Thrombocytopenia, associated with microangiopathic disease, is one characteristic of severe preeclampsia. Thrombocytopenia and intravascular hemolysis usually resolve by postpartum days 4 to 5. An experience with using the apparatus plasmacytapheresis in 16 patients with nonspecific ulcer colitis has revealed its high effectiveness mainly in patients with mild and middle-severity forms of the disease. Convincing data were obtained on the improvement of clinical, biochemical and immunological processes. The method can be used in ambulatory conditions for supporting therapy of the patients.

The treatment of patients with immune nephropthies is discussed: rapidly progressive nephritis, lupus nephropathy, Wegener granulomatosis, Goodpasture syndrome, Schonlein-Henoch nephritis. For thymoma, multidisciplinary antitumor strategy is composed of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Meanwhile, ~20% to 25% of patients with thymoma have myasthenia gravis and plasmapheresis is recommended for thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis.We report a case that a 40-year-old woman with thymoma experiencing tumor relapse after surgery showed significant response to plasmapheresis.This is the first case of thymoma responded to plasmapheresis, which may guide the study of the etiology and pathogenesis of thymoma.

OBJECTIVE: To report a case of accidental amphotericin B overdose that was treated with plasmapheresis.
CASE SUMMARY: A 60-year-old woman with a history of kidney transplant 4 years prior to presentation for a congenital abnormality was admitted for a suspected systemic fungal infection. The patient inadvertently received intravenous amphotericin B deoxycholate 250 mg (4.3 mg/kg) over 2 hours instead of prescribed liposomal amphotericin B. The medication error was discovered 16 hours after administration. She had normal vital signs at that time and reported abdominal pain and general malaise.

We report an 8-year-old Caucasian boy who presented with steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome. Renal biopsy showed the cellular variant of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Within 1 year he received a series of therapies that have induced remission in other patients with this disease, all to no avail (conventional-dose cyclosporin A, methylprednisolone pulse therapy, high-dose cyclosporin A, and therapy with mycophenolate mofetil). He achieved remission after five sessions of plasma exchange. This case argues for aggressive therapy of resistant nephrotic syndrome in the native kidney.

BACKGROUND: Thyroid storm is a severe manifestation of thyrotoxicosis and can present with multiorgan failure. First line treatment of thyroid storm is directed towards decreasing thyroid hormone production and peripheral conversion of T4 to T3, and treating adrenergic symptoms.
