Uncertainty-Aware Multimodal Gait Representation Learning for Scoliosis Screening.

Early scoliosis screening enables timely intervention and may prevent disease progression. However, gait-based screening remains challenging: abnormalities are often subtle, labeled data are limited, and multimodal analysis must handle cross-modal discrepancy and missing modalities. To address these challenges, we propose Uncertainty-Aware Multimodal Gait Representation Learning (UMGRL), a cross-modal gait representation learning framework that transfers knowledge from large-scale gait data to scoliosis screening. To learn transferable representations robust to missing modalities, we develop a

Reliability-Aware Cross-Modal Learning Behavior Sensing for Student Cognitive Bias Recognition and Teaching-Oriented Psychological Risk Warning.

With the development of smart classrooms and digital learning platforms, multimodal learning behavior data provide a new sensing basis for understanding students' cognitive states and psychological risk warnings. However, existing educational data mining methods mainly focus on performance prediction, dropout warning, or surface-level emotion recognition, while continuous and interpretable modeling of deeper cognitive biases and related psychological risks remains insufficient. To address this issue, we propose MLBS-Net, a multimodal learning behavior sensing network for teaching feedback that

Effects of Transcranial Direct-Current Stimulation on Neurosurgical Skill Acquisition: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Recent changes in surgical training environments may have limited opportunities for trainees to gain proficiency in skill. Complex skills such as neurosurgery require extended periods of training. Methods to enhance surgical training are required to overcome duty-hour restrictions, to ensure the acquisition of skill proficiency. Transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) can enhance motor skill learning, but is untested in surgical procedural training. We aimed to determine the effects of tDCS on simulation-based neurosurgical skill acquisition. METHODS: Medical students were

Effects of online cognitive behavioral therapy on depression, negative automatic thoughts, and quality of life in Thai university students during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2021: a quasi-experimental study.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly affected university students' mental health, family socioeconomic conditions, and social relationships, contributing to increased depression. In Thailand, strict lockdowns and social distancing limited access to in-person psychotherapy. AIM: The aim of this quasi-experimental single-group study was to investigate the impact of online cognitive behavioral therapy (online CBT) on depressive symptoms, negative automatic thoughts, and quality of life in Thai university students with moderate to severe depression during the 2021 COVID-19 lockdown. Development and evaluation of a massive open online course (MOOC) to teach medical students the prudent use of antibiotics.

BACKGROUND: If antibiotics are used appropriately, the development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) can be curbed. Many medical students feel that they do not receive sufficient training in this respect during their undergraduate medical education. In recent years, digital learning formats are being successfully employed in student teaching. Our aim was to develop and evaluate a massive open online course (MOOC) on appropriate antibiotic therapy and the development of AMR. The intention was to provide the MOOC as an effective learning format in medical schools and to encourage others to devel

Age at First Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Diagnosis and Educational Outcomes.

IMPORTANCE: Early diagnosis of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is often recommended, but it is unknown whether age at diagnosis is associated with educational outcomes. OBJECTIVE: To estimate whether age at ADHD diagnosis is associated with school performance, completed degrees, educational enrollment, and school dropout. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This population-based cohort study used national registry data for individuals born in Finland between January 1, 1990, and December 31, 1999, followed up until age 20 years. Individuals were born without a diagnosis of int

Pushed or pulled? Girls and boys facing early school leaving risk in Italy.

Compared to girls, boys are more at risk of early school leaving. However, it is unclear whether gender differences are driven by push factors, which alienate students from the school system, or pull factors, which attract them out of it. This paper examines gender differences in early school leaving, assessing the role of previous scholastic performance, parental education, and differential employment opportunities. By analyzing two nationally representative datasets, we focus on Italy, a country with high rates of early school leaving and pronounced gender inequalities in the labor market. O

The impact of anxiety disorders on educational achievement.

Anxiety disorders typically have an age of onset in childhood and adolescence, resulting in significant disability in social and occupational functioning. Epidemiological evidence suggests that persons with psychiatric disorders and perhaps especially social phobia are at increased risk for premature withdrawal from school [Am. J. Psychiatry 157 (2000) 1606]. In order to further determine the impact of anxiety disorders on school functioning and/or premature withdrawal from school, 201 patients meeting DSM-IV criteria for a primary anxiety disorder completed a school leaving questionnaire as w

Head and neck mycetoma: the mycetoma research centre experience.

Mycetoma is a unique neglected tropical disease which is endemic in what is known as the "mycetoma belt". The disease has many devastating impacts on patients and communities in endemic area and is characterised by massive deformity, destruction and disability. Mycetoma is commonly seen in the foot and hand and less frequent in other parts of the body. Mycetoma of the head and neck is a rarity and is associated with high morbidity and even mortality if not treated early. In this communication we report on 49 patients with head and neck mycetoma followed up at the Mycetoma Research Centre in Kh

Knowledge of fertile windows and associated factors among female high school students in Warra Jarso district, Ethiopia using a mixed-methods approach.

Understanding the fertility period is crucial for delaying pregnancy. Many female students lack accurate knowledge, leading to unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortions, contributing to maternal death and school dropout. Most research focuses on adult women, overlooking the unique challenges faced by adolescents. This highlights the need for targeted studies on younger females. Therefore, this study aimed to assess knowledge of fertile windows and associated factors among female students of high schools in Warra Jarso District, North Shewa Zone, and Oromia, Ethiopia. Videogames for academic wellbeing: a biopsychosocial health psychology framework for university counseling and mental health promotion.

In recent years, videogames have attracted growing attention not only for their recreational value, but also for their potential to foster personal and social identity, enhance cognitive functioning, and promote psychological wellbeing. Consistent with a biopsychosocial perspective on health, this paper conceptualizes gaming as a psychological, behavioral, and social resource that can be purposefully integrated into health-promotion practice, and explores its use within care contexts, with a particular focus on university students. In 2025, Link Campus University in Rome launched a psychologic

Menstrual cups and cash transfer to reduce sexual and reproductive harm and school dropout in adolescent schoolgirls: study protocol of a cluster-randomised controlled trial in western Kenya.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent girls in sub-Saharan Africa are disproportionally vulnerable to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) harms. In western Kenya, where unprotected transactional sex is common, young females face higher rates of school dropout, often due to pregnancy, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV. Staying in school has shown to protect girls against early marriage, teen pregnancy, and HIV infection. This study evaluates the impact of menstrual cups and cash transfer interventions on a composite of deleterious outcomes (HIV, HSV-2, and school dropout) when given t
