The effect of synbiotics pomegranate juice on cardiovascular risk factors in PCOS patients: a randomized, triple-blinded, controlled trial.

PURPOSE: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common metabolic and endocrine disorders. Functional foods like pomegranate and probiotics are those that are considered to have beneficial effects on metabolic diseases beyond their basic nutritional value. So, we aimed to evaluate the effect of synbiotic pomegranate juice (SPJ) on cardiovascular risk factors on PCOS patients. METHODS: This was a randomized, triple-blinded, 8-week trial. Participants were randomly assigned to receive 300 mL/day of pomegranate juice (PJ), synbiotic beverage (SB), synbiotic pomegranate juice (SPJ),

Effects of Synbiotic Supplementation on Bone Turnover Markers in Kidney Transplant Recipients: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Bone disorders are common in kidney transplant (KT) recipients. This research explores the impact of synbiotic supplementation on markers related to bone turnover in these patients. In a randomized controlled trial, 46 KT recipients were allocated at random to either a synbiotic group or a placebo group. Those in the synbiotic group received two capsules daily for a duration of 12 weeks, while the placebo group was given an equivalent placebo. The study measured several bone resorption markers, including C-telopeptide and receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANKL), as well as

Anti-Inflammatory Potential of Levilactobacillus brevis LBH1070 and Its Synbiotic in a Murine Model of Experimental Arthritis.

Arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by progressive joint damage, in which oxidative stress and exacerbated immune responses play a critical role. Synbiotics, defined as a combination of probiotics and prebiotics, may enhance these beneficial effects; however, their efficacy depends on maintaining microbial viability throughout gastrointestinal transit. In this study, we evaluated the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of Levilactobacillus brevis LBH1070. Lacticaseibacillus paracasei ATCC 334 and phenylbutazone (PBZ) were used as probiotic and allopathic drug contro

A red lentils-based synbiotic cookie exerts neuroprotective effects in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease.

Gut microbiota preservation or rational manipulation is a key condition for healthy longevity and a promising strategy to prevent neurodegenerations exploiting the gut-brain axis, with a key role of prebiotics and probiotics. Whether their combination in a functional food can provide a synergistic effect to the host remains controversial. To fill this gap, we supplemented the diet of 3xTg-AD Alzheimer's disease mice with a red lentils (prebiotic)-based cookie enriched with neuroprotective probiotics and we performed behavioural, biochemical and molecular tests. Chronic consumption of this synb

The Effect of Synbiotic on Ovarian Function and Quality in Cisplatin-induced Premature Ovarian Failure Wistar Rats.

Infertility is a significant global challenge, affecting approximately 15% of couples. Premature Ovarian Failure (POF) is one of the primary causes of female infertility. Some new evidence suggests that gut microbiota influences ovarian function. This study investigated the therapeutic effects of probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics on POF. In the present experimental animal study, thirty Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups: (1) Control group, (2) POF group (cisplatin-induced model), (3) POF-Probiotic group (daily gavage of Saccharomyces boulardii at 1 × 10⁹ CFU), (4) POF-Preb

Effects of Synbiotic Lacticaseibacillus paracasei, Bifidobacterium breve, and Prebiotics on the Growth Stimulation of Beneficial Gut Microbiota.

The gut microbiota is a complex community of microorganisms that plays a vital role in maintaining overall health, and is comprised of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. The probiotic efficacy and safety of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei and Bifidobacterium breve for consumption were confirmed by in vitro experiments. The survival rate of the probiotics showed a significant decline in in vitro gut tract simulation; however, the survival rate was more than 50%. Also, the probiotics could adhere to Caco-2 cell lines by more than 90%, inhibit the pathogenic growths, deconjugate glycocholic acid and

Prophylactic Potential of Synbiotic (Lactobacillus casei and Inulin) in Malnourished Murine Giardiasis: an Immunological and Ultrastructural Study.

Giardiasis is a re-emerging infectious disease with outbreaks reported globally specially in children and malnourished individuals leading to malabsorption, growth retardation, and severe diarrhea. Thus, in the present study, prophylactic administration of synbiotic as the functional food was used to assess its antigiardial potential in malnourished murine giardiasis. Interestingly, prior administration of synbiotic (Lactobacillus casei + inulin) even to malnourished-Giardia-infected mice led to increased body mass, small intestine mass, lactobacilli counts, and reduced severity of giardiasis

A Synbiotic with Tumor Necrosis Factor-α Inhibitory Activity Ameliorates Experimental Jejunoileal Mucosal Injury.

Despite the recent development of biological modifiers for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), there continues to be considerable interest in fermented medicines because of its negligible adverse effects. We previously showed that the synbiotic Gut Working Tablet (GWT) alleviates experimental colitis. Here we show that GWT is capable of ameliorating jejunoileal mucosal injury, which is frequently seen with IBD. We created experimental jejunoileal mucositis in rats by injection of methotrexate (MTX) which increases intestinal permeability, a hallmark finding of IBD. Administering GWT to MTX-inje

SCFAs-Enriching Kiwifruit-Derived Synbiotic Reprograms Microbiota to Suppress XOD and Promote Urate Clearance.

Gut dysbiosis contributes to hyperuricemia (HUA), yet plant-based synbiotics that boost short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are underexplored. We developed a kiwifruit-derived synbiotic combining Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LP220 with kiwifruit powder and evaluated its effects in vitro and in an adenine and potassium oxonate mouse HUA model (8 weeks). In vitro, LP220 produced propionate 2.528 ± 0.369 μg/109 CFU/mL and butyrate 36.06 ± 2.353 μg/109 CFU/mL. In vivo, the synbiotic lowered serum uric acid by 62.27% versus untreated HUA (P < 0.01) and outperformed LP220 or kiwifruit alone, increasing
