A multimodal machine learning model for predicting dementia conversion in Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) accounts for 60-70% of the population with dementia. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a diagnostic entity defined as an intermediate stage between subjective cognitive decline and dementia, and about 10-15% of people annually convert to AD. We aimed to investigate the most robust model and modality combination by combining multi-modality image features based on demographic characteristics in six machine learning models. A total of 196 subjects were enrolled from four hospitals and the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative dataset. During the four-year follow-up

Development and Validation of a Deep Learning Model for Prediction of Adult Physiological Deterioration.

BACKGROUND: Prediction-based strategies for physiologic deterioration offer the potential for earlier clinical interventions that improve patient outcomes. Current strategies are limited because they operate on inconsistent definitions of deterioration, attempt to dichotomize a dynamic and progressive phenomenon, and offer poor performance. OBJECTIVE: Can a deep learning deterioration prediction model (Deep Learning Enhanced Triage and Emergency Response for Inpatient Optimization [DETERIO]) based on a consensus definition of deterioration (the Adult Inpatient Decompensation Event [AIDE] crit

Prediction of Foam Rheology Models Parameters Utilizing Machine Learning Tools.

Rheological models are usually used to predict foamed fluid viscosity; however, obtaining the model constants under various conditions is challenging. Hence, this paper investigated the effect of different variables on foam rheology, such as shear rate, temperature, pressure, surfactant types, gas phase, and salinity, using a high-pressure high-temperature foam rheometer. Power-law, Bingham plastic, and Casson fluid models fit the experimental data well. Therefore, the data were fed to different machine learning techniques to evaluate the rheological model constants with different features. In

Machine learning classifies predictive kinematic features in a mouse model of neurodegeneration.

Motor deficits are observed in Alzheimer's disease (AD) prior to the appearance of cognitive symptoms. To investigate the role of amyloid proteins in gait disturbances, we characterized locomotion in APP-overexpressing transgenic J20 mice. We used three-dimensional motion capture to characterize quadrupedal locomotion on a treadmill in J20 and wild-type mice. Sixteen J20 mice and fifteen wild-type mice were studied at two ages (4- and 13-month). A random forest (RF) classification algorithm discriminated between the genotypes within each age group using a leave-one-out cross-validation. The ba

Prediction of calcium-binding sites by combining loop-modeling with machine learning.

BACKGROUND: Protein ligand-binding sites in the apo state exhibit structural flexibility. This flexibility often frustrates methods for structure-based recognition of these sites because it leads to the absence of electron density for these critical regions, particularly when they are in surface loops. Methods for recognizing functional sites in these missing loops would be useful for recovering additional functional information. RESULTS: We report a hybrid approach for recognizing calcium-binding sites in disordered regions. Our approach combines loop modeling with a machine learning method

Bioactivity-driven prediction of antibacterial synergy using machine learning models.

MOTIVATION: Combination therapies have demonstrated improved efficacy across diverse clinical settings. Predicting antibacterial drug synergy remains difficult due to strain variability and the limited scale of experimentally tested combinations. Existing machine-learning approaches for synergy prediction often rely on permissive cross-validation schemes that allow drug pairs to re-appear across folds, leading to inflated performance metrics. A rigorous evaluation framework and scalable feature representation are needed for robust generalization. RESULTS: We assembled a curated dataset of 3,1

Thermodynamic assessment of machine learning models for solid-state synthesis prediction.

Machine learning models have recently emerged to predict whether hypothetical solid-state materials can be synthesized. These models aim to circumvent direct first-principles modeling of solid-state phase transformations, instead learning from large databases of successfully synthesized materials. Here, we assess the alignment of several recently introduced synthesis prediction models with material and reaction thermodynamics, quantified by the energy with respect to the convex hull and a metric accounting for thermodynamic selectivity of enumerated synthesis reactions. A dataset of successful
