Ewing Sarcoma is a highly lethal undifferentiated tumor of bone. ES is a small round cell tumor with etiological and characteristic chromosomal translocations between TET/FET (TLS/FUS, EWSR1, and TAF15) and ETS (E26 transformation-specific) family genes. Generally, therapeutic approach for metastatic Ewing Sarcoma includes both local (surgery and radiotherapy) and systemic (chemotherapy) disease control with an overall cure rate of 20%. For extra-osseous tumors, the most common primary sites of disease are trunk, extremities, head and neck, retroperitoneum. Among other sites, Ewing Sarcoma/PNE

CIC-rearranged sarcoma, a rare, undifferentiated small round cell tumor characterized by CIC gene fusions, arises in deep soft tissues of extremities and trunk, whereas an intracranial origin is rare. We report an 11-year-old girl with dural CIC-rearranged sarcoma presenting with intracranial hemorrhage at both initial diagnosis and recurrence. She presented with a sudden-onset headache and motor aphasia. Computed tomography revealed a left frontal convexity lesion with extensive acute subdural hematoma. Due to rapidly deteriorating consciousness, emergent hematoma evacuation and tumor resecti

OBJECTIVES: Ewing sarcoma is a high grade round cell sarcoma that exhibits considerable histomorphological overlap with other round cell tumors, especially neuroendocrine neoplasms. In the present study, we compared the immunohistochemical expression of Nkx2.2 in cases of Ewing's sarcoma, neuroendocrine neoplasms at different sites, and a small subset of other mesenchymal and nonmesenchymal tumors in order to assess its utility in their distinction.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This descriptive retrospective study lasted for 14 months and investigated 60 cases, with 17 cases of Ewing sarcoma, 34 ca

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Ewing family of tumors (EFT) encompass a group of small blue round cell tumors, including Ewing sarcoma (ES) and EWSR1-negative undifferentiated small round cell sarcoma. The distinction between the EFTs is essential from a clinical perspective due to prognostic and therapeutic differences and is substantiated by the advent of molecular testing in the modern era. In this study, we tried to characterize EFTs by using fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 47 ca

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Ewing's sarcoma, a highly malignant bone tumor, typically affects the pelvis and long bones of the lower extremities in children and young adults; primary involvement of the skull is rare. Primary Ewing's sarcoma arising from the skull is very rare. In most cases, this disease is fatal, although the prognosis of Ewing sarcoma improves with radiation and chemotherapy after surgery.
CASE PRESENTATION: This case is about 25-year-old woman who was referred to Omid Hospital in Urmia because of frequent headaches, where a tumor mass was found according to the results of

A series of soft tissue tumors, melanomas, carcinomas, and lymphomas were studied immunohistochemically for the presence of muscle actins (MA) with the monoclonal antibody HHF-35, and for the presence of desmin for comparison. In nonneoplastic tissues, MA immunoreactivity was present in skeletal and smooth muscle cells, in the pericytes of small vessels, and in the myoepithelial cells. Desmin immunoreactivity had a similar distribution, except that the pericytes of small vessels and myoepithelial cells were negative. All 17 rhabdomyosarcomas were positive for both MA and desmin. INTRODUCTION: Leukemia is the most common malignancy of childhood but myeloid sarcoma is a rare presentation of underlying leukemic disorder. Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare tumor composed of proliferation of myeloid precursors at extramedullary sites.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: We report an unusual case of myeloid sarcoma involving the temporal bone in a young male child who presented with a large mass involving the left temporal region. This lesion was the initial presentation which led to further diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia in our case. This case report brings awareness to the diverse ex

158 cases of the Cooperative Ewing's Sarcoma Trials (CESS 81/86), which have been documented at the Pediatric Tumor Registry, Kiel, were studied by conventional light microscopy and immunohistochemistry. There were 77 cases of typical Ewing's sarcoma with 70 cases being located in the skeleton and 7 in soft tissues. Of the 14 cases of atypical Ewing's sarcoma 7 cases each were localized in bone and in soft tissue, respectively. In contrast to typical Ewing's sarcoma, cells of atypical Ewing's sarcoma were larger and displayed more heterochromatin. Both, typical and atypical Ewing's sarcoma rea

Nasal fractures are a common complaint familiar to all otolaryngologists. Sinonasal primary Ewing's sarcomas are extremely rare. The case of a 9-year-old boy is presented whose nasal fracture and subsequent lateral nasal wall hematoma revealed an underlying Ewing's sarcoma. There are several unusual features in the history and clinical course of this patient. Following biopsies, immunohistochemistry proved essential in distinguishing a Ewing's sarcoma from other small cell tumours. It is important that a seemingly common condition can be the first presentation of a less common, more sinister p

BACKGROUND: Ewing sarcoma is a rare tumor that occurs commonly in the long bones of children or adolescents that can also arise in soft tissues including the extremities, retroperitoneum, chest wall, and rarely in the liver as primary sites. We report a case of Ewing sarcoma arising primarily in the liver and, to our knowledge, this is the fourth reported case of Ewing sarcoma occurring in the liver.

