Polymeric functionally graded porous materials (pFGPMs) enable spatial control over transport and mechanical response in a continuous solid in which porosity is strategically placed rather than uniformly distributed. Early research on the production of pFGPMs has demonstrated that graded architectures can be induced as indirect outcomes of time-evolving temperature, pressure, or concentration fields. Because these gradients emerge from process-driven kinetics, reproducibility and spatiotemporal control remain limited. Fluid templating offers a more direct route: the transient structure of poly

3D printing is reshaping ophthalmic biomaterials, tissue models, implants, biosensors, and drug-delivery systems, but its clinical value depends on matching each printing strategy to ocular-specific requirements rather than on printing capability alone. This review classifies ophthalmic 3D printing into extrusion-based, inkjet-based, electric field-assisted, and light-assisted approaches, while clarifying the boundary between acellular material inks and cell-laden bioinks. We summarize how ink formulation, spatial resolution, optical transparency, mechanical stiffness, degradation, sterilizati

Three-dimensional (3D) printing has evolved the way patients with complex congenital heart disease are managed. The main applications of 3D printing in congenital heart surgery are (I) clinical decision making/surgical planning; (II) practice/simulation; (III) education. This paper explores these applications and how they can benefit clinicians involved in the care of patients with complex congenital heart disease. 3D printing is particularly useful in clinical decision making for patients with complex diseases, especially when there is ambiguity over whether a biventricular repair is possible

4D printing technology enables the fabrication of constructs capable of shape transformation when exposed to external stimuli. Epoxy-based shape memory polymers (SMPs) have shown great potential for various 4D printing applications. However, due to their thermocurable nature, the fabrication of 4D constructs using epoxy-based materials is often limited to a mold casting strategy, limiting design flexibility and often yielding flat structures. In this work, photocurable smart 4D inks are developed by integrating polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PD) into epoxy-based materials. These inks undergo

Hydrogels that can change shape on the application of an electric field are receiving increasing attention due to their potential to fulfill a range of functions in biomedicine, including the controlled release of therapeutic agents or the creation of replacements for contractile tissues. In this manuscript, a novel electroactive polymer was reported based on the copolymerisation of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpronane sulfonic acid and poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (AMPS-co-PEGDA), via free radical polymerization using UV light. It was shown that to enable curing and the production of a material t

INTRODUCTION: Complex facial trauma presents a challenge to the reconstructive surgeon, as the loss of facial buttresses makes accurate reduction of fractures more and more difficult. Accurate 3D-printed models and virtual surgical planning have become a mainstay in many other aspects of craniomaxillofacial surgery. However, turnaround times from industry produced models frequently preclude their use in the unplanned acute surgical setting.
PURPOSE: We seek to evaluate the use of in-house printed 3D models for facial trauma and the efficacy and safety of the procedures performed with the aid

BACKGROUND: Comminuted fractures of the jaws are complex injuries requiring special attention. In the past, treatment included closed reduction using maxillomandibular fixation. With advancements in technology and fixation systems, open reduction became a prevalent option. These fractures are difficult to reconstruct during the primary treatment phase, thus resulting in higher complication rates. The introduction of three-dimensional (3D) planning and printing brought about superior outcomes, yet these focus on secondary reconstruction due to the need for outsourcing planning and titanium prin

This paper purposed to prepare poly (lactic acid)/continuous cotton thread (PLA /CCT) filaments by using prepreg method, and investigated the properties of PLA/CCT filament and their 3D printed composites. Firstly, a prepreg device was home-made to immerse CCT with PLA melts. The effects of the dragging speed and tensioning equipment on the quality of PLA/CCT filament was investigated. The functions of the immersion temperature, diameter of CCT and alkali treatment of CCT to the tensile properties of PLA/CCT filament were inspected. The results showed that when the dragging speed was 12 r/min,

The use of 3-dimensional printing allows for preoperative planning in complex cardiac surgery. It provides a digital and physical model of patient-specific anatomy that may aid in decision making. Our case describes a 64-year-old patient with a late presentation of myocardial infarction complicated by the development of chronic postinfarction ventricular septal defect with interventricular pseudoaneurysm. We utilized a 3-dimensional-printed model of the patient's heart to identify the location of the defect preoperatively. From this case, we believe that 3-dimensional modeling may aid preopera

High-fidelity models are required for technical mastery of bronchoscopic procedures in the fields of anaesthesia, intensive care, surgery and respiratory medicine. Our group has created a three-dimensional (3D) airway model prototype to emulate physiological and pathological movement. Developed from the concepts of our previously described 3D printed paediatric trachea for airway management training, this model produces movements created by injection of air or saline through a side Luer Lock port. The anaesthesia and intensive care applications of the model could include bronchoscopic navigati

Large chest wall defects, as a result of wide local excision of chest wall pathology, require skeletal and soft-tissue reconstruction to restore the anatomical shape, structure, and respiratory function of the thorax. Reconstruction is challenging and requires the surgical reconstructive team to understand the anatomic and physiologic morbidity related to the defect and the choice of reconstructive techniques available to restore form and function. Rapidly emerging 3-dimensional (3D) printing technology allows the reconstructive surgical team to customize the therapeutic process of skeletal re

Background and Objectives: Developing a prosthetic heart valve that combines the advantageous hemodynamic properties of its biological counterpart with the longevity of mechanical prostheses has been a major challenge for heart valve development. Anatomically inspired artificial polymeric heart valves have the potential to combine these beneficial properties, and innovations in 3D printing have given us the opportunity to rapidly test silicone prototypes of new designs to further the understanding of biophysical properties of artificial heart valves. TRISKELION is a promising prototype that we

The overall success in launching discovered drugs is tightly restricted to the high rate of late-stage failures, which ultimately inhibits the distribution of medicines in markets. As a result, it is imperative that methods reliably predict the effectiveness and, more critically, the toxicity of medicine early in the drug development process before clinical trials be continuously innovated. We must stay up to date with the fast appearance of new infections and diseases by rapidly developing the requisite vaccinations and medicines. Modern in vitro models of disease may be used as an alternativ

Three-dimensional (3D) printing is a promising technology for solving a wide range of problems: regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, chemistry, etc. One of the potential applications of additive technologies is the production of highly porous structures with complex geometries, while printing is carried out using gel-like materials. However, the implementation of precise gel printing is a difficult task due to the high requirements for "ink". In this paper, we propose the use of gel-like materials based on sodium alginate as "ink" for the implementation of the developed technology of ext
