Comparison of two haemostasis techniques on procedural duration, postoperative pain and gastrointestinal function in pet rabbits undergoing ovariohysterectomy.

Ovariohysterectomy is a common surgical procedure in pet rabbits and one of its potential complications is postoperative gastrointestinal stasis, possibly exacerbated by prolonged surgery time. The objective of this prospective clinical study was to compare two techniques for surgical haemostasis with respect to procedural duration, postoperative pain, and return of gastrointestinal function, in 22 female rabbits undergoing ovariohysterectomy. Rabbits were assigned to one of two groups: conventional vessel ligation (CVL) and haemostasis with a vessel sealing device (VSD). The outcome variables

A comparison of the effect of procedural pain on cerebral oxygen saturation between late preterm and term infants.

OBJECTIVES: We prospectively compared cerebral oxygen saturation (CrSO2) and pain score changes during procedures in late preterm (LPT) versus term infants. METHODS: Near-infrared spectroscopy, pulse oximetry, Neonatal Infant Pain Scale (NIPS) and Premature Infant Pain Profile-Revised (PIPP-R) scores were assessed and CrSO2 data analyzed. RESULTS: Thirty infants in each group were evaluated. LPT infants displayed a milder significant drop in Minimum post-procedural CrSO2 and smaller Maximum-Minimum post-procedural CrSO2 disparity. CrSO2 minute changes between the groups were non-significant.

Educational case complexity (E‑CAT) and clinical outcomes in undergraduate endodontics: associations with procedural mishaps and postoperative pain.

INTRODUCTION: Case allocation in undergraduate dental education must balance student learning with patient safety. The Endodontic Complexity Assessment Tool (E-CAT) provides an objective framework for categorizing non-surgical endodontic cases by difficulty. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of E-CAT scores for procedural complications and postoperative pain (PP) in root canal treatments performed by undergraduate dental students. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was a prospective observational clinical cohort study. A total of 160 patients undergoing primary RCT on mandibular

Virtual reality hypnosis for needle-related procedural pain and fear management in children: a non-inferiority randomized trial.

UNLABELLED: Needle-related procedures can cause pain and fear in children and may lead to avoidance of future medical care. The aim of this study is to investigate whether virtual reality hypnosis (VRH) is non-inferior to medical hypnosis (MH) by a trained healthcare provider in reducing pain in children. This non-inferiority randomized trial was conducted at a teaching hospital in the Netherlands. Children aged 6 to 18 years were randomized to treatment with VRH or MH. The primary outcome was self-reported pain, using the Wong-Baker FACES Scale (WBFS) with the non-inferiority margin defined a

Education or sedation? A randomized clinical trial of impact on procedural pain and satisfaction during regional block placement, and the moderating effect of pain catastrophizing.

BACKGROUND: Preoperative peripheral nerve block placement can involve both procedural pain and psychological distress, which practitioners treat using both sedation and education/reassurance. The experience of pain may be potently modulated by baseline pain catastrophizing (presence of rumination, magnification, and helplessness). This randomized clinical trial assessed whether the treatment effect of sedation vs education/reassurance on procedural nerve block pain and satisfaction varied for patients with different baseline pain catastrophizing scores. METHODS: At baseline, patients complete

[Treatment of cancer-related pain-From pharmacotherapy to invasive procedures].

Depending on the stage of the tumor up to 80% of the patients suffer from cancer-related pain but treatment is often inadequate. Multiple causes can trigger pain and these can be due to the tumor itself, its secondary consequences but also treatment related. A differentiated assessment and individually tailored treatment of cancer-related pain not only improve the quality of life but also reduce the risk of pain chronification. A differentiation between nociceptive pain and pain caused by hypersensitivity is a mandatory requirement for adequate pharmacotherapy. There is a risk of inadequate pa

Multimodal locoregional procedures for cancer pain management: a literature review.

Pain is the most common and fearsome symptom in cancer patients, particularly in the advanced stage of disease. In cancer pain management, the first option is represented by analgesic drugs, whereas surgery is rarely used. Prior to considering surgical intervention, less invasive locoregional procedures are available from the wide pain management arsenal. In this review article, comprehensive information about the most commonly used locoregional options available for treating cancer pain focusing on interventional radiology (neurolysis, augmentation techniques, and embolization) and interventi

Impact of Lavender on Pain and Anxiety Levels Associated With Spine Procedures.

Background: To reduce pain and anxiety associated with interventional pain procedures, sedation is often used, with benzodiazepines, opioids, and propofol the most commonly used classes of drugs for sedation. However, patient coherence and ability to communicate procedural pain and abnormal sensations help prevent adverse outcomes. Therefore, discovering alternative therapies to mitigate the anxiety and pain associated with these procedures and to minimize risk is important. The aim of our study was to investigate whether lavender has an effect on pain and anxiety associated with lumbar epidur

Development of amitriptyline buccoadhesive tablets for management of pain in dental procedures.

Administration of lidocaine and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as a routine procedure for relief of dental pains by and large is restricted due to some side effects. Amitriptyline (AM) has long been known to exert analgesic activity as a result of blocking the Na⁺ channels. The objective of the present investigation was to prepare suitable buccoadhesive tablets using cellulose derivatives in order to obtain new formulations containing AM to provide local analgesic action. The tablets were evaluated in terms of physical characteristics, mucoadhesion performance, drug release, and
