OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of percutaneous sclerotherapy for maxillofacial venous malformations.
STUDY DESIGN: Patients who had venous malformations involving the masticatory muscles and who underwent sclerotherapy were enrolled in this retrospective study.
RESULTS: Twenty-four patients (13 female, 11 male; mean age 21 years) were analyzed. Major clinical symptoms were swelling (100%) and intralesional pain (54%). Intramuscular lesions involved the masseter muscle only in 38% of cases, both the masseter and temporalis muscles in 33%, all masticatory muscles

Polidocanol foam sclerotherapy has gained increasing attention as a minimally invasive treatment for hemorrhoidal disease (HD). However, significant variability exists in its clinical application regarding patient selection, procedural techniques, and postoperative management. This study aimed to assess real-world practice patterns among international experts, summarize existing evidence through a systematic literature review, and develop evidence-based clinical practice recommendations. A systematic review was conducted in MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CENTRAL to identify studies evaluating polidocano

BACKGROUND: Perivenous tumescence with saline or a dilute lidocaine solution is used routinely for thermal ablation of refluxing superficial lower extremity veins to displace sensitive structures away from the thermal probe and provide better contact with the treated venous endothelium. In this study, we introduce an adjunctive technique of tumescence infiltration at the most efferent segment of refluxing saphenous veins treated with 1% polidocanol endovenous microfoam (PEM). We hypothesize that, by reducing the vein diameter, proximal tumescence (PT) prolongs apposition time of PEM to the end

BACKGROUND: Commercial premixed foam sclerosants such as Varithena, a polidocanol endovenous microfoam, have been developed and marketed as better alternatives to physician-compounded foams (PCFs). The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Varithena compared with PCFs in foam sclerotherapy for the treatment of truncal varicose veins.
METHODS: A systematic review was performed according to PRISMA and Meta-Analysis guidelines with a registered protocol (PROSPERO: CRD42024494805) using Medline and EMBASE databases from inception to June 17, 2025, by two reviewers. Randomized controll

BACKGROUND: Hemorrhoids are one of the most common and annoying benign diseases in the field of colorectal surgery. A Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy (MMH) is the most frequently applied surgical technique due to its clear efficacy and high success rate, but the reported postoperative complications remain a major problem. This study aimed to retrospectively evaluate the efficacy and safety of a MMH combined with rubber band ligation and polidocanol foam sclerotherapy (MMH + RBL + PFS) for the management of grade III/IV hemorrhoids.
METHODS: This was a single-center retrospective study. A tot

INTRODUCTION: Ultrasound-guided chemical ablation is a first-line treatment for benign cystic thyroid nodules. Although absolute ethanol is the most common sclerosing agent, it is associated with prolonged procedure time and potential complications. Polidocanol, a widely used sclerosing agent for varicose veins, liver, and kidney cysts, offers a potential alternative due to its favorable safety profile. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of polidocanol retention versus absolute ethanol lavage and identify factors predicting treatment success.
METHODS: This two-part investigat

BACKGROUND: Sclerotherapy with 3% polidocanol foam is becoming increasingly popular for the treatment of symptomatic I-II or III degree haemorrhoidal disease (HD). However, there are no studies that have reported a follow-up of more than 1 year. The purpose of this study was to analyse the long-term outcomes of sclerotherapy with 3% polidocanol foam in the treatment of II-degree HD.
METHODS: This was an open label, single-arm, phase 2b trial conducted in 10 tertiary referral centres for HD. A total of 183 patients with II-degree HD, aged between 18 and 75 years with symptomatic HD according t

De Quervain's disease has been described as an entrapment of the extensor pollicis brevis and abductor pollicis tendons in the first dorsal compartment of the wrist is a common cause of wrist and hand pain. Currently, intrasheath corticosteroid injections have been reported to be successful as well as surgical release of the first dorsal compartment. We report on three female recreational athletes (median age 57 years, pain VAS 7/10) where we found significant neovascularisation of the extensor retinaculum using Power-Doppler sonography, which was not evident among subjects without de Quervain

BACKGROUND: Polidocanol foam sclerotherapy (PFS) is an effective office-based treatment for symptomatic hemorrhoidal disease (HD), but real-world data from private practice and patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) at variable follow-up are scarce.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed all consecutive patients treated with PFS (3% polidocanol, Tessari method) in a single private proctology office (December 2021-May 2026). Indication was primarily symptom-driven rather than based on Goligher grade. Two data sources were combined: session-level chart review and a structured digital questionnaire (Go

BACKGROUND: Polidocanol foam (PF) sclerotherapy has shown promising results in low- and intermediate-grade hemorrhoidal disease (HD), but evidence in advanced stages remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate patient-reported outcomes following PF sclerotherapy in patients with Goligher grade IV HD who declined surgical treatment.
METHODS: This retrospective analysis included patients with Goligher grade IV HD that declined hemorrhoidectomy after appropriate counseling and underwent 3% PF sclerotherapy between June and October 2025. Outcomes were assessed using symptom-focused subsets deri

BACKGROUND: Foam generated by manual agitation of liquid sclerosant with air or gas is routinely utilized to treat refluxing veins. Although generally well tolerated, serious neurological events have been reported. The composition and properties of the foam, including bubble size and gaseous components, may contribute to the potential for microcirculatory obstruction and cerebral ischemia. We tested an ultra-low nitrogen polidocanol endovenous microfoam with controlled bubble size and density and hypothesized that patients at risk due to the presence of middle cerebral artery (MCA) bubble embo

Sclerotherapy continues to be the treatment of choice for varicose veins in the legs. However, isolated treatment using microfoam or lasers requires a high number of sessions to eliminate them. In 2013, we published results about the efficacy and safety 3 years after the combined treatment with microfoam injections and subsequent application of Nd:YAG laser. The aim of this paper is to clinically evaluate the treatment of varices in a control visit after 5 years, when polidocanol microfoam is used and is immediately irradiated in the tissue with 1064-nm Nd:YAG laser beam. The outcome persisten
