Effective connectivity in cortical and subcortical visual fear processing networks during fearful face viewing in body dysmorphic disorder.

Individuals with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) demonstrate emotional processing biases; however, it is unclear whether differences are related to visual fear procesing network dysfunction. Understanding neural connectivity patterns during visual processing of threatening stimuli could provide insights into mechanisms that maintain BDD symptoms. Participants with BDD (n = 32) and healthy controls (n = 37) completed a fearful face processing task during fMRI. Using dynamic causal modeling, we compared effective connectivity between groups in connections among regions implicated in fearful face

PolyQ-expanded ataxin-2 aggregation impairs cellular processing-body homeostasis via sequestering the RNA helicase DDX6.

Ataxin-2 (Atx2) is a polyglutamine (polyQ) tract-containing RNA-binding protein, while its polyQ expansion may cause protein aggregation that is implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases such as spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 (SCA2). However, the molecular mechanism underlying how Atx2 aggregation contributes to the proteinopathies remains elusive. Here, we investigated the influence of Atx2 aggregation on the assembly and functionality of cellular processing bodies (P-bodies) by using biochemical and fluorescence imaging approaches. We have revealed that polyQ-expanded (PQE)

Twisted Intramolecular Charge Transfer-Based Viscosity-Responsive Probe Reveals Lysosomal Degradation Process of Endocytosed Foreign Bodies.

The optimization of nanomedicines requires a thorough understanding of nanocarrier attrition during lysosome-mediated biological processes. Real-time monitoring of endocytosis provides valuable insights into the lysosomal effects on nanocarriers and the release of nanodrugs. We report the development of a coresponsive probe that detects changes in the spatial viscosity of the intracellular domain caused by lysosomal degradation of foreign bodies. The probe, based on a benzofuro-[2,3-d]-pyrimidine structure, exhibits torsional intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) and responds to ambient viscos

The Effect of Rider:Horse Bodyweight Ratio on the Superficial Body Temperature of Horse's Thoracolumbar Region Evaluated by Advanced Thermal Image Processing.

Appropriate matching of rider-horse sizes is becoming an increasingly important issue of riding horses' care, as the human population becomes heavier. Recently, infrared thermography (IRT) was considered to be effective in differing the effect of 10.6% and 21.3% of the rider:horse bodyweight ratio, but not 10.1% and 15.3%. As IRT images contain many pixels reflecting the complexity of the body's surface, the pixel relations were assessed by image texture analysis using histogram statistics (HS), gray-level run-length matrix (GLRLM), and gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) approaches. New Perspectives on Emotional Processing in People with Symptomatic Huntington's Disease: Impaired Emotion Regulation and Recognition of Emotional Body Language†.

OBJECTIVE: Emotion regulation and emotional body language (EBL) recognition represent two fundamental components of emotional processing that have recently seen a considerable surge in research interest, in part due to the role they play in optimizing mental health. This appears to be particularly true for clinical conditions that can profoundly affect emotional functioning. Among these is Huntington's disease (HD), a neurodegenerative disorder that is associated with several psychological difficulties and cognitive impairments, including well-established deficits in facial emotion recognition

Different strains of H. nana from man, Norway and white rats were studied in regards to their adaptability. Strains obtained from spontaneously infected white mice and those passaged for several years on white mice served as control. In the course of successive passages the infectivity of these strains, developmental rates of tissue larvae, localization of cystocercoids in the small intestine and mesenteric lymph glands were compared. The strains were found to possess different adaptability to white mice. The strain from white rats had the highest rate of adaptation, the strains from Norway ra

Toward dimensional body consciousness impairments in post-traumatic stress disorder and its dissociative subtype: A predictive processing approach.

Current models of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) predominantly focus on emotional dysregulation, avoidance behaviors, and intrusive symptoms, with limited attention to disturbances in bodily self-consciousness. These frameworks do not fully account for how trauma may disrupt the integration of interoceptive and exteroceptive signals underlying the sense of embodied self. Building on recent advances in computational psychiatry, this review introduces a novel theoretical framework that differentiates between dissociative and non-dissociative forms of PTSD using the predictive processing p

Evaluation of dynamic developmental processes and the molecular basis of the high body fat percentage of different proglottid types of Moniezia expansa.

BACKGROUND: Moniezia expansa (Cyclophyllidea: Anoplocephalidae) is a large species of tapeworm that occurs in sheep and cattle and inhabits the small intestine, causing diarrhea and weight declines, leading to stockbreeding losses. Interestingly, the body fat percentage of M. expansa, which lacks the ability to synthesize fatty acids, is as high as 78% (dry weight) and all of the proglottids of M. expansa exhibit a dynamic developmental process from top to bottom. The aim of this paper is to identify the molecular basis of this high body fat percentage, the dynamic expression of developmental

Visual processing of one's own body over the course of time: Evidence for the vigilance-avoidance theory in adolescents with anorexia nervosa?

OBJECTIVE: The vigilance-avoidance theory postulates a specific threat-related pattern of attention deployment, characterized by initial orientation towards fear-evoking stimuli and subsequent directing of attention away from them. The current eye-tracking study was the first to examine the applicability of the theory for patients with eating disorders, who perceive their own body as a highly aversive, threat-evoking stimulus. METHOD: N = 56 female adolescents with anorexia nervosa (AN) and n = 43 healthy controls (HC) aged 13-18 viewed own-body pictures while their eye movements were recorde

Screening of small molecules affecting mammalian P-body assembly uncovers links with diverse intracellular processes and organelle physiology.

