Long-term evaluation of pulpotomy in primary molars using mineral trioxide aggregate or formocresol.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to assess the effect of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) as pulp dressing material following pulpotomy in primary molars with carious pulp exposure and compare them to those of formocresol (FC). METHODS: Of 33 children, primary molars treated via a conventional pulpotomy technique were randomly assigned to the MTA group (33 teeth) or FC group (29 teeth). Clinical and radiographic follow-up ranged between 4 and 74 months. The mean follow-up time was 38 months, with no difference between the groups. Twenty-nine teeth were followed until uneventful sheddi

Chitosan pulpotomy medicaments versus conventional agents in primary teeth: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Vital pulpotomy is routinely performed to maintain radicular pulp vitality in carious primary molars, yet the long‑standing use of formocresol persists despite concerns about potential cytotoxic, mutagenic, and systemic effects. Chitosan, a naturally derived polysaccharide with antibacterial, hemostatic, and regenerative properties, has been proposed as a more biocompatible pulpotomy medicament. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the radiographic and clinical results of conventional and chitosan-based pulpotomy medicaments (formocresol, ferric sulfate) in primary molars, based exclusively on

Histological investigation of the effects of chitosan and 3 different pulpotomy agents on rat dental pulps.

BACKGROUND: Pulpotomy is a vital pulp therapy performed following the removal of infected or affected coronal pulp. However, there is no consensus on the most effective pulpotomy agent. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of formocresol, ferric sulfate, Ankaferd Blood Stopper (ABS), and chitosan in pulpotomy treatment. Previous studies have suggested that chitosan is a promising pulpotomy agent. Our findings align with these results, yet further research is needed. We hope that this study will provide valuable data for future research and support the potential of chitosa

Conservative Management of Pulpitis in a Mature Permanent Molar Using Partial Pulpotomy: A Case Report.

Vital pulp therapy (VPT) has emerged as a conservative alternative to conventional root canal therapy (RCT) for the management of teeth with pulp exposure. Advances in bioactive materials have expanded its indications, allowing its application in mature permanent teeth presenting with symptoms traditionally associated with irreversible pulpitis. A 36-year-old female presented with severe pain in the right mandibular first molar. A partial pulpotomy using a bioceramic material was performed, followed by composite restoration. The patient became asymptomatic shortly after treatment. At 11 months

Evaluation of Pulp Repair after BiodentineTM Full Pulpotomy in a Rat Molar Model of Pulpitis.

Dental pulp is a dynamic tissue able to heal after injury under moderate inflammatory conditions. Our study aimed to evaluate pulp repair under inflammatory conditions in rats. For this purpose, we developed a rat model of controlled pulpitis followed by pulpotomy with a tricalcium silicate-based cement. Fifty-four cavities were prepared on the occlusal face of the maxillary upper first molar of 27 eight-week-old male rats. E. coli lipopolysaccharides at 10 mg/mL or phosphate-buffered saline PBS was injected after pulp injury. Non-inflamed molars were used as controls. Levels of inflammation-r
