target cancer cells and may boost the effectiveness of conventional chemotherapy. Using plant based compounds to ta

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a long-term autoimmune disease marked by inflammation of the synovial membrane, gradual joint damage and systemic issues. Contemporary treatment, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), corticosteroids, disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and biologics, usually offers symptomatic relief and suppresses immunity but is often limited by side effects and does not prevent long-term structural damage. On the other hand, phytochemicals have attracted interest as multi-target therapeutic agents that can influence key disease pathways such as N…

Neisseria meningitidis remains a serious global health threat due to rapid progression, high mortality and rising antibiotic resistance. FabF, a key enzyme in the bacterial fatty acid synthesis (FAS II) pathway, is a promising target for new antimicrobials. A 3D model of FabF was constructed and validated and 2,583 marine natural compounds were screened for drug-likeness and ADMET properties. Molecular docking of 241 selected compounds identified three candidates with stronger binding affinity than minocycline. Compounds CMNPD5392, CMNPD14910 and CMNPD14926 showed promising interactions, indic