Processing bodies (P-bodies) are cytoplasmatic mRNP granules containing non-translating mRNAs and proteins from the mRNA decay and silencing machineries. The mechanism of P-body assembly has been typically addressed by depleting P-body components. Here we apply a complementary approach and establish an automated cell-based assay platform to screen for molecules affecting P-body assembly. From a unique library of compounds derived from myxobacteria, 30 specifically inhibited P-body assembly. Gephyronic acid A (GA), a eukaryotic protein synthesis inhibitor, showed the strongest effect. GA also i

Selective processing of eating and body words in restricting-type anorexics, binge-eating-type anorexics, bulimics, and control subjects.

A French adaptation of the Stroop colour-naming task was used to investigate selective processing of information related to eating and the body in 92 female subjects: 18 with restricting-type anorexia nervosa (RAs), 25 with binge-eating-type anorexia (BAs), 20 with bulimia nervosa (BNs), and 29 controls (Cs). All participants were significantly slower in colour-naming words related to eating and the body. This suggests that eating and body Stroop effects were not diagnostic category effects. Eating Stroop effect was significantly stronger in eating disordered patients than in Cs, but very simi

Targeting Pro-Inflammatory Interleukin-1 Beta Signaling to Modulate Neuroinflammatory Processes Associated with Cognitive Decline in Dementia with Lewy Bodies.

Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is implicated as a molecular driver of cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), potentially through activation of pro-inflammatory pathways within the neuron that impair synaptic function. Because pro-inflammatory IL-1β signaling depends on p38α kinase, the oral brain-penetrant p38α inhibitor neflamapimod has the potential to reverse synaptic dysfunction and treat cognitive decline in these contexts. Neflamapimod has also shown positive effects in animal models and in clinical studies in AD and DLB. Herein we evaluated neflam

Comparative analysis of kVCT- and MVCT-guided helical tomotherapy for total body irradiation: evaluation of process times and residual setup errors.

Helical tomotherapy-based total body irradiation (TBI) traditionally employs megavoltage computed tomography (MVCT) for image-guided setup; however, its 390 mm field of view (FOV) and long acquisition times constrain workflow efficiency and whole-body alignment. This study evaluated whether a newly implemented whole-body fan-beam kilovoltage CT (kVCT; 500 mm FOV) can streamline this process. In a retrospective study involving 14 patients treated with a Radixact X9 system (September 2021-September 2023), we timed the patient setup, imaging, registration, re-setup, and beam delivery for each upp

Effect of autoclaving process on trueness and qualitative marginal fit of intraoral scan body manufactured from two materials: An in vitro study.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: It is not clear the effect of multiple autoclaving processes on the accuracy of scan bodies. Autoclaving dental disposables enables reuse, reducing the environmental impact of raw materials and waste. PURPOSE: This in vitro laboratory study evaluated the effect of the autoclaving process on the intraoral scan body (SB) manufactured from different materials (Titanium and PEEK), positioned at the implant and abutment levels. METHODS: Two models, each with 10 implants, were created to evaluate scan body trueness made of two materials (Titanium and PEEK), and implant ju

Novel anti-cancer effect of 2-arachidonoylglycerol via processing body formation in HCA-7 human colon cancer cells.

The endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) has been reported to exhibit anticancer effects, including against colorectal cancer (CRC); however, the detailed mechanisms have not been clarified. Herein, we demonstrated that 2-AG suppressed cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression induced by prostaglandin E2 in human colon cancer HCA-7 cells. The suppression of COX-2 expression by 2-AG was through the acceleration of processing body (P-body) formation followed by COX-2 mRNA degradation. These effects were restored by TAK-715, a specific inhibitor of p38 MAPK. Therefore, the effect of 2-AG on CO

Novel spatiotemporal processing tools for body-surface potential map signals for the prediction of catheter ablation outcome in persistent atrial fibrillation.

Background: Signal processing tools are required to efficiently analyze data collected in body-surface-potential map (BSPM) recordings. A limited number of such tools exist for studying persistent atrial fibrillation (persAF). We propose two novel, spatiotemporal indices for processing BSPM data and test their clinical applicability through a comparison with the recently proposed non-dipolar component index (NDI) for prediction of single-procedure catheter ablation (CA) success rate in persAF patients. Methods: BSPM recordings were obtained with a 252-lead vest in 13 persAF patients (8 men, 63

Processing of food, body and emotional stimuli in anorexia nervosa: a systematic review and meta-analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging studies.

The characteristics of the cognitive processing of food, body and emotional information in patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) are debatable. We reviewed functional magnetic resonance imaging studies to assess whether there were consistent neural basis and networks in the studies to date. Searching PubMed, Ovid, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library and Google Scholar between January 1980 and May 2012, we identified 17 relevant studies. Activation likelihood estimation was used to perform a quantitative meta-analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging studies. For both food stimuli and bo

Acid β-glucosidase mutants linked to Gaucher disease, Parkinson disease, and Lewy body dementia alter α-synuclein processing.

OBJECTIVE: Heterozygous mutations in the GBA1 gene elevate the risk of Parkinson disease and dementia with Lewy bodies; both disorders are characterized by misprocessing of α-synuclein (SNCA). A loss in lysosomal acid-β-glucosidase enzyme (GCase) activity due to biallelic GBA1 mutations underlies Gaucher disease. We explored mechanisms for the gene's association with increased synucleinopathy risk. METHODS: We analyzed the effects of wild-type (WT) and several GBA mutants on SNCA in cellular and in vivo models using biochemical and immunohistochemical protocols. RESULTS: We observed that ove
