The risks of occupational radiation exposure for orthopaedic surgeons has not been well documented. The use of fluoroscopy in orthopaedics has reduced morbidity and by reducing operative time and by reducing the invasiveness of procedures. We describe our six-year experience in establishing a colonoscopy service in a pediatric surgical center in Hong Kong. A total of 65 colonoscopies on 60 children (aged 1 to 16 years) were performed, with the pediatric surgeon being the collaborator in the first 27 examinations and the endoscopist in the subsequent 38 examinations. Except on two occasions when bowel preparation was inadequate, all examinations were successful. UNLABELLED: Work-related musculoskeletal (MSK) pain is frequent in surgeons, but factors associated with it are not well studied.
METHODS: Repeat surveys were sent to general and subspecialty surgeons in the evening of their operating room (OR) days in one month. Age, sex, BMI, weekly exercise, NASA Task Load Index (NASA-TLX: a composite measure of workload), and pain scores were collected. Operating room case length and approach were collected from a registry. All variables were analyzed for their independent association with mean pain score changes in 12 body regions (with 95% CI).

OBJECTIVE: To characterize the current state of mental health within the surgical workforce in the United States.
BACKGROUND: Mental illness and suicide is a growing concern in the medical community; however, the current state is largely unknown.
METHODS: Cross-sectional survey of the academic surgery community assessing mental health, medical error, and suicidal ideation. The odds of suicidal ideation adjusting for sex, prior mental health diagnosis, and validated scales screening for depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and alcohol use disorder were assessed.

Stump appendicitis is an acute inflammation of remnant appendix, a rare complication of incomplete appendectomy. It may present as acute abdomen with history of appendectomy, which may cause delay in diagnosis. Therefore, incomplete appendectomy should be considered as a differential diagnosis of acute abdomen in patients with medical history of appendectomy. The present case is one of stump appendicitis 6 months after appendectomy. Stump appendectomy was performed and the patient was discharged 7 days after the operation without any complication.
