Agenesis of the hepatic vena cava in a patient with scimitar syndrome.

With the use of sophisticated imaging modalities, congenital anomalies of the inferior vena cava and its tributaries, such as agenesis of the hepatic vena cava, are becoming more and more commonly encountered. Scimitar syndrome, also called venolobar syndrome and hypogenetic lung syndrome, is a rare pulmonary vascular anomaly of the right lung that can sometimes be associated with some cardiovascular anomalies. We present here a case with agenesis of the hepatic vena cava associated with scimitar syndrome.

A familial variant of the Scimitar syndrome with a meandering pulmonary vein.

We report a rare variant of the Scimitar syndrome, in which the right lower pulmonary vein takes a meandering course before finally connecting in normal fashion to the left atrium. The pulmonary parenchymal segment drained by the tortuous vein is supplied by a systemic collateral artery, which was coiled via a catheter. We also closed the intracardiac defects by surgery. The elder brother of the patient had classical Scimitar syndrome.

[Scimitar syndrome with pulmonary sequestration containing carcinoma: a case report].

We reported the manifestations, auxiliary examination, and treatment courses of a case of scimitar syndrome with pulmonary sequestration containing carcinoma. The clinical characteristics of scimitar syndrome with pulmonary sequestration, pulmonary sequestration containing carcinoma were summarized based on the data of this case and the related literatures before January 2022. Scimitar syndrome can coexist with ipsilateral pulmonary sequestration. Because sequestered lung tissue has a risk of malignant transformation, a cancer screening test is useful for early diagnosis and timely treatment.

Complete transcatheter correction of variant scimitar syndrome-a case report.

BACKGROUND: Scimitar syndrome (SS) comprises of an anomalously draining right pulmonary vein (APV), to the inferior vena cava (IVC), maldevelopment of the right pulmonary artery (RPA), and the right lung, with variable number of aorto-pulmonary collaterals (APC) to the right lung. It can cause pulmonary hypertension if left untreated. Surgical correction is the method of choice. We report a case of variant SS with dual drainage of the APV to the IVC and left atrium (LA) that was addressed with a transcatheter approach. CASE SUMMARY: A 13-year-old child was evaluated for dyspnoea. Chest x-ray

Clinics in diagnostic imaging (173). Scimitar syndrome with horseshoe lung.

A 56-year-old Chinese man presented with giddiness and vertigo. Subsequent chest radiography showed the classic scimitar sign of an abnormal pulmonary venous return. Further evaluation with non-contrast computed tomography substantiated the finding of a partial anomalous venous drainage pattern and identified an associated rare lung anomaly, horseshoe lung. The imaging findings of scimitar syndrome and its association with horseshoe lung are reviewed.

Modified In Situ Pericardial Rerouting Technique for Scimitar Syndrome Repair.

Scimitar syndrome repair represents a challenge due to the high incidence of postoperative pulmonary venous obstruction associated with classic surgical strategies. In situ pericardial rerouting technique has been considered a promising alternative approach due to its simplicity and excellent midterm results. Access to the left atrium can be difficult in young patients with severe dextrocardia and hypoplastic right lung. We describe a modification of the original rerouting technique in which the atrial septum is repositioned in order to create a wide opening in the lateral aspect of the left a

Scimitar syndrome: a complex form of anomalous pulmonary venous return.

Scimitar syndrome, or pulmonary venolobar syndrome, is a rare congenital anomaly, in which all the right pulmonary veins drain into the inferior vena cava. In this study, we review the diagnostic features, clinical management, and surgical strategy in the Scimitar syndrome and discuss the significance of new generation diagnostic imaging methods for this rare anomaly.

Infantile form of scimitar syndrome with contralateral pulmonary vein stenosis.

Infantile scimitar syndrome (SS) carries significant mortality. Consistent management guidelines have not been well established, and outcomes continue to be disappointing. We present our experience managing an SS patient with complex anatomy who developed stenosis of the pulmonary veins contralateral to the hypoplastic lung.

Inferior vena cava stenosis in scimitar syndrome: a case report.

The scimitar syndrome, first described by Chassinat in 1836, consists aessentially of an anomalous pulmonary vein draining whole or part of the right lung into the inferior vena cava. Associated anomalies are frequent, such as hypoplasia of the right lung, dextrocardia, malformations of the right pulmonary artery and bronchial tree, and abnormal arterial supply of the right lung (the so-called sequestration). This article describes a scimitar syndrome associated with stenosis of the inferior vena cava, whose initial diagnosis was made by two-dimensional echocardiographic Doppler color flow map

A Rare Variant of Hypogenetic Lung Syndrome Mimicking Scimitar Vein.

