Social network analysis of tail-biting interactions among growing-finishing pigs with intact tails housed in two group sizes.

Tail biting compromises the welfare and performance of pigs. Understanding the dynamics of this behavior is essential for developing management strategies to minimize outbreaks. We used social network analysis (SNA) to evaluate the effect of group size on tail-biting interactions among pigs and to examine differences in tail-biting network position between barrows and gilts and biters and non-biters. Pigs (n = 315, initial weight = 22.1 ± 3.76 kg) with intact tails of mixed sexes were housed in small (9 pigs/pen) or large (18 pigs/pen) pens on slatted floors for 14 wk until market weight (120.

Identifying Core and Bridge Nodes of Psychological Capital and Social-Emotional Competence Among Medical Students: A Network Analysis Study.

PURPOSE: Most existing studies adopt traditional regression models to examine either psychological capital or social‑emotional competence in isolation. Few integrate these two sets of multi‑dimensional positive psychological resources within a unified network framework, hindering the exploration of their complex patterns of covariation. This study therefore aimed to identify core and bridge nodes of psychological capital and social‑emotional competence among medical students using network analysis, so as to provide potential targets for positive‑psychological interventions. METHODS: A cross-s

Both family and peer relationships matter in late adolescence: a network analysis of loneliness and social connection in a UK cohort.

INTRODUCTION: Adolescents from low socioeconomic backgrounds report higher rates of loneliness than their peers from high socioeconomic backgrounds. Reasons for this vulnerability remain unclear. We investigated how peer bullying, family conflict, loneliness and social connection relate at different levels of socioeconomic marginalisation. METHODS: Using data from the UK Household Longitudinal Survey (N=2531), we captured loneliness and social connection at 16-24 years and bullying and family conflict at 10-15 years. Network analysis tested item-level relationships while controlling for other

The journey to overdose: Using spatial social network analysis as a novel framework to study geographic discordance in overdose deaths.

INTRODUCTION: Drug overdose deaths are often geographically discordant (the community in which the overdose death occurs is different from the community of residence). Thus, in many cases there is a journey to overdose. METHODS: We applied geospatial analysis to examine characteristics that define journeys to overdoses using Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a diverse and segregated metropolitan area in which 26.72 % of overdose deaths are geographically discordant, as a case study. First, we deployed spatial social network analysis to identify hubs (census tracts that are focal points of geographically

Simulating Interventions for Symptoms Linking Problematic Social Networking Sites Use to Online Aggressive Behavior Among Chinese College Students: A Gender-Differentiated Network Analysis.

Prior empirical evidence supports the close association between problematic social networking sites use (PSNS) and online aggressive behavior (OAB). However, few studies have examined the potential symptom connection between these two issues as part of a multidimensional mechanism. The current study aims to explore the underlying network structure between PSNS use and OAB and conduct a simulated intervention using the NodeIdentifyR algorithm (NIRA), taking gender into account to further inform the implementation of intervention measures. A total of 1325 participants completed questionnaires th

A longitudinal network analysis of social connection and professional quality of life among healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: Society depends on people willing to serve in high stress occupations, such as healthcare workers who served on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, these roles can take a toll on psychological health, fueling turnover and staff shortages. This toll can be mitigated with social connection. Yet, little is known about how the multifaceted constructs of psychological health and social connection influence one another over time. Understanding these dynamics is critical for identifying effective intervention targets in high-stress professions. METHODS: We conducted a

Framing Pro-Anorexia Discourse on YouTube in South Korea: Social Network and Exponential Random Graph Model Analysis of Video Communities.

BACKGROUND: YouTube, as a participatory platform, allows algorithmic curation and user engagement to shape health information flows. This dynamic amplifies and isolates harmful narratives, producing enclosed "refracted publics." Pro-anorexia (pro-ana) content exemplifies this, glamorizing extreme thinness as self-control and promoting disordered eating while distancing viewers from evidence-based health discourse. Despite concerns about public health consequences, few studies have examined how channel characteristics and framing strategies drive engagement and echo chamber formation. OBJECTIV

Differential Pathways from Child Maltreatment Types to Insecure Adult Attachment Styles via Psychological and Social Resources: A Bayesian Network Analysis.

Child maltreatment has been linked to insecure adult attachment. However, it is not yet clear how different child maltreatment types are associated with attachment-related anxiety and avoidance in adulthood; and whether resilience against these insecure attachment styles is dependent on risk-specific resources. Therefore, this study explored differential pathways from child maltreatment types to attachment-related anxiety and avoidance in adulthood and examined whether psychological resources (self-esteem) and social resources (perceived social support) show risk-specific effects.