Ewing's sarcoma is a highly aggressive malignant small round blue cell tumour that typically affects the long bones and axial skeleton in children and adolescents. Sacral involvement is uncommon, often leading to diagnostic delays due to nonspecific symptoms. We report a case of a nine-year-old girl presenting with chronic back pain and weight loss, eventually found to have a large sacral mass with hepatic metastases. Imaging revealed a destructive presacral tumour with soft tissue extension, and histopathology confirmed Ewing's sarcoma with EWSR1 rearrangement. This case highlights the diagno

The differential diagnosis is difficult in cases of metastatic neuroblastoma, Ewing's sarcoma, lymphoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma, the common so-called small round cell tumors of childhood. The distinction between Ewing's sarcoma and neuroblastoma in bone with no soft tissue mass in the adolescent is especially difficult. Ewing's tumor is usually characterized by its content of glycogen, neuroblastoma by its absence. A case of glycogen-containing neuroblastoma initially misdiagnosed as Ewing's tumor is presented. Diagnostic implications, including the role of electron microscopy in diagnosis, are

A case of abdominal Burkitt's lymphoma diagnosed through aspiration cytology is described. This 9-year-old boy presented with abdominal pain and distention for three months accompanied by fever and night sweat during the last month. An abdominal sonography and CT scan showed hepatosplenomegaly and an intrahepatic mass with celiac lymph node enlargement, ascites, and pleural fluid. A peripheral blood smear showed a few blast cells. Aspiration of the abdominal mass revealed very cellular aspirates consisting of diffusely scattered small monotonous round cells. The cells had little cytoplasm, alo

Ewing sarcoma is a small round blue cell tumor typically characterized by an EWSR1 rearrangement and expression of CD99 and NKX2.2, without expression of hematopoietic markers such as CD45. CD43 is an alternative hematopoietic immunohistochemical marker often utilized in the workup of these tumors and its expression typically argues against Ewing sarcoma. We report a 10-year-old with history of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia presenting with an unusual malignant shoulder mass with variable CD43 positivity, but with an EWSR1::FLI1 fusion detected by RNA sequencing. Her challenging workup hi

Parotid gland tumours are very heterogeneous, being benign in 80% of cases, and generally arising from epithelial cells. Nevertheless, a small group of non-epithelial tumours representing just 5% of all salivary gland neoplasms has also been reported, the most common of these being haemangioma, especially in children. However, lymphomas, neuromas, neurofibromas, lipomas and sarcomas can also be found. Synovial cell sarcoma is a high grade histological variety of sarcoma and is generally located near large joints and bursae of the lower extremities, such as knee, tendon sheaths and bursal struc

Monoclonal antibodies to the glycoprotein product of the MIC2 gene strongly and reliably stain primitive neuroectodermal tumors and Ewing's sarcomas, and are negative in neuroblastomas and most rhabdomyosarcomas. Therefore, these antibodies are helpful in the diagnosis of small round cell tumors of childhood (SRCT). Lymphomas also are in the differential diagnosis of SRCT, but few have been studied with respect to MIC2 protein expression. In the present study we used the 12E7 antibody to assess MIC2 expression in 82 pediatric non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. Forty lymphoblastic, 22 small noncleaved, a

BACKGROUND: Extraosseous Ewing's sarcoma (EES) is a mesenchyme-derived small blue cell tumor, which is distinguished by its rarity, aggressiveness, dismal prognosis, and distinct pathogenesis. Occurring almost exclusively among children and young adults, EES can arise from a variety of organs and portends a rapid clinical deterioration and high likelihood of recurrence.
DISCUSSION: We present the first reported case of a primary pancreatic Ewing's sarcoma in a patient with concomitant portal vein thrombosis. The atypical presentation of this extraordinarily rare tumor underscores the imperati

A 22-year-old patient with primary leiomyosarcoma of the small bowel presented with symptoms including nausea and vomiting, a symptom complex similar to hyperemesis gravidarum in the pregnant female. She was found to have elevated levels of serum beta-HCG which were localized to the leiomyosarcoma cells utilizing an immunoperoxidase staining technique. Thus, this patient presents evidence that beta-HCG may be produced by sarcoma cells and, therefore, that beta-HCG may be used as a tumor marker in some sarcoma patients.