Hypogenetic lung syndrome, also known as scimitar syndrome, is a rare and well-known congenital condition that includes hypoplastic right pulmonary artery and lung, right displacement of the heart, anomalous systemic arterial supply to the lung, and a characteristically curved anomalous right pulmonary vein draining into the inferior vena cava. In exceptional cases, the anomalous pulmonary vein may drain into left atrium. We here report a case of a 17-year-old girl with a rare variant of hypogenetic lung syndrome diagnosed by means of multimodality imaging and treated with percutaneous occlusi

[Scimitar syndrome in an adult - partial anomalous pulmonary venosus connection].

Scimitar syndrome is a type of partial anomalous pulmonary venous connections, in which part or even the entire right lung is typically drained by right pulmonary veins that anomalously drain into the inferior vena cava. The affected lung is often hypoplastic. The severity of clinical signs and symptoms depend on the degree of a left-to-right shunt and the presence of pulmonary defects. We present a 60 year-old women who has been asymptomatic for a long time.

Late "adult form" scimitar syndrome presenting with "infant form" complications.

This case report describes an 85-year-old woman with complications resulting from scimitar syndrome, anomalous drainage of the right pulmonary veins into the inferior vena cava. In addition to being the oldest reported case of this congenital anomaly, this is the first report of pulmonary vascular complications from scimitar manifested in the adult. The magnitude of the vascular shunt and advanced nature of the disease precluded surgical or percutaneous intervention in this patient.

Scimitar syndrome; an unusual congenital abnormality occasionally seen in adults.

Scimitar syndrome a very rare and variable congenital disorder characterized by an anomalous connection of the pulmonary vein with the IVC. The syndrome is mostly seen in very early infancy, but was now recognized in a 46-year-old woman, who was referred to the outpatient clinic of the department of cardiology with complaints of dizziness. Contrast enhanced computer tomography (CT) showed dextroposition of the heart and a large right pulmonary vein joined the inferior vena cava (IVC) just above the level of the diaphragm. The typical features of the syndrome are discussed.

Scimitar syndrome: imaging by magnetic resonance angiography and Doppler echocardiography.

We report magnetic resonance angiographic demonstration of both an anomalous pulmonary venous drainage and an anomalous systemic arterial supply in a patient with scimitar syndrome. Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography provides an excellent non-invasive diagnostic tool for demonstrating this complex congenital lesion in detail. A two-dimensional and colour Doppler echocardiography was also performed to show the anomalous venous drainage and to analyse the anomalous flow velocity pattern.

[A "late" scimitar syndrome. Diagnostic contribution of cardiac computed tomography].

A 51-year-old female hospitalized with a non-specific colitis, presented a crescent-like shadow in the right lower lung accompanied by a reduced right lung volume on a routine chest x-ray. There was no family history of congenital heart disease. The initially performed, noninvasive, contrast enhanced cardiac CT (electron-beam tomography [EBT]) proved the suspected diagnosis of a partial, anomalous pulmonary, transdiaphragmatic vein drainage (APVD) in combination with a hypoplastic right lower lobe and dextrocardia. These findings are in accordance with scimitar syndrome. Regarding to the clini

Mid-term results of the Lugones procedure for scimitar syndrome repair.

OBJECTIVE: The study objective was to report the mid-term outcomes of the Lugones procedure (in situ pericardial rerouting technique) and its variants for scimitar syndrome repair. METHODS: We performed a multicenter retrospective descriptive study of patients undergoing scimitar syndrome repair with the Lugones procedure. Three variants were used: original, variant A with atrial septum repositioning, and variant B with an interatrial pericardial flap. Primary end points were survival, freedom from reoperation, and freedom from pulmonary venous obstruction. Follow-up was based on clinical ass

Long-Term Outcomes and Imaging Characteristics of Patients with Scimitar Syndrome.

Scimitar syndrome is a rare congenital cardiopulmonary anomaly with marked anatomical and clinical heterogeneity, and long-term outcome data remain limited. We reviewed our single-center experience over a 33-year period. Patients evaluated between 1992 and 2025 were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 104 patients were included, with female predominance (63, 60.6%). The median age at first presentation was 0.4 years (IQR 0.0-16.7; range 1 day-68 years) with 59 patients (56.7%) presenting during infancy. At last follow-up, the median age was 18.5 years (IQR 8.7-30.6; range 60 days-70 years), w
